@BacklogBrad it's not just early access. It's also for the future DLC expansion. No doubt that will be $30 at launch anyway. So the way I see it, you'll be paying the same eventually except I have five more days to play early.
@GamingFan4Lyf yeah you are 100% correct. I think you'll find the only people who criticise early access are those who can't afford it. I say tough. Get a better job with more pay. Or just get a job full stop. Friends and I will be enjoying this epic adventure come Friday 1am. 😎
Bought 2 Starfield controllers when they launched. Also paid for early access and taken a full weeks holiday just to play . Pre-loaded, pre-patched and ready to rock. Avoiding spoilers rest of today. Jumping in fresh (well apart from what was revealed at showcase).
Set for the stars. Bring it.
Edit: playing on XSX.
@Cashews if people have the disposable income and choose to pay for early access then what's it to you? Doesn't affect your gameplay at all. Same as anything in life, if you can't afford to pay - tough - you gotta wait.
@pip_muzz you can't assume that. We have kids under 14 and when they first used the term 'wtf' with the 'f' being for the obvious swear word, we made them use the word 'fudge'. As far as I am aware, saying 'what the fudge' is NOT swearing.
Nah, cloud gaming suks as is and will never work en-masse. As others have mentioned just too many unreliable variables. Plus, what's the point? Mobile gaming on a phone is pretty much dead unless you're not even a gamer and just dabble in crap like Candy Crush. Don't know anyone who uses a phone for gaming anymore, virtually everyone has some handheld or other. Other argument is 'yeah but you can play anywhere'.. Nah, not really. Whereas with a console and TV... umm hey wow! ... I can move anywhere on the planet and play whatever I like.
@PhileasFragg ... 'You can't put the total Windows gaming market in MS's coffers any more than you could say Ikea is since they make most of the desks that those PCs sit on.' ... Umm yeah you can. Virtually all PCs run windows. Windows is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft gets paid for every license. Barring the small % of PCs running Linux. So it follows without the Microsoft OS or licensing, you ain't be playing much on your shiny new rig.
@PhileasFragg https://www.statista.com/statistics/292460/video-game-consumer-market-value-worldwide-platform/#statisticContainer In 2021, total console gaming market sales amounted to 32 billion U.S. dollars, compared to 44.6 billion U.S. dollars generated by the worldwide PC gaming market. Packaged gaming sales only amounted to 11 billion U.S. dollars. As you can see from the Statista website, pc sales alone are around 1.5x the TOTAL console sales. This includes PS. Those market gaps have have steadily increased since 2021.
@Cashews i think we agree on the same points, just a few years apart . And 100% to the rest of your post. Game dev or lack of this past few... decades? ... has been very noticeable. Yeah every gen we get higher fps and flashier gfx, all grafted onto ports of games of ports of games we've seen a thousand times over. Then again, having read what I just wrote perhaps as a generation we are fortunate to have been there at the...'golden era(s)' ... , but also forever suffer the misfortune of viewing anything in the gaming sphere, through jaded eyes. Frightening to consider the possibility that gaming will never be better or even equal those long gone days. Perhaps our digital descendants shall be forever reaching backwards to our pixelated past. PS: also yeah microtransactions suck major league penguin d*ck.
@Cashews I would argue that the Amiga / Atari ST generation was the golden Era. Though arguments could easily be made for the ZX / C64 Era. Its the originality and variation in titles I would reckon is what draws people. Plus nostalgia. Not to mention they're just so much daym fun.
@PhileasFragg not true. Sony has XboX beat true, in the gaming market. But no way does Sony beat Microsoft in gaming. When you talk Microsoft you also have to include PC gaming market. PC and XboX combined trounce Sony.
Obvious answer. Depends on finances. Also does anyone know what happens if you buy the upgrade but then after Starfield release you cancel GP sub? Surely you must keep access to the full game otherwise it's paying for a dead DLC.
@NorthwestEagle you neglected to mention the most important systems imo. Amiga, Speccy and the few hundred or so arcade games - and you can't deny, arcades in the 70-80s had some awesome titles.
@NorthwestEagle you're obviously not Gen X. There's virtually every great ZX speccy game. All the Amiga and C64 libraries. Hundreds of arcade games which were awesome in the 80s, even better with age (mostly). Hundreds of games across Atari consoles too. Alien Breed, Bubble Bobble, R-Type ... Simon the Sorcerer . Anyone who lived through this golden age of gaming will easily recognise many titles.
XsX I'll be replaying Gears Tactics on GP. Also still enjoying Elden Ring and Bards Tale (OG not directors cut).
Switch I'll be still working my way through Luigis Mansion. Never actually ginished it.
Evercade playing through Codemasters Dizzy collection and Bitmap Brothers collection. Replaying Chaos engine years later in 1080p in couch co-op is awesome.
Gamecube. Loving replaying Simpsons Hit N Run. Haven't laughed so hard at a game in ages. Also with a decent AVi to HDMi 1080p upscaler looks great.
PS4 pro. Nothing atm, just awaiting a new SSD so I can upgrade the aging HD. Gonna do full re-furbish, thermal paste, the whole nine yards. Still a great console imo.
PS3. Nothing atm.
Ok gonna go. Great site guys. TC all and have fun out there.
