With Xbox announcing an overhaul to Game Pass today which involves new tiers and prices, there's inevitably been a change to the conversion rates that apply when you jump from one tier of the service to another.
These conversion rates have often proved popular as a method for buying cheap memberships and converting to a higher tier, but the ratios are pretty stingy these days compared to what they used to be!
So, as of today (October 1st), Xbox says that the following will apply when converting up to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate:
When you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we'll convert any prepaid time you have on Xbox Game Pass or EA Play subscriptions and apply it toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at the current conversion ratio, up to a maximum of 36 months.
- Xbox Game Pass Essential conversion percentage: 40% of your remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Essential will convert to 36 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
- PC Game Pass conversion percentage: 65% of your remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of PC Game Pass will convert to 59 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
- Xbox Game Pass Premium and Game Pass for Console conversion ratio: 55% of your remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Premium or Game Pass for Console will convert to 50 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
- EA Play conversion percentage: 20% of your remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of EA Play will convert to 18 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.
Meanwhile, if you're upgrading to the new Xbox Game Pass Premium tier (formerly known as Xbox Game Pass Standard), Xbox is advising that any Game Pass Essential time you have will be converted at a ratio of 3:2.
Game Pass Essential, if you haven't been keeping track, is the new name for Game Pass Core. Yes, it's a bit confusing!
When you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Premium, we'll convert any prepaid time you have on Xbox Game Pass Essential and apply it toward Xbox Game Pass Premium at the current conversion ratio, up to a maximum of 13 months.
- Xbox Game Pass Essential conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Premium time at a ratio of 3:2 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Essential will convert to 60 days of Xbox Game Pass Premium time.
But what if you're still rocking some prepaid Game Pass Core, Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass or EA Play membership time? Microsoft has you covered with that as well.
In fact, there's a big long list that they've shared on the Xbox website, which we'll leave you with below:
