We saw some absolutely amazing games releasing on the original Xbox over 20 years ago, but there were hundreds more that could have released for the system but never saw the light of day at the time.
Many of these have sprung up over the years in individual articles, developer discussions, YouTube investigations and whatever else, and one particular Xbox fan has taken it upon themselves to make a "complete list" of them all.
The Reddit poster DJKaito is behind this, who says they spent "more than a year" going through "thousands of news, websites and videos" to try and find as many unreleased OG Xbox games as possible, finishing with 630.
Here's the link to the list over on the Xbox Fandom Wiki page, along with the explanation behind it:
"After some Wikipedia mod went overprotective over the list there, I took the matter into my own hands in the summer of 2024 and spent more then a year reading through thousands of news, websites and videos, on the search for cancelled Original Xbox games. The outcome are 630 games that were either officially announced for the Original Xbox or later discovered by people who got their hands on a development kit.
"A big thank you goes out to everyone who made the discoveries of prototypes and are involved in the preservation of them, Unseen64, u/fgasking (GamesThatWerent), Borman (PtoPOnline) and the people of the Unreleased Games miraheze wiki."
Looking through the list, there are some really interesting games in here including Black & White, Conker: Gettin' Medieval, Crazy Taxi 2, Diddy Kong Racing Adventure, Fallout Extreme, Jackie Chan Adventures, The Mummy, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round Two, Starcraft: Ghost, Star Wars Galaxies, Time Crisis Adventure and much more.
It's worth noting that some of the 630 games weren't necessarily ever going to release on Xbox, but nevertheless received prototypes during development just in case — and as referenced in the description below, some went on to be released on future consoles rather than during the original Xbox generation.
"The list includes well known games like True Fantasy Live Online - MMORPG handled as the selling point of Xbox in Japan, [as well as] forgotten games like a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger named Chrono Resurrection, up to games that are still in development for other platforms like The Rebel Planet: Chapter One: Orion.
Some games were released on other platforms, like PlayStation 2, GameCube or Wii, jumped ship to the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 or went through development hell (Duke Nukem Forever or the recently released Captain Blood), and some games were just discovered because they popped up during my research of another game by the same developer or publisher (Paparazzi by Widescreen Games, a lot of games by Data Design Interactive or Scumbag Racing by Smart Bomb)."
This is awesome work, anyway! Go and check out the list, and we'll leave you with a video of some unreleased titles from the original Xbox era down below.
