Xbox Announces 'Record' Sales For GTA 6 In Response To New Report

Microsoft and Xbox aren't typically great at revealing sales information for their hardware and games these days, but after just a few days of pre-orders, we already know that GTA 6 has achieved "record" sales across Xbox Series X and S.

The specifics haven't been revealed yet, but a statement was issued to Windows Central in response to a report that Xbox was being outsold 8:1 compared to PS5 - specifically amongst readers of IGN alone.

Here's the statement, along with the original report below:

Windows Central can confirm that we’ve received a statement from an Xbox spokesperson on this matter: “This doesn’t represent pre-order data. We’ve had record orders. People should wait for real data and not clicks on affiliate links."

Of course, it's still very likely that GTA 6 is being outsold on PS5 compared to Xbox — it's just a fact that Sony has sold more consoles this generation than Microsoft has — but IGN's findings are obviously just based on their own community. To be honest, it feels like the Xbox statement isn't taking that bit into account.

None of this really matters at the end of the day. GTA 6 is going to sell incredibly well across PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and even if the 8:1 ratio applies beyond IGN, it'll still surely be the best-selling Xbox game of 2026.
