Re: Microsoft Ends Xbox 360 Production

Captain_Chao5

@KelticDevil "Let's not assume Microsoft will just copy what Sony's doing."
The track record is not great XB1 was rushed out before the Kinect games were (or should that be game was) ready, to keep up with Sony.
If Sony have a new, higher spec console coming, I'd bet a few quid that MS will have something to keep up. I don't see how they can not try to keep on par with their main rival. I really wish they would hold on and release something later just to stop the ridiculous (and very boring) debates about which one has the best this, that and the other. Yes frame rate argument, I'm looking at you!
I'd not realised Sony have VR that close to production. Now I'm really hoping MS don't rush their equivalent (whatever it will be) to once again keep up with Sony.

Re: Microsoft Ends Xbox 360 Production

Captain_Chao5

@stylon This is true. Maybe they'd have fitted a 1Tb drive too, which is the minimum it needed. I'm just a bit sore spending 400+ quid on a console that will be superceded within a few years. Given the way the price fell within months of release, I'll be waiting for the next upgrade.

Re: Microsoft Ends Xbox 360 Production

Captain_Chao5

@stylon Yeah. I (reluctantly) agree. Xbox One was on the back foot from the start and has been playing second fiddle in terms of power. It would be seriously bad for MS if Sony brought out an even more powerful console and they did nothing. I just hope it's a properly built system and not another short term project.
One thing is for sure. I'll not be getting one day one.

Re: Microsoft Ends Xbox 360 Production

Captain_Chao5

Ah the inevitable announcement. The 360 was the console that switched me from 'the other brand' so will always have a special meaning for me. My first console was an Elite. It did me proud for several years before I upgraded to a 'slim'..mainly because it had direct connection for Kinect instead of the extra cables. Still have the slim sat in the spare room, waiting patiently for me to fire up something and play.
It's a shame it's looking like Xb1 wont last anything like as long. <hmm>

Re: Latest Gears of War 4 Trailer Brings the Sadness

Captain_Chao5

Pre-ordered my copy before I read too much speculation about the campaign length. As long as they don't do a COD-style, 5 minute campaign with focus on MP, then it should be good (he says hopefully, whilst rubbing a rabbit foot, touching wood and other luck-bringing actions).

Re: Rumour: FCC Listing Hints at New Xbox One Model - Potentially Set for Stealth E3 Launch?

Captain_Chao5

As a Day One Xbox owner, I'll be pissed if there is a new, more powerful console already. I expect a £400+ console (launch price) to last more than 3 bloody years. Like Stylon, I ditched PC gaming due to constant upgrades to keep new games running. The backwards compatibility thing is all well and good, but if the console can handle better games, what do you think the dev's will be concentrating on?!!

Re: Sniper Elite 4 Heads to Xbox One in 2016

Captain_Chao5

@KelticDevil Yes - of sorts. V2 is okay but v3 is better (xbox one). If you can pick it up cheap, it's worth a play IMO. The kill-cam shots are fun but can get repetitive. There's only so many times shooting a bloke in the loblocks is funny. I've completed both campaigns and never felt the urge to go back to either - even to pick up the missing achievements.

Re: Is Microsoft Looking To Break The Console Cycle?

Captain_Chao5

I stopped PC gaming as it was a constant cycle of hardware upgrades to keep up with the games improved graphics, etc. Thinking about how good some 360 games still look (and how crap some XB1 games look), I'm wary of this regular hardware upgrade comment. Is it actually a necessity, or just making it easy for developers as they don't have to try so hard with limited resources? I can say now, I will not be upgrading my console every year.

Does combining PC and Xbox games mean the price will be aligned too? PC games are always cheaper than console games. I'd bet a £1 to a penny, the PC game prices will rise to match.

Re: Editor's Opinion: Give Me A Quantum Break

Captain_Chao5

I've not bothered to read the BS from whingers over this announcement. TBH I couldn't give a toss. The Xbox is basically a PC running a version of Windows 10. I could see games coming on PC and Xbox once Windows 10 came along and don't see why I should be worried. I'll probably get QB as it looks a good game (pending reviews). If it comes with a 'free' copy for the PC, I doubt I'll bother downloading it. Purely because my PC is old and it'd probably run like a three legged donkey and the fact that I like the simplicity of an xbox. Press on button, insert disc, play.
Worst case scenario, MS decides to drop Xbox and concentrate on PC games, but let's be honest, that ain't gonna happen. They may not have a monopoly over Sony, but they are still selling a truck load of consoles, games, accessories, etc.

Re: Next Assassin's Creed Confirmed for 2017 Release

Captain_Chao5

I'm a massive AC fan and thought Syndicate was the best so far. Whilst I'm disappointed I have to wait for the next installment, I am also glad as I hope it means they will produce a really good game not some half-cocked shite (yes I'm looking at you AC3!).

Re: Weirdness: Did This Kinect Sensor Just Find a Ghost?

Captain_Chao5

@stylon Never had much success with voice control. I had to repeat things so loudly my dogs thought they were in trouble. Even tried calibrating with the surround sound turned up loud (tip from the interwebs). I don't link sky through xbox as it means powering it on all the time the TV is on.

Re: February Games With Gold Deals a Hand Of Fate

Captain_Chao5

+1 for Gears 2 - best GOW in the series (IMO).
I picked it up a few years back now, as I wanted a new game but didn't know what. The box looked interesting and the reviews were good. Gears is now one of my 'must buy day one' games. I have completed the campaign mode on all of them (some are better than others... <ahem> Judgement) but GoW2 will always be my favourite.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighty Seven

Captain_Chao5

I've been neglecting my Xb1 lately. When I do get time, I have all intentions of playing Fallout 4, but I feel I need a good couple of hours each session. For this reason I've been chipping away at Lego Star Wars TCS. For the £2.34 I paid, it's an absolute steal. Plus it has the advantage of being able to play for 20-30 minutes and put down again.

(I've not even loaded up Tomb Raider)

Re: Rumor: Assassin's Creed Taking A Gap Year? 2016 Version Cancelled?

Captain_Chao5

I'm happy for Ubi to take a year out...providing the new game is a stonker! They really got back on the 'horse' with Syndicate after the mess that was Unity. Now I think of it, ACBF was good after a crappy AC3. They seem to go in cycles so maybe skipping a year will mean the 'what could be a crap' game is missed out.

It would be nice to see some DLC to keep Syndicate going for a bit longer, but I'm fine with not having a COD-style sausage machine churning out the same old stuff every year.

Re: Xbox Countdown Sale Kicks Off With 134 Discounts on Xbox One and Xbox 360 Titles

Captain_Chao5

When do the reductions start? Lego Batman 3 is showing as £10.56 for gold members but when I click on the store it's £16.50.

EDIT: 8+ hours, two 'chats' with Microsoft support and the price is still wrong. Their response - "the sale is on until the 29th Dec". That doesn't help me now when I've got the TV/console to myself

EDIT 2: The sales page has now been changed to make the price £16.50! Well MS - go F yourselves! I'm not buying at that price on principle now.

Re: Review: Oyen Digital Shadow Mini SSD for Xbox One

Captain_Chao5

@stylon Yep - you know which site I mean 500Gb was/is just silly. Even then my Sky box had 1Tb (now 2Tb is available and I think I saw a 4Tb box is on the cards). Definitely penny pinching by MS on that occasion. I'm surprised the 'Elite' console only has 1Tb two years after the XB1 release.
