@RegnumSolipsi A game can be remade twice. Just as it can for ports and remasters. Just take a look at what was done in the PS360 gen. Splinter Cell trilogy, PoP trilogy, Beyond Good and Evil, Jak trilogy, Sly trilogy, Ratchet and Clank trilogy. These were all remastered in HD. And a bunch more. PS4/One gen also got a bunch of remasters. I don't see Halo CE and especially Halo 2 An fitting that group. And we don't know exactly how this new project will work, but I see it this way: The 2 remakes we've got are faithful remakes. Visually remade from the ground up, improved sound and resolution. But still the same games at heart. Kinda like: Zelda OoT 3D, Link's Awakening and Super Mario RPG. What I believe they are working on is an ambicious remake. A full reconstruction of the original game. Mind you, I still consider it a remake, but that level of commitment I believe deserves it's own subcategory of reimagining. Like RE2, for instance. It's still RE2, but completely rebuilt from the ground up. And not many games fit this category. At least, that's how I see it. To further push my point. There's a lot of confusion as to what exactly this Oblivion version is. If they'd announced it simply as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and desbribed it as a faithful remake, do you think this level of confusion would have happened?
@RegnumSolipsi You kinda gave the answer there. And 10+ years ago, people could tell the difference. This whole confusion is a more recent thing. Heck... I've seen professional journalists in gaming say "I wonder if it's an HD port or a remaster". That hurt.
Let's get RE4 as an example since it's been all over the place. The game released on GameCube. Then, it was ported to the PS2. There was a visual downgrade and some content added, but in terms of visuals and gameplay, they were very similar or exactly the same. Then we had another port, this time for the Wii. Slightly better graphics and new motion controls, but, again, essentially the same game. Still a port since it was SD to SD. Now comes the fun part. RE4 was released on the Zeebo (may it rest in pieces), but that was a huge visual downgrade and there were several changes made to it. That was a demake. Not a good one, but it fits. Then we have RE4 for the PS360 which was a remaster. Same game, but went from SD to HD. Same thing with its other releases when the remaster version was ported to the PS4, XOne, PC and Switch. And we finally reach the RE4 remake. Brand new engine, graphics, etc. To sum up, at least my view: Parallel transition makes it a port. Exact same game but in higher definition (SD/HD or HD/4k), remaster. Game is visually remade, remake. Even if the gameplay is the same. Just to throw two other examples: Super Mario RPG and Zelda Link's Awakening. Aren't they both remakes on the Switch?
I hope I made sense. And as a farewell, Final Fantasy VII Remake... is not a remake, which is just hilarious
@Ricky-Spanish They didn't screw the games themselves (though I do believe them to be overhyped). But they remade the games and branded them as remasters. I can't recall a previous game to have done so.
Sadly we live in a world where port, remaster and remake get thrown around without consideration. Companies marketing also don't help in this matter. I can't say for sure, but as far as I know the first ones to screw this up were Activision with the Crash trilogy.
I guess we'll see how much of a difference it makes when you actually have games constantly releasing on the platform. I watched the whole Nintendo Direct and zero minutes were spent on watching tv shows and movies on the Switch 2. Should they have bundled the Welcome Tour? Sure. But if you read Reggie's book (a great read BTW), you'll see that he had to fight to have Wii Sports bundled with the Wii. Japan was against it (and there it wasn't bundled). Different leadership unfortunately means different piorities in this case.
One is a tablet and the other is a console. One is 0.88 pounds and the other is 4.25 pounds. The fact that the S2 can do 4k60 or even 1080p120 is quite impressive. The question is... will the Series S help the Switch 2 get more games or vice versa?
Avowed at 80 is criminal! I've been playing it slowly due to lack of time, but so far I'm really enjoying the story and characters. Only issue I have is the treasure maps don't appear correctly when I pick them up. Which is quite a minor thing.
I really wanna play this, but I get the feeling it'll get a Switch 2 version and longer RPGs I prefer to have the portability on my side. Between two jobs and two kids, portability is super helpful
It's interesting to me seeing people from developed countries talking about the cost of hardware and software. I wonder how many would still be gamers in a developing country. Or even worse, how many would have been gamers at all in decades past when you could easily pay $400+ for a $200 console and $120 for a $50 game. All that while making about 30% as much money and inflation issues being a constant in your life and not a post-pandemic / post-tafiff thing.
Anyway. I've got my S2+MKW on Amazon Spain and got DKB from another store for 50 euro.
@Kaloudz I can see why the press release side of things would impact you when acting on that capacity. But for the other 99% of people watching the events, it's all the same thing really as during the presentations it's all the same thing. It can deduce one thing or another, sure (like Patapon also being on PS5), but for most stuff you just find out afterwards if you look it up
It would be absolutely hilarious if on April 2nd the Switch got a new Mario game announced as well as getting games from Xbox such as Indy + a game from Sony such as Spider-Man
@Kaloudz I wouldn't know. On the 360 and One I was just aware of the bigger titles. I've only joined the Xbox family with the Series S in 2022. Also, my region is set for Brazil, so even games and DLC available elsewhere are currently beyond my reach. I can't buy the DLC for Force Unleashed for instance, but I can buy the game. So weird
I was hoping Spain would also be included, but I've been here for over a month and everyday I see the same message:
Looks like you are on the go! For now, you'll continue to see the Rewards experience for Brazil. If you continue to earn points from Spain, then you will see the Rewards experience for Spain in the future.
I wonder how long it'll take them to switch rewards stuff for me
I can totally see Sony putting some games on the Switch 2. I can't even imagine how much Spider-Man and Horizon could sell over there. On Xbox I can see much more resistance, but Xbox games are selling well on PS and they could eventually drop their guard.
What I don't see is Nintendo changing their tune. If anything, they'll benifit so much this upcoming gen of their, they'll be set.
@Rog-X Nintendo is not one to aquire studios left and right, and when they do, they usually have a long relationship with them. As for Sony... I don't think smaller studios were in their radar back then and to some extent even now, unfortunately.
Alas, it was the best gen for many as all consoles sold well enough, but a part from the DS, they all sold much more closely to one another than any other gen.
@abe_hikura How will it get this game out of the way of another game that doesn't have a release date besides 2025? Also, given Sony's track record, the offical date for Ghost of Yotei will likely be revealed 4 or 5 months before the game releases, so they'll be pretty far apart.
@Balaam_ I can see that working for most of Sony's offerings (Vita excluded). But the Switch was a brand new format. I cannot see a feasible way of making any Nintendo physical media playable on the Switch or the Switch 2
I got mine today. R$30 (almost $5). I'll chip away little by little. The only one I'm sure I'll play soon is Sonic 3D Blast. I still have my original MD copy, but I've never beaten it. Now's my chance
I tried playing the remake of the first game for the 360, but really REALLY didn't like the gameplay. It even turned me off to trying the sequels. But this new one I'll give a try once it releases
I work two jobs on the PC already, so when I wanna have fun, that's as far from it as possible. I really hope we get a console version.
Also, Xbox, please put AoE2 on the "Switch 2". I have both AoE games on the DS and it would be a great game on the go on top of expanding my very weird AoE physical collection lol
@IOI And that was true for every single thing I said. Until it wasn't. And it's not as if Sony developed games aren't on Xbox. Sure, the MLB forced their hand, but getting a Sony developed game day one on Game Pass is fun to see. Please, feel free to keep your scepticism. You'll be right, until you aren't. Makes no difference to me. I'm playing the really long game
I remember a time where Sonic on Nintendo was impossible. Crash outside PS was impossible. Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest were Nintendo only. Things can change. Just don't hold your breath.
If the game runs well on the Switch, portability wins for me. But depending on price or performance, I buy it on Xbox. Once I move to a civilized country, I will have easier access to physical media of smaller games for decent prices, so my PS library will get a boost as well. Both my Switch and Xbox stores are Brazilian, but Sony won't let me change the region of my account from the US and the price difference is quite big, unfortunately.
@NEStalgia I don't doubt it. But I've actually never seen an OG Xbox in person not any of the controllers. They were not very popular in Brazil (at least not where I lived). On a sidenote, I had a Mega Drive (Genesis) and never knew the Saturn existed until I read about it on a magazine that was covering SEGA exiting the console business.
Given how much the Switch has sold so far and for how long it's been selling, I'd say it's about time that happened. It just won't last, I imagine, since all three are dropping numbers YOY and the "Switch 2" will launch next year, Xbox will be back in #3 rather soon
