@BacklogBrad they may have survived on the back of Forza, Halo and Gears for 15+ years but the most recent entries in all 3 of those IP's are nowhere near the standard of the games that propelled them to the top. Xbox are losing ground everywhere to PlayStation and throwing money at the problem, e.g. buying Activitision, is not going to solve it and I think the backlash from people thinking CoD would stop being multiplatform showed them that having exclusivity on games wont help them in the long run either. So yes, while they have been propped up by Forza, Halo and Gears, that is no longer the case and they can't depend on that anymore
Moves like this makes perfect sense. The install base of PlayStation is massive compared to that of Xbox and it's growing. Microsoft have realised this and realised they can't change it now. They have games PlayStation owners want and they know PlayStation owners wont buy an Xbox for a small of exclusive games. Releasing multiplatform going forward means they can probably double, triple or even quadruple software sales by tapping into the Playstation market. It could spark the beginning of the end of Xbox as a console manufacturer (that would be bad for the industry) but they're profit will certainly get a massive boost as a game publisher instead. Xbox only players may not like this, but they need to remember regardless of any messages saying gamers are important to Microsoft, their sole aim is to make profit and you can guarantee they will do whatever is necessary to make that profit regardless of your feelings.
I had it on physical on the Xbox one, but sold it when I got PS5 in 2022. I bought Series X back in May and got the ultimate edition a couple of weeks after they messaged me saying I could buy it for £8.50 because I'd previously bought DLC for it. They did the same with Forza 7
And the FTC didn't see this coming when they allowed the merger to proceed?? Even a blind man could see it was coming. No good complaining about it after you had a hand in allowing it to happen. Whatever lies Xbox told in their appeals, gamers knew it was all B.S, but as usual money talks.
@Tecinthehead and you haven't realised that that is the final aim yet???? Xbox simply can't compete with PlayStation on hardware sales and they've finally realised it, what better way to make money. The PS5 install base is more than double that of Xbox it makes absolute perfect sense for them to do this.
As an owner past and present of all PlayStation and Xbox consoles I'm certainly not a fanboy to either side, but Phil is wrong here and quite hypocritical. While Sony have employed certain tactics using money to get timed exclusivity here and there, you know what I find a more slimy tactic: paying $60 billion dollars to buy IP's because the teams you already have, have let their IP's stagnate and you can't really come up with any new fresh ideas that can sell your consoles. Maybe it's just me but buying success rather than making it yourself and then being critical of others for splashing the cash is just a tad childish and pathetic really.
Phil Spencer: we wont do slimy platform things
Also Phil Spencer: let's buy up the best developers so they make our platform better.
I started way back in 2004 with the OG Xbox simply because of Halo. I had PS2 at the time and was (to my own grown up disappointment) a fanboy. That was until a friend nagged and nagged and nagged me to go and play Halo after school. i did and I've had every Xbox and PlayStation released since. Can't choose between them as there are exclusives games on both consoles I love to play.
So he's going to continue to force developers to develop an inferior version of their product just to boost MS profits? Yeah because that's a brilliant way to get developers to work with you.
I'd rather have a broader choice of new games that are not being hampered by development teams having to also make an inferior version of their new game than to be able to go back to games I've played, but hey that's just me
In my opinion it is. Everything about it just worked. The graphics, the story, the gameplay, the multiplayer everything. 343 just haven't been able to match what Bungie did with the Halo 3. To be honest, even Bungies own Reach couldn't match 3
@Jaxx420 but can you imagine how good that initial console would be though lol? They could cancel out the shortcomings of each other and build a beast of a machine
@Royalblues i only ignored the Insomniac games because in all honesty I forgot about them. I'm against both sides of this current publisher buying battle. All it does is stop people having a choice. I think PlayStation and Xbox need to get together and just make a joint console
This from the same company buying one of the biggest publishers and already owns Bethesda. PlayStation as re guilty of this too. Just stop making exclusives if you want to break down barriers between consoles
I don't condone the abuse he received at all but isn't it ironic that he says play what you want where you want when the company he works for has just done a deal to buy Activision and also Bethesda and others meaning we can't play what we want where want. I know Sony do the same the thing as well so if the gaming companies are going to make gamers choose where they play the games then you'll get alway gets idiots maling rivalries

Still happy they bought Activision simply to own CoD???? One of the worst decisions for gamers ever 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Forget Blur, I'd like PGR 3. I know it's never going to happen, but I can dream.

Just another way for them to make from consumers. By ensuring you need licensed products they ensure they always get a slice of your money. Pathetic.
