Veilguard's biggest problem wasn't that it had representation, (okay maybe for some bigots), it was that it preached at people.
You can have representation, and it should be encouraged, but no one wants to be preached at. For example, that whole pronoun scene was frankly embarrassing.
My biggest issue with Veilguard was that the dialogue wheel made little to no difference and that everybody was so damn nice to each other regardless of what choices you made. They ripped out the darker tone and genuine consequence in favour of, well, I'm not sure what Veilguard was. It also came across more like one of those mobile RPGs that are a dime a dozen, albeit bundled with a narrative that wouldn't have looked out of place on a Saturday morning cartoon.
I think that would be a fair statement if Helix is delayed, however if Helix is as close to release as predicted then it won't be on par with high-end rigs, not unless it's heavily subsidised by Microsoft.
Not necessarily. It all depends on what components Helix is using. Helix certainly won't be using components that makes up the equivalent of a £2-3k+ PC if Microsoft want to keep the cost down.
For GTA 6 to run at optimum levels across the board you'd need a monster rig and Helix won't be in the same ballpark. Will Helix run GTA 6 better than the PS5 Pro? No doubt. Will Helix run GTA 6 as well as a £3k gaming PC? Not a chance.
I have yet to see one game that I’m actually excited about get canned
You seem to think your personal preference is somehow relevant. It's not.
What you perceive as a good game might not be for someone else and vice versa.
Games fail all the time, good and bad regardless. The majority of the time it's purely luck of the draw if one's project finds success with the masses.
A game that takes two years to develop and has a massive marketing push can tank as easily as a game that takes 6 years to develop, has little marketing, yet finds huge success.
All this nonsense about development time etc is just mental gymnastics used to justify games being canned and studios shut down.
Currently Microsoft are stealing from Peter to pay Paul to keep the shareholders from panicking. Nothing more.
I'm going to try and find the time to look at it this week. However, with KCD 2, Forspoken and a few other titles currently doing the rounds it's going to be difficult.
Xbox buying ABK is the best thing for gamers and the industry!
I didn't engage with the community during that period, it was so toxic. However, I did read the articles and various comments across the web and oh boy, some of the claims, like the one above, didn't age at all well.
Of course anyone with a modicum of sense and who weren't blinded by the lights and who know what kind of company Microsoft really are knew it was going to go south.
Truth of the matter is the ABK acquisition should've been blocked from the start. But alas it wasn't and so here we are...
Having only briefly sampled Game Pass a while back on my PC (and deciding I gained nothing from it), I don't really know the ins and outs of Game Pass success or failure and Microsoft are characteristically vague when discussing numbers. However, I don't believe it's a primary reason for anything. In fact I wouldn't bet against GP being the one thing propping up Xbox at the moment, if only just.
Surprised to hear the combat isn't up to par. Looked okay from the vids I watched. The traversal, like Forspoken, looks fun though and I love the overall aesthetic.
I'm off for a few days so I'll likely fire it up. I'll let you know how I get on.
He's obviously being somewhat facetious. An exaggeration of console cheerleader's view of their chosen brand and how they employ a combination of damage control and mental gymnastics to suit their skewed narrative.
Not related, but I noticed your avatar. I bought South of Midnight last week via Eneba (£23). Haven't started it yet, but after watching a few gameplay videos it very much appealed. In fact it reminded me a little of Forspoken, which I've been recently enjoying.
I don't think it'll be quite as terrible as some predict. R* have a penchant for squeezing a lot out of systems with, more often than not, surprising results.
And yet every time a rumour like this crops up it has, more often than not, come to pass in one form or another.
To quote Tayend in Trudi Canavan’s novel The Novice:
"There's always a bit of truth in each rumour, the trouble is finding out which bit"
As others have pointed out we've seen nothing of this game and the movie got canned. I think its more likely the plug will be pulled on Blade than not.
I like your Avatar, by the way. Space Channel 5 was and remains a wonderfully quirky rhythm game. SEGA Dreamcast was one of the few times I actually bought a game console at launch. It really was "the arcade in your home" platform. Still have it safely boxed away. I now play Dreamcast games via my emulation tower - all in glorious HD.
SoD 1&2 are great games. Clunky to be sure, but bags of fun. I've been very much looking forward to SoD 3 and was confident that the delay was just that, a delay. Seems my confidence was ill-placed.
I still have a boxed copy of Turok 2 on PC, always enjoyed it and the music was superb. Picked up both the Turok 1&2 remasters and wasn't disappointed.
Quietly optimistic about this latest entry, although Turok should only be in 1st person so I'm not sure about the mix of 3rd and 1st person perspectives on the fly. Will have to see how it pans out.
DF are no doubt correct, but that's fine. I'll still fully intend to pick up GTA 6 for the X then double dip when it arrives on PC somewhere down the line.
Yes I agree the community is generally okay, but I cannot get on with the site's constantly shifting politics based on what's popular and/or frowned upon at any given moment at the time...
For example: EG's Kingdome Deliverance 2 review was truly shocking. Opinions and all, but it was wholly unprofessional and smacked of EG's distaste of Warhorse as a developer as opposed to basing an opinion on the game itself. And don't get me started on the childish way in which they dealt with Hogwarts.
EG likes to think of itself as a voice of reason and maturity, but I am afraid they are anything but. In fact I would argue they're worse because they hide behind a veneer of altruism while being no better than anyone else with a platform to air their views.
I upgraded here and there last year, (got a new casing as well, one where you can see the water-cooler, which combined with the custom lighting looks pretty funky), just as prices were moving upward. I could still afford it now, but that's not the point. The market is spiraling out of control with no sign of relief on the horizon.
I do prefer higher performance metrics, hence the monster rig, but am happy to make sacrifices where consoles are concerned. Of course when GTA 6 drops on PC I will double dip.
The X is a very competent console, was running Forza Horizon 4 through it just the other day, (almost missed the boat when I bought it for my PC given the delisting, same with FM7), and I'm looking forward to seeing how GTA 6 fairs on it.
I do like the Play Anywhere feature, pity that so few top tier games make their way onto it.
Yep, this is the mountain Microsoft face. There is absolutely no chance on this earth that Helix will have mass market appeal and as such it won't last before Nadella pulls the plug.
Happy to be proven wrong, but I see a future where the console market will, once again, be home to just Sony and Nintendo.
All seems a bit rich complaining about the rising cost of components when parent company Microsoft are one of the biggest spenders on AI centric data centres. The whole thing reeks of hypocrisy
Very true. I think the AI fever dream has taken over these company's mindsets so deeply they can no longer see the wood for the trees.
Which only might amount to just Windows Store, which is naff - and WS really is quite naff.
Nothing has been officially confirmed regarding Steam and/or Epic Store.
At this rate you may as well save a bit more and just build a custom gaming PC. Hardly seems worth paying premium prices for a game console that pales in comparison. 🤷
I've not been on Eurogamer in years. Their political choices and often hypocritical stances from one game to the next do not sit well with me.
They also seem to change editors more than the direction of the wind, which no doubt doesn't help.
At the end of the day all that really matters is that people will get to enjoy the experience of GTA 6 on their platform of choice. Everything else is for the birds.
IGN were after clicks and Microsoft took the bait. The only one really at fault here are, once again, Microsoft.

Nowt wrong with that. In fact that could actually save the Xbox brand long term.
A range of Xbox branded PCs that accommodate people's needs and wants as well as their wallets.
