Hello.
I notice that the Series X fan spin for about 2 minutes after you shut it off.

Is it to cool the systen after when it’s turned off?

In that case i have a question, it was something wrong outside in the neighborhood so i have lost the power two times this weekend, one hour powerloss twice, then the console cant cool itself when that happens,

does the components get too hot that way?
Happen twice while i played games.

Happy for some information about this.

Edit:

I checked the console now with a lazer tempgun after a few hours gameplay, 55c/131f on most trough the top ventilation holes, then i turned it off,

Waited 2 minutes until the fan stopped and then it was 51c/123.8F so the cooling fan seems to lower the temp by 4c.

I dont know if i hit the hottest part while using lazer temp gun trough the holes on top.. If it’s "only" 55c/131F at most it should be just fine without spinning for 2 minutes after shutdown?

Best Regards Ray.

I suspect it's to reach a target idle temperature with the fans running slow and quiet. And if you lose power, the heat source that is the APU will stop running, stop generating heat, and simply sitting with the fan off would still cool, just slower than if the fan kept running. That assumes your room is less than 200 degrees Fahrenheit, but I like to hope people have air conditioning, y'know? Choosing power saver mode might stop it from running the fan after it turns off but I have a classic Xbone so I don't know. A temp gun on the exterior isn't nearly as telling as having the APU's temperature, but I don't think you can see that in the Xbox system software.

I have it in powersave mode, to avoid that it’s always on in sleep, it still running the fan 2 min after it’s turned off.

It seems to be very open from the top, so i dont know what i messure down there

Question is why do it run fans for 2 minutes after it’s shutting down, what is the process for that, like you saying when the power cuts it wont be any hotter, and 131f is not that hot so it should not need extra cooling after it’s turned off right?

It’s winter here and the room temp is about 21-22C/71.6F

I'm not certain why the fan runs for 2 minutes after shutdown in power saver mode, but yeah, I would not worry if the power cut off because it will not be able to get hotter if it isn't running. Also make sure the bottom isn't sitting on carpet, reviews have said the Series X sucks in air from the bottom, and runs coolest when it's on a flat surface.

Yes sure one must place it on hard surface.
I just readed that the one x does the same, and if you remove automaticly console update it turns off right away and so does the fan

1X didn't run the fans 24/7 in instant-on mode. The body of the console stayed permanently fairly warm while in instant-on though.

The Series X seems to run the fan 24/7 in instant-on, though stays cool. I also changed to eco mode, grudgingly to avoid that. I'm hoping they change that at some point.

The fan runs to cool down the potentially very hot components after you power off. Like with the HID lamps in DLP projectors, sudden power drop stopping airflow could be undesirable, however, unlike the HID lamps in DLP projectors, we're not talking about thin glass heated to 500 degrees suddenly losing cooling, so it's mostly precautionary.
