Well this is scary.. I have like 800+ movies and 40ish seasons of tv. I only started buying them years ago from MS because it's Ms, super rich Ms so no chance they would ever stop the service..
I'm done buying content.. time to set sail again after 20+ years on dry land.
Unbelievable and the final nail in my Xbox coffin. Good job Microsoft you found my red line. You're about to lose a whale... a really really big one.
I'll take the better image image quality and instant pixel response of an OLED panel over battery life any day. The difference is minimal especially weighed against the extreme improvement OLED brings vs LCD...
The cost difference for a vrr 120hz OLED panel of this size vs LCD isn't that large.. we are talking $15 per unit, oh the horror
Gawd how could you trick me like that lol. I thought there was an a demo.. for all of us
Back to cyberpunk, which I've just started (well I played 5 hours at launch then waited) and so far so good. I needed a wukong break, it's shiney and pretty especially at 4k60 cinematic with vhigh RT (DLSS balanced) but the gameplay itself is as deep as a puddle. Still fun but... Not what I was expecting based on the post launch hype
@CallMeDuraSouka if you understand how rendering works it looks very much like a game that would be under 60 on such old hardware, especially running on UE5. Between the visuals on a heavy engine and the higher CPU use you generally get from an RPG like this..it just makes sense.
Lowering resolution can only get you so far
Perhaps they will be able to hit 40 but I'm not worried, I have a PC for these scenarios.
So does that mean when this comes out we will stop calling the current consoles next gen?
Can that term end next gen.. like the day it releases please? Once it's out it's current gen. That's my only wish for the next round of consoles. I don't care what hardware is inside I just want it to not be called next gen for its entire generation.
@Xbox_Dashboard probably because Renderware is literally from 1993 lol.
The reason Bethesda has kept using it is because it's oddly efficient at keeping track of huge numbers of persistent objects and every object in a Bethesda game I literally persistent. It's also very easily modded by users which is probably the main reason they have kept using it. It might not seem difficult but an engine that makes a game THAT easy to do huge overhauls on by fans is quite rare.
Bethesda used Renderware... Sorry THE CREATION! Engine for the final time with Starfield. They have been working with idtech and Microsoft on a new engine basically since Fallout 4 released but something that can meet their needs takes quite a lot of time to create.
They need something that maintains object persistence basically like an MMO server but without the server, visually appealing, fast to load assets and data, easily and highly moddable though the benefit of that to them isn't just sales, it also means development itself is (or should be) easier and the toolset the artists , designers and everyone uses will be very mature by the time they need them to be for TES6.
I had hoped Skyrim was the last game to use that engine... Honestly I had hoped Oblivion would be but that was wishful thinking lol. I never expected it would be in a game released in 2023 though.
As for this update... It's gotta change a decent amount of stuff since it's 14 gigs. That kinda heft has a cause although it's understandable that it may not be very obvious. The point of this update wasn't really to remaster F4 or make it look modern .. that's what mods are for. The point was to get it running better on current consoles and also update the code base basically for Win11/12 as dx12u and the ever marching progress of GPU's. It causes some pain in mods like a script extender until they update it but considering it likely extended the life of the game by 15 years in terms of compatibility... It was probably worth it even if its not a super deep change
As the kind of user who would max out point redemption by June every year .. this isn't so bad. Yeah it's less but you can still earn more than you can spend so it's not as big a deal as it may appear and it's still way better than Sonys rewards program
@Blofse my biggest nemesis as a little kid was Metroid... It made no sense to me lol. Eventually when I was about 10 I was able to push through the frustration and figure it out but when we first got the NES I was just like... What is this nonsense.
Now is easily one of my favorite series and the only game I don't like is Metroid other m. Super Metroid and the fan made AMR2 are definitely my top 2
@Blofse Mario frustrating... Whaaaat ?! As a kid I loved the simple yet alluring challenge Mario offered. Even at like 6 years old I knew I only died when I messed up and when I was 8 I finally beat Mario 1 then quickly beat 2 and 3... I was a lifetime master at that point.
It was invaluable in teaching me patience and observational skills/pattern recognition so I could get through and win.
TBF dead island 2 kinda got leaked as coming but it's a decent score. I have it on PC and it's fun enough but its not anywhere near as good as tech lands zombie parkour open world madhouse's dying light 1 & 2.
I think I played dying light more total hours than many other games combined over the last 12ish years .. I would spend many hours a day roaming around and it never got old lol. Never played much of 2 because it ran bad on my 2080ti and now I have a 4090 which runs it great but I have other things to finish first including dead island 2. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will have cross save
@Broosh never because the show and game version are designed "for a modern audience" and apparently modern means people no longer like escapism fantasy characters lol

@SoulChimera I'm gonna assume lots of sports stuff? I have to admit I forget that they made them lol. I know how crazy that sounds I mean it's friggin ea... The only sport game I play is racing stuff and ea has made me sad in regards to racing games.
I literally couldn't think of anything they made last year besides dead space and wrc and now that I'm trying (if you don't count sports) I don't think I can come up with anything the year before.. was star wars 2023 or 2022? I remember playing it for like 30 min on PC but it was so broken from just unbelievable amount of stutter that I stopped. I should check if they fixed the major stutter cause I wanna play it but I know they never really fixed the first one so I don't imagine the sequel is stutter free either... I'm definitely getting tired
Isn't ea on PlayStation $9.99 or is it $4.99? Ever since they stopped charging for fee in addition to Gamepass I stopped paying any attention to the price especially because I'm paid up on ultimate through 2026 thanks to rewards. I haven't paid for gold and now gp since 2013 but the new lower reward points for things means I'm probably gonna have to start in 2 years.. sigh
@SoulChimera that makes little sense really. If you're doing it for just multiplayer it would end up being cheaper to buy the game. EA games pretty much always go on sale within the first couple months and there's generally no reason to play them at launch plus they have cross play so if you want to play some on PlayStation then use PC.
I mean to each their own but I can't think of a single ea game from the last 5 years besides DeD Space that was worth purchasing let alone paying an extra subscription fee especially when it's already built into one that's $9.99
Cliff must need a new Lamborghini.. seriously though I think he would be a good fit at Microsoft and the coalition.
I got stuck in gears 5 and never finished. I had completed a mission and traveled 2500 meters on the skid to the next location and I followed the marker into a cave and was met with essentially a 10 foot ledge and I couldn't drop down despite the map marker being right there. I couldn't figure out if it was soft locked or what but because I couldn't get there I just gave up and it was the first gears I didn't finish.
Those are the patch notes? You would think they would do more considering they basically complained about updates requiring certification a few days ago ...
The game isn't for me but I tried it and they should address the abysmal performance and janky feeling controls
@Doomed87 you can at least get 2 systems on the same account right now. I do that so my son can access all my content. His Xbox is assigned home so my profile is on it but not logged in or active but access to content and Xbl works. Then on my Xbox I have to be online and logged in to access content but we can play together on separate system from separate locations. I can also access my content on PC without issue. If the game has split screen you can have 2 people on the "home" xbox while you play on the profile that actually pays for everything on the 2nd console and it works even if you share an external IP address.
@Dirk_Diggler gotta disagree and for 1 big reason. The whole point of the Xbox was because Microsoft wanted not only the computer room but also a box under every TV
They got damn close with the Xbox 360 until Mattrick really messed it up then made it worse with the Xbox one.
Microsoft is slowly earning people back and Sony is coasting on brand recognition. I've barely used my PS5 and I've had it since launch. I use my Xbox and PC constantly. Microsoft just needs a steady cadence of great 1st party games and I think they are just about there.
The only other change they should probably make is to be a bit more hands on with the studios. I know they like to let each dev run their own show but sometimes that doesn't always work out well... 343. Yeah Infinite is now an amazing game but it took 2 extra years when the mismanagement could have been caught sooner. I don't think 343 is the only studio taking advantage of unlimited budgets either.
So maybe some studio can work like separate companies but not all of them at least not unless they prove they can handle it. Hell even Bungie couldn't do it. They had a MS employee in office at all times keeping them on track because they tended to fall behind or just start over.
Just look at what happened to them once they got away from activision... Destiny fell apart. Sony bought them because they thought they were live service geniuses but really all they did was make a good fps (again) and keep making content... they didn't do anything special at all lol.
Sorry it's my fault... for 7 years in a row I managed to hit myself yearly half a million spend limit before July and based on how many points I currently have banked ill hit that limit before February lol.
They actually banned me once for nearly a month because they didn't think it was possible for me to earn what I was earning but I searched on bing, I did every quest there too and on Xbox. I spent money in the store and used bing rebates on top of it and I had a 72 week streak at one point (until the ban which reset it) so I was making lots of free money. Hell my game pass ultimate is paid up through end of 2025 and I haven't paid for Xbl gold or gp since 2016.
One change they probably should make is they shouldn't let you earn points on store credit purchases. I understand they do because gift cards and they don't want those people to look out but on the other hand there's me paying for a game or movie using free money and on top of that (before a rule change) I was also earning bing cash back rebates and more free points off the deal.
I always wished Sony had a good program but even with their recent improvements and Microsofts downgrades the Xbox rewards program is still significantly better than Sonys or anyone else's for that matter.
The weekly streak isn't that big of a loss when you think about it. The bigger loss is the daily achievement for 50 points but you can make them up by loading the Xbox mobile app every day, playing a PC game pass game if possible every day and also playing jewel on the mobile app. That's nearly 200 points for 5 min of effort.
@__jamiie I agree but Microsoft said you will be able to buy the games after they kill the old store and download them anytime because they will be on the newer store. The only thing going away will be the ability to buy games and dlc through the 360 store but everything that's backwards compatible is on the new store and if you own a game you can download it effectively forever...
The demo was built like 4 months ago and the things you're talking about are literally the last stuff to be fine tuned and polish.
The last 4 months are when a game really comes together and it has pretty much been that way since we entered the 3d age.plus it's not bad at all and it looks great and runs great and seems to have a good story
They probably did it because of Xbox rewards and the 50 points a day if you get an achievement you can earn and within easy achievement set of games you have guaranteed 50 points a day everyday and that's kind of defeating the purpose of rewards and devalues achievements in general
@AlwaysPlaying I'd wait because they are remaking Witcher 1 & 2 as well... well 2 will get better visuals and a combat overhaul but Witcher 1 will need to be completely remade because it was considered clunky when it came out
@DrJimmyRussler yeah, it's unfortunate that is the case but I'm surprised he hadn't actually left tango sooner.
Usually you see a studio head leave about 2 years after an acquisition and start a new studio (with the Bioware Dr's being a rare exception) even if it's to make just 1 final title independently
I played the Wo Wong demo on PC yesterday and I was hyped to try it out but I ended up with a game that had a poor frame rate on a 5800x, 32 gigs of DDR4 and RTX4090.
Its visuals were oddly bland and aliased. the HDR implementation was awful and the combat felt like many other games right down to parry timing.
I really hope the demo was very old and they layered on the polish really thick because I just need expected significantly more.
@Kaloudz well it's hard to understand someone's intent regardless of the topic and Phil is so... Deadpan with his emotions, well except for at the game awards when he was on camera thinking about getting laser eyes to use on Jim Ryan that it can be easy to misconstrue.
@Kaloudz backhanded? No lol... He basically just said Bethesda is run like Bethesda as in they get some autonomy instead of Microsoft telling them what to do every step of the way.
Shadow drops work for games like that because of the kind of experience it is but if they just released something that usually would be require a big marketing push to maximize sales then a shadow drop would be horrible.
Remember most of gamers or people who play games don't follow news or watch the events... We are the 1%. They need to also reach the 99% and that game would have probably sold very few copies on steam or Xbox had they just plopped it on gamepass and hoped the mass market found it and played it.
He answering the question the way it needs to be answered because people will expect this all the time and while Microsoft has done tons of releases the same day of the show Phil is right when he says it's not the right move for everything... That's not backhanded that's him saying Bethesda made a great game, decided to bring it to Ms and say hey let's release this on show day and it worked out great because the buzz was huge once people started playing.
Makes sense, they probably are trying to decide whether to do a relaunch or something or it could be just to compare data vs a future survey if say they did stand behind the game and 343i started kicking some ass with new content and perhaps a completely upgraded campaign on top.
Halo should be a showcase title but last gen support ensured it wouldn't be, at least not visually.
I think MS has learned their lesson about using contract workers and rotating them out as they do while using a bespoke engine like slipspace.
The really unfortunate part is slipspace on series x is genuinely capable of mind-blowing visuals and audio but none of the more advanced features were even used due to the VCR support.
I still love half infinite. The core gameplay is just too good for them to move on so I really hope this time has been spent fixing it and when the next season releases in like 36 days or something that it just blows people away.
Oh can we stop using steam player counts as the metric for total players? It's not accurate because it doesn't count Xbox & Windows store players even though it's crossplay. It only counts steam users.
If the player count was as low as steam says then finding a game in every mode would basically be impossible but... It's not even close. Hell yesterday I played ranked for 3 hours and didn't see the same people over and over like I would in a game that has the number steam shows and multiple game modes
They shouldn't worry too much. I would never have played let alone bought Tunic on steam had it not been for gamepass ultimate.
I played it on the Xbox and enjoyed it and when I enjoy something enough I buy it even if I played it already. Things aren't on GP forever and it's likely this dev made a ton of money, more than they likely would have in sales and then sales were generated BECAUSE of gamepass.
Other indie devs have spoken about the difference between being on gamepass and other services and they all said they were more than happy with Microsoft and the results.
I understand why a developer might worry but I don't think there is cause to do so.
This game has worse visuals that Arkham Knight which was a last gen game released midway through it... I don't know wth happened here but it looks like it's lacking in every dept
@Wyatt006 crossfire x is a f2p fps from China so it's been "done" for quite some time... There is just a different standard of quality between the 2 markets caused by the legality of gaming, especially on console in China.
I bought it for the campaign by Remedy but I didn't play much because it ran so poorly although I can hardly blame remedy considering they were probably paid $15 and given a week to work with the multiplayer codebase and build a campaign with it.
I'll download the whole thing again to see what's changed but I don't have high expectations lol.
I really don't know why this game was even mentioned and not just silently released unless it was part of some contractual thing between Microsoft and some company involved in China because quite honestly this game is embarrassing
The goal is essentially to have an exclusive game or more (first, 3rd and indie) every month. It was supposed to start mid 2022 but covid and dev kit supply issues delayed a ton of stuff people don't even know about.
So they will get there and it will be fantastic. I've found so many games through gamepass that I otherwise would have never played.
The problem is fully playable games are getting to the point where they don't fit in a disc.
I'd they used the same capacity disc as a 4k movie it would effectively triple the cost of that disc. If they include 2 discs that's a cost issue and it would be annoying for users since you need that day 1 and day 100 patch.
There are always reasons things are the way they are but removing the check that they just removed is great.
The main reason for the check on anything big is because you can download games you don't own so you could in theory have a 2 disc game, give a disc to someone so they can play and you can play..
It's not a punishment. It's also less strict than PC drm and without some protections nobody will release games.
@Arlondiluthel well if course but on the series x the dash right before this was pretty close. Everything loaded instantly. Even my stuff and I have 318 games installed, 840 in my library.
Pins were right there, you could search anything and anywhere by hitting the Y button. You could add all the stuff they added if you WANTED it wasn't forced. Really my biggest gripe is pins.
Why would they remove the pins from basically the top slot? Otherwise everything still loads instantly and that's great but... I want fast access to my games and they made it a cluttered mess just because.
I hope people are leaving near daily feedback about this via the insider app or this will be the best dash for all...
I hear yah. I'm also ancient but I adopted digital everything basically ASAP. The way I see it, if a game I really like isn't going to be playable digitally for some reason then I'll find it cheap on disc or at least reasonably priced. Of course if there is a PC version and for some odd reason that stays up then I'd just play that until I could use emulation. The one good thing about the Xbox and it's literal PC hardware is that it also runs dx12u. Yeah devs can get down deeper than that but 3rd parties won't and most games probably won't require it... But basically I'll find a way to play it even if I have to pay more.
I know that's basically incentive for them to do stupid **** with digital games but I don't think they would unless legally forced.
Plus I have gamepass paid up through the end of 2025 thanks to rewards. I haven't paid for an online service on Xbox in 13 years this year and I hope to continue not paying lol.
@themightyant probably because most people with the disc bought but for GoldenEye for next to nothing.
Not saying you did and it does suck but I get why they are doing it that way... But it's Microsoft they usually figure out a fair upgrade path.
I mean the first post is about the guy getting the game used for "next to nothing" and if everyone did that... We would never see anything like this again.
I have a feeling. This feeling tells me 2 things.. first it tells me RDNA3 is going to smack nVidia around a bit but that's not related. So the 2nd thing it's telling me is they are going to use sales and engagement with this game (achievements, hours played, modes played etc) and use it to Guage whether or not it's fiancially viable to give this the Halo Anniversary edition style make over like they had started for the 360 but couldn't finish

Re: Microsoft Rep Issues Statement In Response To MS Rewards Concerns
Re: Microsoft Rep Issues Statement In Response To MS Rewards Concerns
Re: A Bunch Of Great Xbox 360 Games Will Be Delisted Forever Next Year
@__jamiie I agree but Microsoft said you will be able to buy the games after they kill the old store and download them anytime because they will be on the newer store. The only thing going away will be the ability to buy games and dlc through the 360 store but everything that's backwards compatible is on the new store and if you own a game you can download it effectively forever...
Re: Hands On: Lies Of P - An Impressively Creepy Take On Pinocchio That Needs A Little TLC In The Combat Department
Re: Xbox Takes Action Against Game With Easy Achievement Stacks, Developer Denies Breaking Rules
They probably did it because of Xbox rewards and the 50 points a day if you get an achievement you can earn and within easy achievement set of games you have guaranteed 50 points a day everyday and that's kind of defeating the purpose of rewards and devalues achievements in general
Re: Rumour: Ubisoft+ Set For April Xbox Launch, Featuring A Massive Lineup
@nofriendo Immortal is such a fantastic game. That aside wth happened to the remake of Prince of Persia?
It was supposed to come out like 3 years ago!
Re: Former PlayStation Exclusive 'Sifu' Finally Makes Its Xbox Debut This Month
@theduckofdeath has some fantastic mods too. Love this game.
Re: Multi-Time 'Game Of The Year' Winner Finally Makes Its Debut On Xbox
you had me quite excited until I saw that it was a card game lol
Re: The Witcher 3 New Update (4.02) Improves Visuals & Performance On Xbox Series X|S
@AlwaysPlaying I'd wait because they are remaking Witcher 1 & 2 as well... well 2 will get better visuals and a combat overhaul but Witcher 1 will need to be completely remade because it was considered clunky when it came out
Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Comments On High-Profile Bethesda Departure
@DrJimmyRussler yeah, it's unfortunate that is the case but I'm surprised he hadn't actually left tango sooner.
Usually you see a studio head leave about 2 years after an acquisition and start a new studio (with the Bioware Dr's being a rare exception) even if it's to make just 1 final title independently
Re: These 20+ Games Are Coming To Xbox Next Week (February 27 - March 3)
I played the Wo Wong demo on PC yesterday and I was hyped to try it out but I ended up with a game that had a poor frame rate on a 5800x, 32 gigs of DDR4 and RTX4090.
Its visuals were oddly bland and aliased. the HDR implementation was awful and the combat felt like many other games right down to parry timing.
I really hope the demo was very old and they layered on the polish really thick because I just need expected significantly more.
Thankfully it's on gamepass so I can find out.
Re: Phil Spencer Reacts To This Week's Xbox Game Pass 'Shadow Drop'
@Kaloudz well it's hard to understand someone's intent regardless of the topic and Phil is so... Deadpan with his emotions, well except for at the game awards when he was on camera thinking about getting laser eyes to use on Jim Ryan that it can be easy to misconstrue.
Re: Phil Spencer Reacts To This Week's Xbox Game Pass 'Shadow Drop'
Re: Xbox Research Survey Asks Fans If They Are 'Done Playing Halo Infinite'
Re: Tunic Publisher 'Concerned' About Subscription Services Like Xbox Game Pass
Re: Warner Bros Reveals Why Gotham Knights Will Be 30FPS On Xbox Series X|S
This game has worse visuals that Arkham Knight which was a last gen game released midway through it... I don't know wth happened here but it looks like it's lacking in every dept
Re: PlatinumGames Explains Why Its New Releases Never Come To Xbox Anymore
Such a shame that Bayonetta 3 is locked to the switch. It belongs on PC too
Re: The 'Worst Xbox Game Of 2022' Is Slowly Starting To Make A Comeback
Re: Rumour: Xbox Initially Planned To Launch 9 Exclusives In 2023
The goal is essentially to have an exclusive game or more (first, 3rd and indie) every month. It was supposed to start mid 2022 but covid and dev kit supply issues delayed a ton of stuff people don't even know about.
So they will get there and it will be fantastic. I've found so many games through gamepass that I otherwise would have never played.
Re: Xbox Series X Update Makes Great Change To Game Installs
@GlasgowGuy I've never had 1 of my 200+ 360 games fail to install...
Are you on the insider dash? If you are I'd leave the insider dash program because it's always caused issues like that..
If the security layer on a disc is damaged and it can't get the full key then that could do it too.
What are a few games (and are they digital or disc) that won't install?
Re: Xbox Series X Update Makes Great Change To Game Installs
Re: Xbox Dev Comments On Feedback For The New Dashboard
Re: GoldenEye 007 Will Be Free For Digital Owners Of Rare Replay On Xbox
Re: GoldenEye 007 Will Be Free For Digital Owners Of Rare Replay On Xbox
Re: Xbox Dev Comments On Feedback For The New Dashboard
@Notoriousmakavel and put pins right under the fixed options because the dash was basically perfect before and now it's a disaster.
