@BAMozzy Yeah, I'm hearing you mate. I've got a nagging doubt starting in my mind now. It would fit the current gaming trend of focusing on MP. Such a shame as we're not all MP players. I'll be watching these threads with interest.
I'd not read this article properly so missed the DLC being (mainly) MP related. This is disappointing as it means it's likely to be a one-time play through for me. The campaign better be good or I'll be cancelling my pre-order
@KelticDevil "Let's not assume Microsoft will just copy what Sony's doing." The track record is not great XB1 was rushed out before the Kinect games were (or should that be game was) ready, to keep up with Sony. If Sony have a new, higher spec console coming, I'd bet a few quid that MS will have something to keep up. I don't see how they can not try to keep on par with their main rival. I really wish they would hold on and release something later just to stop the ridiculous (and very boring) debates about which one has the best this, that and the other. Yes frame rate argument, I'm looking at you! I'd not realised Sony have VR that close to production. Now I'm really hoping MS don't rush their equivalent (whatever it will be) to once again keep up with Sony.
@stylon This is true. Maybe they'd have fitted a 1Tb drive too, which is the minimum it needed. I'm just a bit sore spending 400+ quid on a console that will be superceded within a few years. Given the way the price fell within months of release, I'll be waiting for the next upgrade.
@stylon Yeah. I (reluctantly) agree. Xbox One was on the back foot from the start and has been playing second fiddle in terms of power. It would be seriously bad for MS if Sony brought out an even more powerful console and they did nothing. I just hope it's a properly built system and not another short term project.
One thing is for sure. I'll not be getting one day one.
Ah the inevitable announcement. The 360 was the console that switched me from 'the other brand' so will always have a special meaning for me. My first console was an Elite. It did me proud for several years before I upgraded to a 'slim'..mainly because it had direct connection for Kinect instead of the extra cables. Still have the slim sat in the spare room, waiting patiently for me to fire up something and play. It's a shame it's looking like Xb1 wont last anything like as long. <hmm>
Pre-ordered my copy before I read too much speculation about the campaign length. As long as they don't do a COD-style, 5 minute campaign with focus on MP, then it should be good (he says hopefully, whilst rubbing a rabbit foot, touching wood and other luck-bringing actions).
As a Day One Xbox owner, I'll be pissed if there is a new, more powerful console already. I expect a £400+ console (launch price) to last more than 3 bloody years. Like Stylon, I ditched PC gaming due to constant upgrades to keep new games running. The backwards compatibility thing is all well and good, but if the console can handle better games, what do you think the dev's will be concentrating on?!!
I played Sunset Overdrive during the free weekend. Wouldn't buy it but I'll take it for free as I have a couple of the achievements and the missing ones are dragging down my completion stats LOL
@KelticDevil Yes - of sorts. V2 is okay but v3 is better (xbox one). If you can pick it up cheap, it's worth a play IMO. The kill-cam shots are fun but can get repetitive. There's only so many times shooting a bloke in the loblocks is funny. I've completed both campaigns and never felt the urge to go back to either - even to pick up the missing achievements.
I stopped PC gaming as it was a constant cycle of hardware upgrades to keep up with the games improved graphics, etc. Thinking about how good some 360 games still look (and how crap some XB1 games look), I'm wary of this regular hardware upgrade comment. Is it actually a necessity, or just making it easy for developers as they don't have to try so hard with limited resources? I can say now, I will not be upgrading my console every year.
Does combining PC and Xbox games mean the price will be aligned too? PC games are always cheaper than console games. I'd bet a £1 to a penny, the PC game prices will rise to match.
I've not bothered to read the BS from whingers over this announcement. TBH I couldn't give a toss. The Xbox is basically a PC running a version of Windows 10. I could see games coming on PC and Xbox once Windows 10 came along and don't see why I should be worried. I'll probably get QB as it looks a good game (pending reviews). If it comes with a 'free' copy for the PC, I doubt I'll bother downloading it. Purely because my PC is old and it'd probably run like a three legged donkey and the fact that I like the simplicity of an xbox. Press on button, insert disc, play.
Worst case scenario, MS decides to drop Xbox and concentrate on PC games, but let's be honest, that ain't gonna happen. They may not have a monopoly over Sony, but they are still selling a truck load of consoles, games, accessories, etc.
I'm a massive AC fan and thought Syndicate was the best so far. Whilst I'm disappointed I have to wait for the next installment, I am also glad as I hope it means they will produce a really good game not some half-cocked shite (yes I'm looking at you AC3!).
@DesignateTurian Cheers Des! I look forward to your thoughts on Quantum Break. I've also got RotTR in my 'to play' pile, but can't seem to get a decent chunk of time to get on the Xbox.
I'll buy Gears 4 just because it's Gears! Quantum Break has a lot of potential, but I'm waiting to see a demo/review on Px or at least comments from fellow gamers.
@stylon Never had much success with voice control. I had to repeat things so loudly my dogs thought they were in trouble. Even tried calibrating with the surround sound turned up loud (tip from the interwebs). I don't link sky through xbox as it means powering it on all the time the TV is on.
Meh. Very sad to see a Kinect showing what it can do when as you say, it's a Dodo as far as gaming is concerned. I'm very close to disconnecting mine as it's nothing more than an ornament by the TV.
+1 for Gears 2 - best GOW in the series (IMO). I picked it up a few years back now, as I wanted a new game but didn't know what. The box looked interesting and the reviews were good. Gears is now one of my 'must buy day one' games. I have completed the campaign mode on all of them (some are better than others... <ahem> Judgement) but GoW2 will always be my favourite.
I've been neglecting my Xb1 lately. When I do get time, I have all intentions of playing Fallout 4, but I feel I need a good couple of hours each session. For this reason I've been chipping away at Lego Star Wars TCS. For the £2.34 I paid, it's an absolute steal. Plus it has the advantage of being able to play for 20-30 minutes and put down again.
I'm happy for Ubi to take a year out...providing the new game is a stonker! They really got back on the 'horse' with Syndicate after the mess that was Unity. Now I think of it, ACBF was good after a crappy AC3. They seem to go in cycles so maybe skipping a year will mean the 'what could be a crap' game is missed out.
It would be nice to see some DLC to keep Syndicate going for a bit longer, but I'm fine with not having a COD-style sausage machine churning out the same old stuff every year.
When do the reductions start? Lego Batman 3 is showing as £10.56 for gold members but when I click on the store it's £16.50.
EDIT: 8+ hours, two 'chats' with Microsoft support and the price is still wrong. Their response - "the sale is on until the 29th Dec". That doesn't help me now when I've got the TV/console to myself
EDIT 2: The sales page has now been changed to make the price £16.50! Well MS - go F yourselves! I'm not buying at that price on principle now.
I'm hoping to get some progress on the 'Jack the Ripper' DLC on AC Syndicate, but my Wife is also playing it, so we have to keep avoiding 'spoilers' from each other.
Sky Go allows two devices to view live TV, whereas Sky Go Plus allows 4 devices and you can also download and watch later. Still not paying £5 extra on top of the stupid amount I already pay though.
@stylon Yep - you know which site I mean 500Gb was/is just silly. Even then my Sky box had 1Tb (now 2Tb is available and I think I saw a 4Tb box is on the cards). Definitely penny pinching by MS on that occasion. I'm surprised the 'Elite' console only has 1Tb two years after the XB1 release.
I have to LOL every time I see articles about external HDD for XB1. I remember a thread (on another forum before my Purexbox days) where people argued with me that the internal 500Gb was "plenty" of space. HAHAHAHA

No thanks. I'll stick with my std edition pre-order.

Single player campaign would probably sway me to be interested.
Loving the knights of Ni reference! Come back and finish me!

Re: Quantum Break Becomes Most Successful New Microsoft IP on Xbox One
"Quantum Break overtakes the likes of Ryse: Son of Rome, Sunset Overdrive"...hardly serious competition
I'm glad it's doing well though as I would like to pick this up soon. Still have a backlog to play though and a holiday to pay for.
(...and Gears 4 will smash it off the top spot)
Re: Gears of War 4 Gets Release Date as Fenix Rises in October
/Cole Train/ WOOOOOOOOOO! /end Cole Train/
Re: Review: Quantum Break (Xbox One)
Hmm...Sounds a bit short for a campaign that is pretty much a 'play once' title.

Re: Quantum Break Cinematic Gameplay Trailer Channels Nirvana
Game looks great. Don't like the awful remake of a classic song. Still resisting ordering (barely) as I've got unfinished games to play.
Re: Two New Official Xbox One Controller Colours Due to Launch
Hmm...I wonder if these will suffer the same fault - stick drifting upwards - that MS chose to ignore on the forums

Gears of War 4 - provided they stick a decent campaign in there. I'm buggered if I'm buying it for MP only.

My top 3 would be:
1. AC Syndicate
2. (Joint) Batman Arkham Knight and Witcher 3
