Re: Digital Foundry Explores Why Some Games 'Run Better' On PS5 Than Xbox Series X

dskatter

@Th3_Highlander No guilt intended! I just couldn’t wrap my brain around the reason you left is all. It sucks having your platform of choice get nitpicked, but DF does their job and USUALLY impartially. Usually. Obviously no one can be completely objective, and fanboyism may soak thru a bit.

Just remember, if you limit yourself to only the stuff you want to hear, that’s all you’ll end up with! Be well!

Re: LEGO Horizon Adventures Dev Gives Non-Answer For Lack Of Xbox Version

dskatter

@Bobobiwan Why would they? Sony is in a position of strength here, like it or not. MS is obviously setting up for the likely-inevitable-but-not-guaranteed ending of the XBox console lineup next generation and is making sure there’s a demand for their titles.

Sony has no need to reciprocate on the XBox side. PC, sure. But why would they move even a few games outside of The Show (which they were forced to do by the MLB) to XBox when their current strategy is clearly working?

Re: Digital Foundry Explores Why Some Games 'Run Better' On PS5 Than Xbox Series X

@OldGamer999 as far as quick resume goes…I see the value, but I prefer the PS4/5 rest mode. Sure it’s limited to only one game at a time…but it works for ANY game.

I’m playing FF13 via backwards compatibility on my series X and…no quick resume. If my series x shuts down, gotta start from scratch.

If that were running on my PS4/5 (which it can’t, since it’s a PS3 game, but still!) I could drop it into rest mode and come back.

Just a minor thing for me, but it does irk!

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Adds 120FPS On Xbox, Dawntrail DLC Launches To 'Mixed' Reception

dskatter

They still haven’t fixed the overzealous chat filtering, so that automatically means my PS5 is the only way I’ll play.

Once they fix that, I might mess around with the XBox version. Till then, I feel sorry for gamers who play with friends and don’t want words like “knight” and “raids” censored.

That said, I’m enjoying the expansion. Pictomancer and Viper are fun to play, and I like the (so far, anyway) lower stakes goals. It’s hard to top Endwalker and comparing it to Dawntrail is a tiny bit unfair since EW was the end of a gigantic storyline and DT is the start of a new one.

Re: Talking Point: What's Been The High Point Of The Xbox Series X|S Generation So Far?

dskatter

@MikeOrator Never had one in my life, and I’ve had darn near all the systems since the Atari 2600! NES, Genesis, N64 and Dreamcast, PS1-5, GameCube, Wii U, Switch…

Never an XBox though. Had a grudge against XBox when I was younger, both because I was a Mac user and because MS bought Bungie. Jerks took Halo for their exclusive after it was promoted for Mac! Betrayal!

Guess I’m mellowing in my old age now!

Re: Talking Point: What's Been The High Point Of The Xbox Series X|S Generation So Far?

dskatter

@MikeOrator That’s been my experience so far. The performance difference is negligible at best, with very few exceptions. Tested a few games on game pass while I had it compared to my PS5 versions and felt no difference other the cheaper-feeling XBox controller.

Given a choice, I go for the PS5 version unless there’s some compelling reason. One on sale when one isn’t, or other reasons. For example, the Cyberpunk complete edition: the PS5 version has the base game on disc and a download code included for the DLC. The Series X version has the full game including Phantom Liberty DLC included on disc. I respect that VERY much.

It’s weird straddling both platforms now.

Re: Talking Point: What's Been The High Point Of The Xbox Series X|S Generation So Far?

A solid C.

I’m a rather new owner of a Series X, and while it’s a good console…I much prefer the PS5 or Switch. Just more and varied games.

I don’t HATE my XBox. I’ve been playing the heck out of FF13 via backwards compatibility, for example. But I could just as easily play it on my PS3 as well.

I’m not a racing fan, so I don’t care about Forza. Never been a Bethesda fan but Starfield isn’t bad. Never played the Halo series so I’ll be doing that.

There’s just not a lot of…DRAW to the XBox for me. I mostly got one so I could have full access to all the consoles and games. Heck, I’ve picked up about twenty disc based games, most of them used and most of those being XBox One native games like Sunset Overdrive and Dead Rising 3. Plus a few cheap multi platform games I never got around to on PS.

So I’ll rate the Switch a solid A, the PS5 a B+, and XBox a C for this (and last, with the Switch in there) generation.

It may sound like I’m hating on it, but I’m genuinely trying not to. I’ve always had a major dislike of MS, and I fought that off to buy my series X in the first place, I might add!

I will say that I hate Smart Delivery, though. Hate. The whole point of having a physical game for me is having the game and I’d much rather have the Series X version on disc than have to download 40-60 GB because it’s the XBox one version.

Mini rant over.

Re: Microsoft Makes Statement On The Xbox Delay For Black Myth: Wukong

dskatter

@evan23 it’s a bit sad, really. I got my Series X a couple months ago (my first Xbox!) but I’m FAR more invested in my PS5 and Switch. That said, I have bought 23 disc based games for it (most used) and think it’s a nice console. Do I much prefer PS 4/5? Absolutely, but I’m willing to admit MS did a good job on this hardware in general.

Amusingly my Series X’s main function for me right now is as a FF13 trilogy backwards compatible machine. MS gets props from me as being the only console manufacturer that lets games like FF13 and the original Assassin’s Creed run on it. sighs at the old PS3 copies of these games I’ll probably never launch again

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 15-16)

dskatter

Final Fantasy 13 via BC on my series X.

Trying to get through it before Dawntrail launches for FF14! Which I will be playing on PS5, of course, due to the utterly idiotic over-censoring of in-game chat on the XBox side that, to my knowledge, STILL has not been addressed or even acknoweldged by Squeenix or MS.

Re: DOOM: The Dark Ages Confirmed As A Day One PS5 Release In 2025

dskatter

@TakeItEasy After telling the regulators during the ActiBlizz purchase that they wouldn’t keep established cross-platform games from going to other platforms, they’d look fairly silly if they kept Doom off of PS. Same with CoD and the like.

Either way, I own a PS5, Switch and Series X so I’m good no matter what!

Re: Xbox Games Showcase 2024: Date, Start Times, Rumours, Leaks & More

dskatter

@ValentineMeikin “Of course, you won’t be able to interact with other players without having really silly censorship and words like ‘knight’ and ‘raids’ being X’d out, but you can still play it on XBox!”

…I hope MS and Squeenix get their act together. I feel sorry for my friends who play on XBox, it’s a crapshow right now communication-wise.

Re: Xbox 'Cross-Gen Face-Off' Shows The Benefits Of Series S Ownership

dskatter

The mere lack of an optical drive makes the S a no go for me. I’m one of those dinosaurs who still prefers his games on disc, and the moment we go to all-digital machines is the moment I FINALLY focus on my extensive backlog of games.

…part of me almost hopes it happens sooner so I can justify focusing on them quicker.

Re: Pick One: What Was Your Favourite Xbox Game Pass Game In May 2024?

dskatter

@DoubleDog So…because someone isn’t impressed with the games, they’re automatically somehow a PS troll?

That’s kind of a sad viewpoint. PS fans complain every month about PS Plus, and I sincerely doubt it’s “X-Bots hurr” who are doing said complaining.

Xbox fans are allowed to (and DO) complain/and be dissatisfied as well.

Re: DOOM: The Dark Ages To Be Announced At Xbox's Showcase, Claims New 'Exclusive'

dskatter

@carlos82 @Gamer_X Exactly. Pretending that it isn’t surprising that a MS-bought existing property doesn’t end up being exclusive is disingenuous at best. As someone who has been a PS guy since day one and just recently dipped their toes into the Series X as their first Xbox, I’m happy to see games hit both sides. (Though I’ll mostly buy those games on PS for consistency’s sake except when discounts are involved. I AM still primarily a PlayStation guy! )

Now MS just needs to step up the game a bit if they’re going to do exclusives at all going forward. Hellblade 2 is a good start, I have 1 for PS and just replayed the first one on Gamepass as well.

Re: Square Enix To Include Xbox As Part Of 'Aggressive' New Multiplatform Strategy

dskatter

@Kooky_Geezer MS made it clear for years that Japan wasn’t their target audience. Late launches, barely any promotion… Unsurprising that Squeenix didn’t go all in for quite a while. Now that they are, I’m sadly unsurprised by the “too little too late” reaction from some folks.

If you don’t reward good behavior/games with your dollars, why should they even bother to release anything? Not attacking you personally, please don’t get me wrong. You’re just the first comment I saw here with this opinion.
