Earlier this week, the folks at Larian Studios quietly dropped a free Xbox Series X and Series S upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2, but gave us no details whatsoever on what had been added to this new version.

We're still somewhat in the dark about the upgrade as things stand, but new footage reveals how Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now a 60FPS game on both Xbox Series X and Series S, compared to the previous 30FPS restriction. The visual quality also appears to have been enhanced, but we'll need to wait for Digital Foundry to share the specifics on that.

Here's a look at the Xbox Series X and Series S versions, courtesy of SkyCaptin5 and The Games Tester on YouTube:

While most players seem to be enjoying their time with this new Xbox upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 so far, it should be noted that a few grumbles have cropped up as well.

The biggest one relates to how Xbox Series and Xbox One players apparently can't play online together anymore, as they get a notification telling them the new version is incompatible:

We've also seen pockets of people suggesting the game still suffers from frame drops on Xbox Series X|S, although others have advised it's playing flawlessly for them.

For the most part, it sounds as though this is a great upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2, but we'd definitely like to see a resolution for the Xbox Series and Xbox One problem — being an Xbox Smart Delivery title, the game currently forces you to upgrade to the new version on modern consoles. Perhaps they could make it an optional thing instead?
