@Medic_Alert I feel like Microsoft delivered an evolutionary experience without any single killer new features but a ton of performance and quality of life improvements in a polished package.
Sony seems to be trying some new things but it looks like there are going to be some gaps that are hopefully resolved sooner rather than later. Two very different approaches. For someone who is lucky enough to be able to have both, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds over the next couple of years.
@WillieFisterbut I have been pretty surprised at how fast the download servers have been. I was expecting them to be buried but I have been getting a consistent 400-600 Mbps.
@Nightcrawler71 The "smart" part is that it picks the right version for your console. Or, a more sarcastic view might be that the "smart" part is the marketing around it.
I don't think it actually uses any content from the Xone version.
It appears to me like it it just downloads the whole game even when you have the Xone version installed. It isn't very transparent though so I don't know that for sure.
@Medic_Alert That is what I did. I picked up a 2tb external SSD and put all my Xone games on it. It will be a while before I need more dedicated storage for X/S games.
Also, DF tests showed that the performance advantage between internal storage and external SSD for backwards compatible games was minimal.
@Medic_Alert For the smart delivery titles I had, like borderlands 3, I didn't have to transfer them. An "update" showed up and when I installed it, it automatically installed onto internal storage.
I haven't spent all that much time with it yet but so far a few things stand out about the Series X.
It is smaller than I thought it would be from looking at pictures and videos
There is no single specific feature that is really revolutionary
The package, when taken as a whole, is pretty amazing. Everything just works. Full backwards compatibility with the Xone. Quick resume. More capable hardware in almost every way.
There aren't really any games to showcase the new hardware yet.
Overall I am impressed and it pretty much is what most of the reviewers said it would be.
I picked my Series X up about an hour ago. Game updates downloading now.....
A few random thoughts so far:
It is much smaller than what I expected
I used the app setup which was simple, fast and painless
It copied all my settings from my One X which made my life easier than having to reconfigure everything
Microsoft's download servers seem to be holding up fairly well at this point. I was expecting downloads to be slower than they have been
I moved all my Xone games to an external SSD ahead of time and they were all instantly recognized after connecting the drive
Setting the external device as the default location downloads Xone games to the external and X/S games to the internal. EDIT: This behavior seems somewhat inconsistent. Maybe it depends how the game install is initiated? Sometimes it puts on the internal and sometimes it warns that if I proceed it will install it to the external but it won't be playable from there.
If you have an Xone game that has an X/S upgrade. It shows up as an update and automatically moves it to the internal drive as part of the update. EDIT: It seems to leave some of it behind on the external as well. I wonder if the Xone version is still there.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions Of The Xbox Series X|S?
@Medic_Alert I don't have enough Xone, X360 and Xbox games that I need more than a 2TB SSD for all of them combined so no 3rd tier for me.

@UltimateOtaku91 It seems to be exactly the same as the Xone. I don't see any way to remove them.
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions Of The Xbox Series X|S?
@TheFrenchiestFry The UI is almost identical to the Xone.
I am not sure when the last time you saw the Xone UI but it has been slowly evolving with each update.

Re: Happy Xbox Series X|S Launch! Have You Received Yours?
@NEStalgia That is totally normal.
Re: Happy Xbox Series X|S Launch! Have You Received Yours?
For me it is a good news/bad news situation.
The good news is:
The bad news is that I have to work for the next 6 hours.
Overall, I would say the good outweighs the bad.
Re: Happy Xbox Series X|S Launch! Have You Received Yours?
@Thretosix That is terrifying. Around here, FedEx is the most reliable. UPS.....not so much.
Re: Happy Xbox Series X|S Launch! Have You Received Yours?
@StylesT I am not sure that "most" 4K TVs can do 1080p/120 but many of them can. Some only support it on certain ports.
It is more common in current models than in earlier 4K models.
