Two OG Xbox Games With 'Handheld' Tag Could Hint At PC Backwards Compatibility 1

All eyes are on Xbox this week as we draw closer to what is being talked up as a potential 'bloodbath' for Xbox Game Studios.

Not quite the sentiment we expected from Xbox's 25th anniversary, but amid all the noise surrounding layoffs and studio closures, we may have stumbled across a hint at Xbox's plans for backwards compatibility on PC.

The hint comes from Reddit user, Narrow_Leak2452, who earlier this year posted about an "invisible Xbox Handheld" tag appearing on five console-only titles, three of which have since arrived on Xbox PC.

Interestingly, the Redditor claims that two original Xbox titles, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy now have that same invisible "Xbox Handheld" tag attached to them.

It's all a bit vague, we'll admit, and in no way a confirmation that either game will become playable through the Xbox PC app, but it's worth pondering, especially if we consider what Xbox's VP of Next Generation Jason Ronald had to say at GDC earlier this year.

Back in March, Ronald teased the revival of Microsoft's beloved backwards compatibility programme, saying the preservation team will find "entirely new ways" to play iconic games from the past. Specifically, that it would happen "as part of our 25th anniversary later this year".

Perhaps this offers a glimpse at what the backwards compatibility team has been working on. I mean, it would certainly make sense to see legacy Xbox titles arrive on Xbox PC, and their older hardware requirements should make them a natural fit for Xbox handheld devices.

Of course, this is all speculative, but it feeds into my Blinx: The Time Sweeper agenda. If there's even the slightest chance of seeing the cat resurrected in any shape or form, you can bet I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for it.

Which legacy titles would you like to see appear on the Xbox PC app? Let us know your picks in the comments!
