Re: BioWare Reveals Plans For Anthem 2.0's Overhauled Loot System

tatsumi

@Jslade They can save it.
Maybe because I am a lead software engineer who myself have saved projects after they have been mismanaged terribly, I have a different perspective on things.

The biggest issue Anthem had was no direction. But with Christian Dailey they finally seem to be getting a clear direction.
Anthem has great gameplay mechanics. And it has a unique selling point with its flight system and combat dynamics.
Once they get the direction right and figure out an efficient way to structure the world so it allows for less loading screens and more flexibility, they can save it without a problem.
But it will take time. From my point of view it shouldn’t take them longer than 1 more year to get it done what they want. Unless COVID hit them harder than anticipated.
And we may see a PTS by the end of the year or early next year to be able to give them feedback.
Worst case would be that we get a PTS and notice they have to get back to the drawing board. Only then you could slowly think about if it’s worth it to continue, because they may simply not have the right idea of how to solve the issues.

From my own experience, BioWare is currently handling the failure of the project better than for example Fallout 76. At least that’s how I would handle it if it was my project.
It is a big advantage when the team gets time to do rework quietly without the noise and hate from outside. From a development point of view that is.
Obviously they seem to slowly feel they are on the right track which is why they really want to show us their current results, which is understandable.

Another point is that Anthem is kind of Casey Hudson’s baby. And him being in a high position right now is probably the reason they aren’t pulling the plug. He wants the game to succeed.

@KelticDevil and it’s my opinion about you that I dislike such comments.
Because such comments may harm the wants of other players and are very selfish.
It doesn’t help anybody, not even you. And just creates unnecessary noise and hate.
So I am free to state my opinion about you. Just as you are free to state your opinion about the game.

See where this leads us. To stress. You’re welcome.

Re: BioWare Reveals Plans For Anthem 2.0's Overhauled Loot System

tatsumi

@KelticDevil so you rather have your $60 go down the drain than have a chance to still have the game saved and be fun? (Actually the game is fun, just doesn’t have enough to do)

Sorry I don’t follow that kind of logic. It feels too irrational to me.

And I know BioWare mismanaged the game. But my point stands. Instead of pushing out the next broken game and EA just pulling the plug on anthem, they better spend time and money fixing Anthem first. The more it hurts, the quicker they learn to manage their game dev cycles better. And pulling the plug doesn’t hurt them, only the player.

You can give your opinion to the state of the game, but comments like “put it out of its misery” are simply disrespectful towards those of us who still enjoy it and want it to succeed. And I bought the legion of Dawn edition at launch. I got through all the mess plus the alpha test.

Re: BioWare Reveals Plans For Anthem 2.0's Overhauled Loot System

tatsumi

@KelticDevil I dislike when people say stuff like that.
The game has amazing mechanics, and the devs really want to get the game on the right track. We should be happy they try to get out of the mess for people who paid for it.
They could have gone the usual EA route, let it die and move on to the next bugged game that ends up being a mess at release.

That mentality has to stop and it should hurt EA twice to mismanage or rush a project. And working quietly on an overhaul without getting sales is what’s hurting EA far more than killing it and moving on. Otherwise they’ll never learn.

So by saying “put it out of its misery”, you are siding with EA greedy managers, not with passionate developers who genuinely want to make a good game.

I am looking forward to Anthem 2.0. I have around 500 hours invested into the game. Would love to see how the story continues.

@BAMozzy The gameplay and combat is excellent in the game and together with the story the only things that don’t need any overhaul.
They just try to make it more responsive and snappy. But when you play Anthem in combat, there is a good chance you will get bored of Destiny’s gameplay.
The game really only has these issues:

  • still some annoying bugs, not enough polish
  • no good progression/loot system for end game
  • no efficient use of world segmentation that leads to seeing too many loading screens

I wanted to also write “no content”, but that is more like a result out of the above issues. Since the devs didn’t have time to work on content anymore in order to fix stuff.

Re: 343 Addresses Concerns About Halo Infinite's Graphics And Visuals

tatsumi

@DavLFC well, what they delivered was DOOM gameplay with retro visuals.

@Z3u5000
A user score of over 90 in meta critic for Ghost of Tsushima, plus all media talking about how beautiful the game is, are against you.
Also, your entire post smells like blind fanboy talk.

People should learn to give credit where credit is due and stop this console war nonsense. See yourself as a gamer, and not a PS/Nintendo/XBox/PC lover that has to talk bad about the competition no matter what.

Halo didn’t look like anything special, period.
That the devs weren’t aware of some of the obvious low quality issues is concerning.

But anyway, what I did like is the gameplay itself and being on the ring again. And I will play Halo for the gameplay and story anyway. But I am currently more amazed by The Medium with its rendering of two worlds at the same time when it comes to actual next gen stuff. Although since it runs on PC, it doesn’t seem to make full use of the SSD.

Re: Phil Spencer: We'll Talk More About Backwards Compatibility In August

tatsumi

Quite interesting reading how many choose Xbox for BC.
If I wanted BC I would simply keep the current console for a little while longer before selling it. So I basically don’t care about BC.
But I suppose many don’t have that kind of money and have to sell their current console in order to afford the next.

The mentality behind Xbox and PS fans is definitely very different. That’s why I feel the 2 aren’t really direct competitors, but simply aim at different types of gamers.

Re: Microsoft Responds To Negative Feedback For Halo Infinite's Visuals

tatsumi

I watched it in 4k60fps on a 65” 4K tv and I wasn’t really impressed.
It basically looked like a Xbox one X title to me.
It will be interesting to see a comparison later on between Xbox one X and series X.
Maybe I am also a bit too spoiled by TLoU2 and Ghost of Tsushima and their graphical fidelity.

Anyway, I was fine with what was shown. Will be playing it and hopefully enjoy it. It looks “good enough”. Nothing groundbreaking.

Re: Dev Suggests Xbox 'Cares A Lot More About 120FPS Than Sony Does'

tatsumi

@GamingFan4Lyf it’s okay if the game looks graphical demanding I guess.
But look at that game. I bet it could actually run 4K120fps on an iPad Pro.
I think Unity is simply not yet optimized for PS5 and he doesn’t have the time to make it happen by himself. It’s understandable since he is a one-man team.
But he should have known better that a comment like that with graphics like the above would give him a hard time with the community.

Re: Guide: How To Watch This Week's Xbox Series X Games Showcase

tatsumi

I most probably won't be buying an XSX (depends on how Xcloud will end up being and if it releases in Japan in first place this year), but since I could play a bunch of "exclusives" on PC, I am excited to see what is coming.

@Z3u5000 Sony did say early on though that it won't be 4k60fps live because of bandwidth. And they stated early on that 4k30fps/4k60fps parts of the show will be released separately after the show.
So that of course kind of sets expectations right.
All Microsoft has to do is set expectations right. You know, like when they say they show gameplay, they should actually show gameplay

Re: Phil Spencer: We Want Xbox To Be A Great Platform For Japanese Games

tatsumi

I live in Japan and I think Japanese would love to buy an Xbox if there is simply a reason for it.
Reason being games. They generally don’t care about the system they play on. They only care about the games and who created those games (e.g. preferably Japanese companies when it comes down to the typical JRPGs).
With xCloud and because Japanese love gaming on phones, Microsoft might have the possibility to capture a big market here.

Re: Xbox Boss: Aggressive Console War Talk Is Holding The Industry Back

tatsumi

@NorrinRadd exactly my thoughts.
Reading their comments was quite funny in that respect.

I appreciate Sony focusing mostly on their new generation and how to make most of it and I also appreciate the road Microsoft is taking.
I first thought I might buy an XSX as well as the PS5. But with project xCloud and having a strong gaming PC, I don’t think I need to.
So in that regard I am happy. Maybe project xCloud could someday come to PlayStation.
Microsoft basically trying to sell a platform, whereas Sony is trying to push limits with the PS5 in regards to new possibilities for game design (SSD), as well as immersion (DualSense and Tempest Engine). Things developers want/need to realize their ideas.
Some games will for time being be just XSX exclusive because of its SSD capabilities (e.g. The Medium), which are very similar to what PS5 offers. For those I hope I can play them via xCloud. If not, I might buy an XSX after all.
