Poll: Now That The Dust Has Settled, Which Xbox Game Pass Tier Are You Subscribed To?

For now I've cancelled, but I'll shell out a month of Essential to finish up Anthem before it's death.

I'm still with Ultimate, but only because I am stacked until June 2027. Were I paying monthly, I would have cancelled.

Perhaps there should have been an option to tick for 'Stacked', and another for 'I would cancel if I could'... 😉

Still on Ultimate. I still get a lot of value out of it even when I have to start paying $30, which will be months from now.

I consider myself the ultimate gamer so you can guess my tier😉

Cancelled. I went from Ultimate to zilch. I was playing Silksong on GP, but I saved myself 10 bucks by buying it outright.

Side note: the value of Silksong is INSANE

I'm on Core or Essential for now but I will probably just cancel when its finished early next year.

Essential at the moment just for multi-player. Once we move on from the games we're playing will get canceled until needed again

Cancelled it. Can't spend $360 a year on game rentals that I don't own.

I concluded that I can't justify it as I don't spend enough time playing Gamepass games.
I also accidentally let my playstation plus sub expire and have decided not to continue that either...
Will then spend the money buying the games outright

Still with ultimate until april 2028, and thanks to eu laws the price has stayed the same here where i am at 18 per month so i am happy to keep ultimate beyond 2028 too.

I'm still with Ultimate, which is still by far the best subscription in the industry. Unfortunately, it's now practically a luxury product; that fantasy of day-one games is no longer for everyone, and if at any point I'm short on cash, I'll have to cancel.

Ultimate I'm used to it since day 1 i like all my games all the time on all my gadgets.

Still on Ultimate, I’m stacked until 2027. And given the number of pro‑PlayStation people in the comments, I don’t believe the cancellation figures at all — they must be much lower.

It’s still a very good plan, though less than before of course. But once my subscription ends, I’ll probably switch to PC Game Pass.

I’m subscribed on Ultimate until May but I’ve cancelled my renewal for the period beyond that. 50%+ price hike means it’s no longer the great value product it once was. Since cancelling I’ve spent about £80 (mainly from Reward Points) to purchase the games I want to keep and own.

Strangely, I’m really looking forward to a break from GP as my backlog has become absolutely ridiculous.

My subscription ends the day after Christmas and I'm just going to let it lapse. I have plenty to play for now without it.

I’ve still got it stacked through June 2027. But honestly, if the games still stay as stacked as they are now, I’d probably still be sticking to Ultimate at $30 a month anyway. It’s been awesome this year. Let’s hope that continues!

Wow a lot more people cancelled than I would have expected on a site like this. So according to these results, if MS lost 50% of subs but increased prices by 50%, that’s a 25% revenue drop.

I might still get GPU for a month or two every year but I’ve gone back to buying indies on sale on Switch and really enjoying it. It’s more expensive but I’m playing exactly what I want instead of feeling pressure to try the newly added mediocre AA game of the week.

The few people I know with an Xbox either cancelled or downgraded all the way to Essential. Even if you only own an Xbox and aren't buying games on other Platforms, between the price hikes and limited time in a day, I'd still think it's not worth it.

I have my ultimate running out in 2 weeks. I picked up 12 months of Xbox Gamepass Core for $60 from Best Buy. That'll start end of November. Have to be careful or else it'll automatically convert to GPU for like 2-3 months

Im at premium but considering going back to ultimate for the winter.

I cancelled. The price is insane here in Canada; $430 a year. That's the price of a new console.

I haven’t had GamePass for months. But I also rarely touch my Series X these days, S2 and PS5 are my main focus till Forza Horizon 6 comes out.

I’m very surprised at the amount of people who have cancelled. I think it’s still a fantastic service, yes the recent price hike isn’t great but I’m always trying out most games that are added to the service and I make the most of the rewards points which gives big bonuses being a Ultimate member. I still only pay £12.99 for GPU with loaded.com but I’m expecting the price to rise eventually.

I have Ultimate tier. I still think it's great value for The amount of games you get, Plus day and date releases is amazing..

There is definitely a theme here. I think Microsoft will see more short term subs when there are a batch of new games available in the same month or two, but far fewer long term subs. Mine is stacked until December 2026 but I'll let it lapse and probably stick to PC and Steam sales.

Gamepass is still good value when compared to other subscription services but the key thing is time. If you've got lots of time to play games then you're golden. I think most adults who are post college/university, won't find value in the new pricing, especially if they have other subs for their family ie Netflix/Disney etc.

Ultimate. it's still a good deal for me, considering the games i like to play.

Cancelled. Can't justify paying $30 a month to play 3 games a year. I might fire up Essential eventually since I need it to play Sea of Thieves online, but I bought a new laptop recently and may just make the permanent switch to PC gaming going forward, so it might not be necessary since PC doesn't charge for online play.

Game Pass Ultimate of course. Nov 18th is going to really add some value to it. I frequently play Fortnite with my wife and won't have to worry about the passes or vbucks anymore.

You say there are a number of 'pro-PlayStation' people voting as evidenced by the comments, and yet the only person to mention PlayStation, other than yourself, states that they have let their PlayStation sub lapse too, which is hardly a pro-PlayStation comment.

Maybe, just maybe, people really are un-subbing from Game Pass. Just maybe the poll speaks the truth. Maybe people are not prepared to pay the increased prices for Game Pass.

I know you fully support Microsoft, and that is absolutely fine, but you have to accept that many people are fed up with the direction Microsoft are taking, and the associated costs. You may well be right, in that everything will turn out perfectly well, but that does not mean that anyone cancelling their Game Pass subscription, or who is being critical of Microsoft, are simply pro-PlayStation...

I canceled. I was using rewards but decided to just use my last points on dying light the beast. Also, i wasnt using it to is fullest. Rarely played any games on the catalog, or even played multiplayer.

Eh, kept Ultimate and dropped Disney+. Easy choice.

Subscription ran out today. Done. Started in on PS5 physical backlog purchased on the cheap - older "big" games like infinite wealth, avatar, cyberpunk.

Loaded are still doing multi month bundles that work out at £10 a month, so I've stacked a bit and will be good for a while. Will likely drop down to premium after that.

I dropped down a tier to Premium. I'm not paying £23 a month for game pass.

And for some reason I've only been charged £1 per month now twice in a row for Premium. I'm not complaining.

My son uses it and I’ve started using it more lately so for now I’m staying ultimate.but $40 a month is a lot of money. The minute I don’t feel like I’m using it enough I’ll probably bail.

I stacked for 2 years via Loaded (old CDKeys). I went for 2 years in case it went up again. For what I paid, it works out to about £13 month.

Damn nearly half of respondents cancelled. And these are the fanboys! This isn’t going to end well for MS is it

I got a year of Ultimate from Loaded for £117, so I'm good until about this time next year. I might see if I can pick up another year or two on the cheap. My kids and I all get use out of the sub so it's a family expense and even though its gone through the roof I'll still keep it going

I’ve dropped to premium now. I’m just going to sub monthly at the minute. Probably wait until there’s a good few games I want on ultimate then sub that for a month, assuming I can find cheap deals at the time.

And if Sony increases the prices by a similar amount I would drop from extra there.

Xbox has completely ruined everything with their latest decisions. I’ve been a loyal Xbox player for decades but enough is enough. I didn’t renew my Game Pass subscription and I’m only keeping my Xbox for my existing library. I buy new games on the Switch 2 now.

I cancelled earlier in the year when the writing was already on the wall. I bought both Halls of Torment and Ball X Pit for less than a month of ultimate, and I own them....

Until they get delisted or some other MS nonsense.

I cancelled my monthly subscription when it hit 20€... I still add a month once in a while with off market codes for cheap and immediately cancel the subscription (quite boring that Microsoft does not allow for single use without subscribing).

In September, I quit Game Pass to focus on my collection; but, my wife gave me an Ultimate 3-month code for birthday that I redeemed to play Visions of Mana.

When it expires, I’ll move to Essential while we complete various coop games with my brother. After that, I’ll stop spending money on Xbox.

I dropped to Premium. I’m retiring in January so I’ve had a cull of subscriptions. The ‘big releases’ on Ultimate this year haven’t impressed me enough to keep it, especially at the new price, although that may change.

Personally I'll switch to Essential, my backlog is way too large to care about new releases on GamePass.

But regarding the GamePass price increase, people should compare the price plans to other subscription services (especially ad-free) like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max and of course PS Plus and see how GamePass compares. I was shocked to see Netflix Premium costing 20 Euros per month.

Still have ultimate, Games like outer worlds/cod for me are a 1 and done sort of thing so it makes sense for me. Games that I want for my collection I buy. I do like having access to an entire library of games in case I'm bored and want to try something different. I normally play between 4 and 8 game pass games a month so.

@darksoul77 Yeah I'd use a similar amount of games as you a month on gamepass so there's definitely value for me and I take full advantage of the rewards system which got a huge bump up!
No to mention I'm in Europe and our beautiful laws denied Microsoft from bumping up the price for the time being at least ha😉✌️

@Fiendish-Beaver I'm not saying the opposite, I was one of the first to express disagreement with the price hike, even if they added some extra value in return. The issue isn't so much the price increase itself, but how the offer is structured, overloading Game Pass ultimate with services that not all players will use (Fortnite Crew, better xCloud, Ubisoft Classics, etc.). They should have offered basic plans with an add-on system where you choose what you want and only pay for what you actually use.

As for the 40% cancellation rate, even though I know there were unsubscribes, if it really were 40%, Xbox would have backtracked. Let's be realistic. You can't confuse the small media bubble of video games with actual reality.

People are stacked, parents will only realise over the next few months when the check bank payments etc.

I don’t think enough will cancel to make MS reconsider- hopefully though it gives them warning that it’s getting to a limit of what people can tolerate. Plus the people like me who have dropped to premium are essentially giving them the same monthly fee.

And I can’t see how they could reconsider, they have deals in place with /fortnite so any backtracking would cost them.

For me the bigger shame is the way Xbox is heading that it’s gone from being the cheapest best deal in gaming, to actually well is it?! And then next gen premium console.

Cancelled it and probably won't be back didn't really use it enough to justify the price hike. I don't care about the Fortnite crap they added and i own most Ubisoft games i want so none of the extra stuff they're bundled in is of any interest to me personally.

Your right it was undeniable that gamepass was the best deal in gaming but it hasn't resulted in more console sales or a big bump in subs so it wasn't working for them!
No point in having a great deal that the vast majority don't want because they are on playstation probably?

No apparently now it's going to be this super powered PC console hybrid that will be vastly more powerful than the next playstation that would have to cost a bundle!
They are constantly changing strategy to get people on there consoles or gamepass!
We got a great ride with cheap gamepass for years now it's being sold at around about what it's worth tbh!

I doubt it’s a EU thing. I live in Sweden (which are a part of the EU), and the price went up here…. I went from years with Ultimate to PC Gamepass and sold my Series X. A shame, really. I do miss the Series X though (I/we have a Switch 2 and PS5 Pro as well, but i would honestly rather play on the series x instead of the PS5 Pro). That price hike was a digital spit in the face to be honest. But I’ll keep playing gamepass on my gaming rig, i guess.

That’s the problem, the S sold really well. So how do you take those with you to a premium console? Or those that bought it as a second console

@PsBoxSwitchOwner Maybe they are hoping the hardcore tech gamers and also people on YouTube or whatever social media who's content is gaming they will pick the strongest machine most likely and maybe get exposure of the console and it's power through that.
I'd be very surprised if gamepass ever became so expensive in the future but you never know I suppose??
I mean if next gen goes the way of this gen with the prices rising for the consoles after nearly 6 years instead of going down they will have a tough job selling that machine at all even to a hardcore Xbox fan!
I wouldn't ever be comfortable spending that amount of money on a console for just myself out of principal more than anything!
But people spend thousands on a new version of a phone every year with little to no difference in specs so God knows haha!

Places like Shopto are still selling 3 months of Ultimate for about £34, so I’m paid up until December 2026. There’s some big games dropping next year so wanted to remain on GPU. After Dec ‘26 I’m not sure what I’ll do 🤔

I’ve cancelled my Ultimate GP. Can I afford it? Yes. Do I think it’s great value for money for me now? No. So it’s gone and I’m spending money on games I want to keep, mostly on Switch 2 now.

I was GP ultimate since 2018, but I've cancelled. I'll sub to PC GP here and there if there's a few great games I can smash off in a month, but ultimate is history for me.

@TrevorP86 why? It was definitely worth it to start, then it increased and most of us were borderline ok with it, but on the fence. Then this recent insane jacking it another 50%, I doubt gamepass exists in a year because the sub base tanked.

I said years ago this was coming. Game pass is incredibly flawed and unsustainable business model and it would be $40-$50 month in few years.

@Gabrie If Microsoft offered 12 month plan for Ultimate (which they should have LONG time ago) say like $200 - $220. It would been smartest move.

Willing bet lot this backlash going on been heck lot less.

No poll option for those who still have time on Ultimate stacked up via the old Gold-to-Ultimate conversion offer. Mine expires in early March next year and I’ll have to make a decision then on whether I’ll renew at the new, less generous conversion rate or downgrade to essential. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do.

I don't believe half of the poll numbers that say they outright canceled, for that reason alone. They just gave up on playing any of their online games? I don't buy it.

I'm at Ultimate until at least April. I'm disappointed with the price hike....but I'm also still very happy with the product. We'll see what the library and future release window looks like come April. Perhaps I'll go back to just buying single games when they go on sale. Maybe I'll take a look and see there's still value. For now, I'm really enjoying the subscription. I've gamed more in 2025 than I have in since the early days of the Switch.

I may move forward with Ultimate by jumping in month by month. I already do this with many of the streaming platforms. If I don't see any content I'm interested in coming out, I discontinue them until I'm interested again or have more time. I might end up doing that with Ultimate.

Ultimate. I've always been on Ultimate and shall remain on Ultimate tier for years to come.

@PushinPetunias Ultimate has been worth it the whole time. It was cheap as hell. The price has gone up over the years and so have the offerings. People feel entitled. That why people mention "50%" increase rather than $10 increase — because $10 is a pittance. We are on a forum discussing videogames, for Christ's sake, not the price of bread.

People also conveniently leave out rewards points, which with legitimate use (no funny business) you could not ever have paid for Game Pass and have that continue for the next few years.

I was unsubscribed within 5 minutes of hearing about the price increase.
