@Banjo- Resident Evil 4 was a straight up action game. So was 5 & 6. Arguably, they're not "Resident Evil" if by that we're talking survival horror aka the first three games. VII and VIII returned the series to their roots and I fail to see how VIII is a "parody" of 4. It's not like 4 in the first place and never was supposed to be otherwise Ethan would have been back flipping to dodge, roundhouse kicking everyone, performing wrestling moves on monsters or punching heads clean off. Hell, speaking of it, RE4, 5 and 6 felt like parodies of Resident Evil lol.
Many of us won't buy games for those prices but the masses will unfortunately, as you said. I'd love to be proven wrong.
Like you, I'll happily wait for sales or use game pass. The majority of games go on sale in a couple of months after release anyway. Not to mention the "complete editions" many games get 1 year later with all DLC...and the inevitable price decrease in sales for those editions a few months later. I can wait.
@InterceptorAlpha Your criticisms are quite spot on. However, none of those criticisms are about the gunplay.
Even with all the flaws of the new Halo games, they have all still maintained actual good gameplay in terms of movement, controls and using guns. It's just a shame 343 misses in many other aspects of the games.
@Jenkinss Correction: Nintendo sells a hybrid console and the latest one is supposedly as powerful as the Series S.
Graphics are pretty decent and besides, a lot of what makes graphics good is artstyle. For me, games like Metroid Dread, Astral Chain, Luigi's Mansion 3 and the latest Zeldas stand out for that reason.
Switch games are often among the top selling and in Japan, Nintendo has completely dominated the PlayStation. So yes, it has had somebody's lunch.
There's a reason Playstation has become an American company and shut down its Japan studios. It lost in its own country.
@Kloppo That's generous of you to assume it will run good on the next Xbox or Playstation too. It'll probably be another Cyberpunk fiasco, so expect it to run poorly if it releases on next gen too until they patch it.
@neoxmahi Third party developers would be foolish to abandon Nintendo when its market share is bigger than Sony's. The Switch outsold PS4 despite the later having a headstart and I've no doubt we'll see the Switch 2 do the same to PS5 which has had a head start.
Besides that, Nintendo remains a platform with strong exclusive titles.
Playstation? It's got nothing. It's released 5 PS5 ONLY games in its whole existence: Astro Bot, Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls, Destruction All Stars and Quantum Error. Two of them are very poorly rated. One of them in a remake of a PS3 game.
The other "60+ exclusives" Wikipedia lists are literally cheap recycled shovelware, mobile ports or VR titles that nobody has heard about. To take a random example that I googled: Gunship: Zombie for example is just a retitled port of a mobile game called Zombie Gunship and I sincerely doubt people brought a PS5 to play mobile ports which probably play better on a phone lol.
Every other game is on PS4, a remaster that people have already played on PS4/PC or a "exclusive" that released on PC too (Helldivers 2). Sure it managed to snag a few timed console exclusives like Black Myth and Silent Hill 2 but they both were on PC day 1.
That's the other thing, Playstation is held back by its own inferior hardware with the PS5 struggling to run Unreal Engine 5 games such as Black Myth Wukong and Silent Hill 2 Remake, both of which I played on PC, high settings with a FPS above 60 which the PS5 can't handle.
There's a reason PS5 is dead in its own country. People there are either playing on Switch or PC.
Speaking of poor business decisions, Sony has been making as many bad ones as Xbox. Look at Playstation's commitment to live service games nobody wanted, hence all of them being cancelled after years in development or released as flops rivalling that ET game such as Concord...if fact, Concord is probably the biggest flop in gaming history far surpassing both Redfall, ET and Gollum put together.
5 years spent on Concord, 400 million down the drain and then it was shut down in a week. God knows how much Sony has wasted on the other live service games it has cancelled. Meanwhile plenty of Sony IPs themselves remain dead, actual good IPs that could be revived but instead we're getting another live service flop this year named Fairgame$ and Marathon from the fallen Bungie with stolen content and AI generated artwork because all the talent left
If it weren't for Kojima's Death Stranding 2 or an asset reflip of Ghost of Tsushima, Playstation would literally have nothing releasing this year.
So glad I switched to PC + Switch and abandoned Sony this gen.
@Lup Definitely do so when you can. Nioh 2 improves upon the first in every possible way. Personally speaking, I'd say it's the best action RPG out there letalone Soulslike.
@Benjamin Well that's every Zelda. From start to end, the games are always throwing new things at you and have lots of variety in gameplay. It's the reason I enjoy that IP. Not to mention, every Zelda game is different, so I agree with you about From Software games. Personally, I feel they're all the same due to reusing the same combat system with the exception of Sekiro. Even the animations are the same and at this point... they're feeling really dated.
I'd also recommend the Nioh games if anyone is on PC. For me, they're the best action RPGs out there and the combat in them is unmatched.
@Lup I'm the opposite. I enjoyed the Dark Souls series when they released but it's nigh impossible to go back to them when games like Wo Long, The Surge 2 and The Fallen Berserker do gameplay way better than anything from From Software.
And don't even get me started on the Nioh games, some say those games are their own thing but if we're saying they're Soulslikes, then they are ones that have beat From Software at their own game by having a highly indepth, complex and engaging combat system.
@Sifi The Last of Us Part 2 is on PC and is a PS4 game. Helldivers 2 released on the same day on PC. Final Fantasy Rebirth is on PC and now Xbox, Rise of the Ronin is on PC, Stellar Blade is coming to PC, Black Myth Wukong was released on PC on the same day as the PS5 version, so was Silent Hill 2 Remake. Astro Bot, the only actual PS5 exclusive, was a flop and only sold 1 million. Until Dawn is a PS4 game and is on PC. Lego Horizon is on Nintendo Switch.
Remind me again, how is Playstation different to Xbox again? It had one exclusive last year which was a flop. Yeah it won GOTY as the Game Awards but Black Myth Wukong won GOTY in every other award ceremony and most players are on PC.
So, PS5 has one actual exclusive from last year and that's it. Every other game is on PC.
PS5 is the console of remasters. Fyi, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Black Myth run way better on PC. I would know, that's where I played them while PS5 players could only play at the equivalent medium settings at 30 FPS.
If you want to be a console fanboy, make it make sense. At least pick the company with actual exclusives (Nintendo).
@AverageGamer That's American's problems. I guess they should reconsider their culture and values instead of acting like people outside of America care if they can't afford a Switch 2.
@themightyant Agreed. People comparing the two seemingly forget there's a vast amount of people who can't afford an Xbox, Playstation or gaming PC. Hell, there's people who can't afford a Switch.
Nintendo Switch OLED was €349.99. So it was kinda a given the Switch 2 would be over this price. It's literally £50 more. No way was it going to be cheaper.
In any case, the pricing of the console is hardly an issue. People should be more worried about Nintendo raising the prices of their games because they could be setting a new industry standard.
Never heard of this guy until today, not sure how he or his opinions are relevant especially since Microsoft fired him.
Former Blizzard staff? Has this guy forgotten what Overwatch 2 looks like and plays like? He's probably just bitter to see people appreciating actual good games rather than all the sloppy flops he oversaw lol.
@swedetrap All the consoles have shovelware but at least Switch has exclusives still. And it's more than Mario. You've got Zelda, Metroid, Smash, Xenoblade and two Platinum Game franchises with Bayonetta and Astral Chain. There's Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Pokémon etc etc.
Most Nintendo Switch games have been massive hits in both player reviews and financially. If it's collecting dust...well it's literally because like you said, you're waiting only for Mario rather than playing the vast many other franchises available on the platform.
Xbox has had what? Two games out this entire generation anybody cares about? Neither were financially successful though.
With Xbox, I can play all its games on my PC including on PC Game Pass which contains more games than the Xbox Series. So even the one pro of Xbox is better on PC. This also applies to PlayStation since most of its games come to PC eventually. It also has the same problems as Xbox this gen in that it's had a limited number of games out this generation that people care about or have been successful. What's it been? 5 games maybe?
This generation, I have stuck with PC + Switch and I haven't regretted it. All the latest news from Playstation and Xbox just, for me, cements the fact that I made the right choice leaving the Playstation/Xbox market.
The game was only in the #1 top selling spot for one day. After that, it's gone down and Call of Duty has already surpassed it.
Furthermore, sales haven't been announced yet. Andromeda was successful for a brief period but only went onto sell 5 million copies and was considered a flop by EA. Its failure is also what got the Mass Effect franchise temporaraily put on hold.
If Veilguard doesn't sale over 10 million in the first few months, I suspect we'd be hearing the same considering the cost of production plus marketing. This isn't a small indie game.
I also sincerely doubt the legitimacy of player numbers since everywhere else on the internet is negative about the game. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the numbers we're seeing are bots. Even the positive reviews on Steam are largely negative, with the top reviews in "recommended" telling people to wait for a bargain bin sale and criticising the lack of roleplaying, the combat, the terrible writing and the sub par story.
Either way, the game seems to have reached its peak and its doing worse than Dragon's Dogma 2 which was probably the biggest disappointment of this year. Yet that game achieved a peak player count over 200,000. 70,000 for Veilguard isn't that good... considering that's still below games released months/years ago such as Wukong, Baldur's Gate 3 and The Forest from 2018.
I'm also going to bet Veilguard was developed on a higher budget than DD2 and it sure as hell had higher costs towards marketing. For reference, Andromeda was $100 million to make and market.
Honestly, I suspect we're going to hear about Bioware being downsized after this and perhaps the DA franchise being put on hold, if EA doesn't close Bioware outright. If this is indeed a flop as I suspect, that would make it Bioware's third flop in a row...
If the game is also on PC, how is it an exclusive?
Furthermore both Black Myth and Silent Hill 2 are only on Playstation for a limited period. Xbox versions are planned so even if we agree with your viewpoint, they're not exclusives in the first place.
The Playstation has had a poor selection this year. It only got Rise of the Ronin and Steller Blade at the beginning of the year and then Astro Bot.
The former two will be on PC next year, running far better than they ever did on Playstation, just as Black Myth runs better on PC.
@GamingSince84 It's nothing to do with the Reddit crowd. Nearly everyone in the industry and nearly every analyst is expecting Microsoft to stop producing consoles.
This is also shown in their marketing alone, focusing mostly on Game Pass and attempts to get their games on every platform and service.
I'd say Xbox is currently in its death throes. It's sad but to be expected after years of incompetent leadership. All I can say is after Xbox hardware dies, don't get a Playstation, that sucks too. Go to Nintendo Switch for the exclusives and PC for everything else.
TGS will probably be Phil announcing that Halo and Gears of War is coming to PlayStation, maybe even Nintendo lol.
@BAMozzy The game reached 3 million players. Also according to SteamDb, it sold between 674.5 k to 1.50 M.
In comparison, the "gritty and realistic" Hellblade 2 had less players and only sold between 79.7 k 133.6 k.
Hi Fi Rush was more successful and most likely turned a profit unlike the expensive multimillion tech demo of Hellblade 2. Just face the facts, getting rid off Tango was just another stupid decision of MS on a long list of stupid decisions.
I'm not sure that's true. There's other single player games on the service that are small and that includes Hellblade 2. That's a short game with little replayability.
It also had extremely low sales on PC compared to Hi Fi Rush.
Getting rid of Tango was a stupid decision of Microsoft's.
@Hexamex-Tex Many say BG3 isn't as good as BG2 too. Certainly from what I've seen of BG3, the writing is sub par in comparison and more comparable to a Marvel comic rather than say something well written like LOTR.
@HonestHick I sincerely doubt millions are asking for remasters. The games are still avaliable to play. They could remaster them and like the first one when it was remastered, it'll be "dead" online in months just like Halo 2 Remastered was.
Cyberpunk 2077 development: $400 million to make, a veteran team of devs overworking, plus funding from the Polish government. And what we got was trash.
Mass Effect Andromeda development: $50 to make, a team of depressed students and entry level workers who were laid off afterwards plus a couple of bottles of beer. We still got trash but it was a technical masterpiece compared to Cyberpunk.
(Just a retelling of a joke CD Projeckt Red fanboys use to do the opposite way around to clown on the decline of Bioware. Funny how CD Projeckt fell in a shorter time)
@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah CD Projeckt Red really need to sit down and put a sock in it. Cyberpunk on release made Mass Effect Andromeda look like a technical masterpiece. 🤣
Please, you know it wasn't overblown. I'm sorry but The Witcher 3 was nowhere near in the same state as Cyberpunk 2077 on release. Cyberpunk was a broken and glitchy mess and to dismiss all the complaints as people who had never played the game or The Witcher 3 is a bit disingenuous. You seem to forget it had a truck load of pre-orders. There's plenty of ambitious games that release in perfect playable states. See Zelda or Rockstar games. CD Projeckt Red isn't a small indie developer. The game was $400 million and even recieved funding by the Polish government. For comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 cost around the same but was perfectly playable at launch and didn't have a book's worth of game breaking bugs or game stopping glitches.
Your claim is as disingenuous as me claiming that all the positivity of the game only comes from people who have seen some cool gameplay footage of the game but never actually played it.
@GuyinPA75 Game pass is not just annoyingly retro game boy type titles and PS Plus has its issues with those type of games too. Your controller comment is spot on though. Even though I have a PlayStation controller from my PS4, it's an Xbox controller I use on PC. Xbox's controllers are just better and the new PS5 one is so inferior in design including to its PS4 predecessor.
Nah none of these games are GOTY candidates. Yakuza is too overdone at this point. Each entry will impress newcomers but for old fans, it's just more of the same with each entry, even with the turn based evolution which still isn't that improved from its predecessor.
Palworld will probably be the most successful game this year but it's an open world survival multiplayer game. They don't normally win big awards.
@Savage_Joe Nah not unacceptable, a stupid decision but Zelda had a one save file again last year and it still ended up being the best selling game of last year.
It makes even less sense in a game with a character creator but at least on PC, you'll be able to get around it just by moving the save file when you want to create a new character.
@InterceptorAlpha Then buy it on PC. The first game ran at 60 fps on PC.
I couldn't care less if Xbox or PlayStation can't run it at 60 fps. Neither did Red Dead Redemption 2 until it came to PC as you mentioned. Also Dragon's Dogma is hardly niche anymore nor is its genre.

Funny how CD Projeckt fell in a shorter time)
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Pokes Fun At Ubisoft's 'AAAA' Skull & Bones Claim
@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah CD Projeckt Red really need to sit down and put a sock in it. Cyberpunk on release made Mass Effect Andromeda look like a technical masterpiece. 🤣
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Pokes Fun At Ubisoft's 'AAAA' Skull & Bones Claim
@BanChatum You even defended it being a broken release? Lol
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Pokes Fun At Ubisoft's 'AAAA' Skull & Bones Claim
@Weapon_Wheel
Re: Major Game Maker Reportedly Questioning Xbox Support Amidst 'Falling Sales'
@GuyinPA75 Game pass is not just annoyingly retro game boy type titles and PS Plus has its issues with those type of games too. Your controller comment is spot on though. Even though I have a PlayStation controller from my PS4, it's an Xbox controller I use on PC. Xbox's controllers are just better and the new PS5 one is so inferior in design including to its PS4 predecessor.
Re: These Six Xbox Games Have Made January A Month To Remember
Nah none of these games are GOTY candidates. Yakuza is too overdone at this point. Each entry will impress newcomers but for old fans, it's just more of the same with each entry, even with the turn based evolution which still isn't that improved from its predecessor.
Palworld will probably be the most successful game this year but it's an open world survival multiplayer game. They don't normally win big awards.
Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Seems To Be Targeting 30FPS On All Platforms
@Savage_Joe Nah not unacceptable, a stupid decision but Zelda had a one save file again last year and it still ended up being the best selling game of last year.
It makes even less sense in a game with a character creator but at least on PC, you'll be able to get around it just by moving the save file when you want to create a new character.
Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Seems To Be Targeting 30FPS On All Platforms
@InterceptorAlpha Then buy it on PC. The first game ran at 60 fps on PC.
I couldn't care less if Xbox or PlayStation can't run it at 60 fps. Neither did Red Dead Redemption 2 until it came to PC as you mentioned. Also Dragon's Dogma is hardly niche anymore nor is its genre.
