Re: Starfield Wins Steam's 'Most Innovative Gameplay' Award

Chuffer

@Carck People seem to have taken my words to heart as an attack on Starfield. Its absolutely isn't. Heck I even enjoyed it, I played it through twice. I absolutely do think it winning this particular award is satirical though.

Starfield being a example of outstanding innovation is just daft. it's a decent game but its very by the numbers. I cant think of a single thing it does that something else hasn't done already but miles better. Likewise RDR2 wining labour of love is very funny as R* have done the absolute bare minimum with that game post launch...Deep Rock Galactic should have clearly won that, the devs have poured their souls into it over the years with patches and content.

I know you don't need to be shown the general distaste for those two awards but just look at the comments here, thousands are either in disbelief or just laughing their faces off https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/18wvrqk/and_the_winners_are/

What I shouldn't have mentioned in the same comment is my increasing distain for Xbox as a whole. Its made it seem like Starfield is the sole culprit but its many small things over time that has soured my love for the brand. I feel especially this year the brand has done nothing but punch its self in the face at every opportunity. Almost everything I see about Xbox in the news at the moment is something negative that Microsoft themselves or first parties have failed to deliver on. If starfield was the best offering Microsoft can muster then I'm certainly putting Xbox to the side for now. I'm getting back into PC again where there seems an almost infinite amount of new shiny things to play.

Anyway the games we all like are different. Any game I can get enjoyment out of is good in my book and that includes Starfield.

@shoeses I honestly don't think Starfield is trash, I liked it a lot. I did 2 playthroughs, it just is completely unoriginal. I'm not here to tell people which games are rubbish and which are great, each to their own. Some of my favourites people hate which is fine.

My main reason to comment on this article was how much I love the PC gamers and their ability to inject ridicule at things like awards. No one here in their right mind would say Starfield was innovative, fun for sure a good game but innovative...not way.

Red Dead 2 was particularly funny winning labour of love because much to everyone's chagrin, myself included, R* all but abandoned the game/franchise as it doesn't make the money of GTAV, they did the least amount of effort possible post launch. It's the gamers way of mocking the silliness of certain games up for certain award categories.

The way I see it any game that someone enjoys is a good game and everyone's opinion is valid. I just like to see people show some tom foolery at the seriousness of of awards especially as to which games are best

@shoeses you beat me to it. At this point I find it baffling that people cannot see how satirical the pc crowd have chosen to be with their votes. They know how to mock the industry 😂

I've been an Xbox fella the last couple of years but it's time to move on and return to my roots as pc guy . Microsoft have made such a mess with Xbox I decided to treat myself to a new pc for xmas.

Re: Forza Motorsport Update 3 Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Chuffer

@Titntin You absolutely aren't alone in that feeling. I love racing, it's probably my favourite genre and Motorsport is such a disappointment it's heartbreaking. I agree 7 is a far superior game even though it has it's own issues it's not even in the same league. I think the only thing Motorsport does better is its fully dynamic time of day.

Re: Reaction: Looking Back, Xbox Has Had Some Strange GOTY Omissions Over The Years

@Belkan I can't comment on how Spiderman is as I haven't played it and likely never will. Not because i think it's a bad game or anything but anything related to comic book stuff is a massive turn off for me, well that and not having a ps5 😂

Having seen the full list of games up for awards this year it's clear there are some really average games in there. Non inherently bad but a lot of just decent games that really aren't deserving of a flashy award.

I'm just glad my personal game of the year being Armoured Core 6 is up for best action.

Re: The Talos Principle 2 Continues To Get Rave Reviews Following Recent Xbox Launch

Also brought day one as I'm a big fan of the original. It's really flipping good, I'm about 50 percent in according to the stats and I've loved everything I've seen so far.

If you are contemplating picking up and you enjoy puzzle games you really can't go wrong.

Also don't be fooled by its cheaper price it's very well made and looks gorgeous as it uses UE5 with nanite and lumen global illumination 👍

Re: Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem Is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (July 25)

Chuffer

Loved SS4 on pc but this SeriesX port has abysmal controls.

The dead zones for aiming are ridiculous. Almost half the thumbstick does nothing and what's worse it has that awful + pattern style dead zone making smooth aiming impossible, it's like your stuck on a grid and diagonals feel terrible. There is no option to change the size of the dead zone at all 😞

UPDATE : Tried on PC using a controller still has the exact same awful deadzone, so it isnt a bad port just bad controller support :_(
It plays absolutely beautifully on mouse and keyboard. Heck it looks like a fun game and I'm looking forward to playing more, just wish it was on my couch on the big telly

@himynameishank Boltgun is really making me smile with glee as I gib everything in sight, it's chunky gritty feel is spot on.

I haven't played chasm yet, I was just watching a video for it as it happens. It looks right up my ally so I should pick it up.

You may have played these but just in case, I highly recommend Ion Fury and Nightmare Reaper if you love retro shooters.

Re: Two Additions Are Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (April 27)

@awp69 I did see the steam reviews after trying Xbox for a comparison, looks like a very rough launch.

Don't get me wrong I'm not hating on just xbox, although lately MS seem to be making it very hard to like it. I'm just at a complete loss as to whats going on with gaming these last couple of years.

I'm going to make myself sound old now by saying that i've been playing games for about 30 years now. In all that time, I don't remember any period where so many things have released unfinished or broken in some way as the last couple of years.

I've gone from thinking I hope so and so game has good gameplay to I hope it actually just runs properly.

Re: Dead Island 2 Quickly Reaches Massive Sales Milestone After Decade In Development

Chuffer

The game is super fun, I'm almost at the end now and it has been mostly fantastic with very few bugs.

One thing to mention to potential buyers which not one review mentions if you are annoyed by framerate issues. Initially the games performance is flawless. However game suffers from pretty bad stutters about half way through, in certain areas particularly once you get to Venice beach and onwards. It's the only tarnish on an otherwise excellent game. Hopefully a patch or two will remedy these later areas.

Re: FromSoftware's Armored Core 6 Reportedly Launching On Xbox This August

Chuffer

@UltimateOtaku91 @Kaloudz I Played Armored Core V a fair bit on the PS3 back in the day. I really liked it and I'm stoked a new game is coming to Xbox.

It wasnt open world at all, each mission is fairly linear to play. There were options to approach from slightly different paths on some of the bigger maps but ultimately you are funneled down a very direct path. The freedom you got though was you set your mech up that determins how you approach these missions. You have lots of options when it comes to play style in terms of fast attack very agile but weak mech vs super sluggish but massive damage weapons or anything in between. For me this is where I found most of the the joy while experimenting with the different designs.

I will say this though on PS3 the performance was AWEFUL! playing at around 20fps was common when the action heated up :-S

Cant wait to see the new one!

🥱 working on they say. Hear our complaints. Doing our all they can.

Sigh what on earth are the UI team even doing at this point. People have saying this for years. Just make it clean show us our games as focus and don't the whole freaking page one giant games pass advert 😮‍💨

Re: Xbox Making Big Adjustment To Popular Microsoft Rewards Punch Card

Chuffer

@YungCizzle24 It actually made me spend more than I ordinary would. I would put the money I got from rewards towards a discount on store items I wanted that I normally wouldn't buy unless I had a discount such as the one I get using my points.

In the end if the points aren't worth getting, I'll likely spend less in the store. They'll end up loosing money rather than saving it I think.

Re: Xbox Making Big Adjustment To Popular Microsoft Rewards Punch Card

Chuffer

@FatalBubbles It is real shame they are slowly making it worthless as it one of best things they do.

All the money I got from it got put straight back into Xbox as I used it for discounts on games. Ultimately I will spend less as those discounts won't tempt me add my own money for store items. Silly but I think a lot of people do the same so in the long run it will only cost them revenue not save it.

Re: Diablo 4 Could Be Shaping Up As Another 2023 GOTY Contender

Chuffer

It was great overall and with just a few issues. I only played one class to level 25 which was the max in the beta the but the build potential seems fantastic. Can't wait for the full release and trying all the classes.

It wasn't without issues however. Some dungeons had lots of dodgy collision with invisible areas blocking the player. Some missing assets here and there. Some pretty bad rubber banding at times. Some very strang monster spawns.

Not sure if the next couple of months will be enough time in the oven for the polish we've come to expect of blizzard. The core game seems very solid which is good news.

@jordan1992 LOL you're absolutely right! Having good tight controls that work in a game doesn't matter at all.

Tons of people are not happy including the Digital Foundry guys who people generally have good faith in honest accurate reporting...

and lots over at reddit...

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of 'Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty' On Xbox Game Pass?

Chuffer

@relaxplease I'm so glad you mentioned these sub areas, I finally figured out where to access them. I had never used the travel system before and saw the same thing on the progression bars. For anyone who hasnt found these yet, you can find them by accessing the battle flag and using fast travel then pressing down on the area to select different sub areas. I must have completely missed where it mentioned these were a thing :-S

I just tried one of them the sub areas and it looks like they are the are the same maps as before but with new enemy placements. Looks like the game just got a bunch more content for me to look at so thanks!

Lol also just had my first fight with Lu Bu, he handed me my butt. Looks like this one may take some retries.

Absolutely try Elden Ring it is far easier in my opinion than Wo Long. It was my GOTY of 2022 which says a lot considering I usually dont do well with Souls likes. In Elden Ring you have many more options to deal with tricky parts and you can often find a different way to make it through a fight. Also there is much bigger focus on wandering around finding new areas as aposed to Wo Longs more focused narrow style of gameplay.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of 'Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty' On Xbox Game Pass?

Chuffer

@relaxplease Oww I like the idea of a fatal strike lock, or at least the fatal strike available for a foe should take priority over a regular lock.

Haha that Zhang fight was full on the first few times. I'm gonna leave this spoiler free for those reading that havent got to him yet... but when he did a certain thing when I thought I'd got him beat my soul got crushed. I legit thought it was impossible after i saw that. It took me almost as many goes to get him as the first boss after that initial difficulty spike.

Huh sub battlefields, I dont know anything about those. Did i completely miss those or is it something that unlocks after a certain section? Im currently on the snowy battlement level just after the Zhang fight, I've only explored about half that area.

I feel the same about the souls like games, Im not a huge fan really I especially didnt like the Dark Souls games but some others really grab me. Elden Ring being the one that truly pulled me in, although it did take me about 200 hours to beat it with trying to fully explore everywhere :-S

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of 'Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty' On Xbox Game Pass?

Chuffer

@AlwaysPlaying Lol I'm gargling that soup down.

No spoilers but out of curiosity I googled the names of big bosses just too how far I've made it. Turns out pretty dang far in just a couple of days I've beat most of them. There are just three left to fight which means the game may be super short :-S or hopefully the list of names isnt complete.
