Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2023?

evan23

Definitely a B for me.

A decent amount of first party games but not much actually revealed for some of them. I can see some of those titles slipping into 2025 when all is said and done.

I did like that they clearly marked gameplay footage from non-gameplay though.

I would have like more about starfield to be revealed given it is only 3 months out.

Definitely the best showing of the past few weeks though.

Re: Poll: Which Xbox Console Had The Best Controller?

evan23

I am surprised that the results aren't even more one-sided. XBOX has basically evolving the controller in a very straightforward way over the years. Each iteration gets a little better.

That being said, I guess I am alone in disliking the X360 controller. Other than the duke, that one was the worst for me.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think Of Redfall So Far?

evan23

Others have mentioned the numerous and unacceptable technical issues. It is a train wreck of a game that should never have been released in the state it is in. 30FPS is the least of the issues it has.

But even if you put all the technical issues aside, it still isn't a very engaging game. What makes an open-world game interesting is that there are things to engage you in the world and make you want to explore it. Redfall doesn't have this at all.

Honestly, I think this game would be more fun and have less technical issues if it wasn't open world.

Re: Reaction: Should Xbox Produce A Mid-Gen Upgrade If Sony Launches 'PS5 Pro'?

evan23

I am going to be a bit different and say that it is needed.

Primarily because of ray-tracing. Current gen consoles are struggling to hit performance targets with ray-traced features. As ray-traced lighting becomes more the standard, it is going to get even worse. Granted, not everyone cares about that but many do.

Also, the predicted date is the end of next year over 18 months from now so of course the situation will change before now and then.

I agree with @BrilliantBill that there is a market for such a console.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Buy Less Third-Party Titles Because Of Xbox Game Pass?

evan23

I think it is clear that GP harms games sales. I am not sure how that could ever be in question.

However, publishers get paid for GP. So the question shouldn't be "Does game pass hurt sales?". It should be "Do the publishers/developers make more in total with GP?"

For me personally, I will always buy games I like because I like to own games, not just play them once.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Time For Xbox To Sunset The 'Games With Gold' Program?

evan23

The challenge they have is that if they remove GwG then Gold is way too expensive for the privilege to play multiplayer.

On the other hand, if they cancel Gold altogether, everyone will lose all the GwG games they have accumulated over the years which will probably cause a fan revolt. They probably can't grandfather people in either because they aren't the publishers of all those games.

Microsoft is in a tough spot right now. They have no recent must-have exclusives. I find it hard to believe they will kill Gold right now. The timing isn't right.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With January 2023's Xbox Games With Gold?

evan23

There is no real reason to keep these polls going. The only games that were worth anything were the X360 games for the last couple of years. With those gone, there is nothing.

The only reason I will keep gold when my sub expires is to retain access to the older GWG games from when they were actually worth downloading.

It is amazing how much better the PS Plus games are than the GWG games. It is embarrassing honestly.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With December 2022's Xbox Games With Gold?

evan23

@Tharsman the background is I converted my Gold subscription to gamepass a couple of years ago for a very small amount of money and that still hasn't expired. So essentially, my current gamepass sub is my old gold sub.

As for gamepass itself, I find it to have little to no value for me. Primarily because the types of games I enjoy playing are poorly represented on gamepass. The few that are there, are generally games I already own by the time they come to come to gamepass.

Re: Talking Point: Which Of These Is Your Favourite Assassin's Creed Era?

evan23

It is an interesting choice to break it down this way.

It probably goes without saying that Black Flag is my favorite. However, I didn't love the other games grouped into that era.

Both Unity and Syndicate are great games so I went with that era.

Unity is an interesting game in that when it launched, it was in terrible shape. It had tons of bugs and the technical scale of them game was more than the hardware of the time could handle. Surprisingly, Ubisoft fixed the bugs and now that hardware has caught up with the game it is one of the best games in the series in my opinion. For an 8 year old game, it looks pretty amazing on a PC at high resolution.

Re: Talking Point: Will Microsoft Replace Xbox 360 Games With Gold?

evan23

I should add that I don't think Microsoft will kill GWG right now(or soon). They are desperately trying to grow market share and they have few exclusives coming to the table right now.

I don't think it would be worth it to them to risk the outcry it would cause. Less painful for them to just let it limp along.

Re: 'Xbox Series C' Has Been Trending Thanks To This New Concept Trailer

evan23

It isn't clear to me exactly how cutting a series X in half with more powerful hardware than the series S inside would actually be possible.

It seems like creating a revised series S with more slightly powerful hardware would be more useful.

That being said, I am not sure there is actually room in the market for that. Especially since Microsoft can sell every unit they are making.

That being said, it looks cool.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Pre-Order Games For Xbox?

evan23

I used to pre-order games all the time. These days, I have learned to never pre-order them.

Pre-ordering games is just wasting money for me. I have a substantial backlog of games to play. It makes much more sense for me to wait until the games drop in price.

The one exception I would probably make is the sequel to BOTW. I might be willing to preorder that if there was some reason to do so.

Re: Xbox Game Pass: All Games Coming Soon In September 2022

evan23

@BAMozzy

  • "Their target audience is 'Gamers'."

Whether it is intentional or coincidental, the games in game pass don't cover all bases. It is more an observation than a criticism and I am not the only one pointing this out.

  • "If you only play AAA games and/or only play certain genres, not interested in trying anything else despite the fact you can without any additional cost, then maybe Game Pass isn't for you."

My time to enjoy games is limited. I don't play games for the sake of playing games. I use that time to play the games I most enjoy playing. Game pass just doesn't seem to have those games for me.

  • "There are going to be 'months' when there is no big AAA games in the genre/style you 'like', but there will be 'lots' of games added for 'Gamers' to enjoy."

I am not one of the people complaining about slow months. I believe I found a only one game to play the entire time I have been a gamepass subscriber which is over a year.

That is why I made the statement "I must be outside XBOX's target audience" because for me, personally, there simply hasn't been anything worth my time on service excluding the handful of games I already owned.

To be fair, expecting the service to have titles to please every individual gamer isn't reasonable.

Re: Talking Point: What September 2022 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?

evan23

My prediction is that Microsoft will continue to support Games with Gold in the most minimal way possible and that this month will be no different.

That being said, I would love to be proven wrong and have Microsoft actually offer something different, even if it is nothing more than a strong farewell to the X360 games.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Is Hurting Right Now, But Larger Forces Are At Play

evan23

To be honest, I have had game pass for over a year now and I think I have played exactly one game on it.

The games they tend to offer are just not interesting to me(or I already own them).

On the other hand, I recently joined the new PS Plus program and there are more games there I am interested in even though the catalog is smaller overall.

Re: Talking Point: How Would You Compare The New PS Plus To Xbox Game Pass?

evan23

PS Plus(Essential) is better than Games with Gold on every level. It isn't even close.

Game pass is so much more mature than PS Plus Extra/Premium that it isn't really a fair comparison.

That being said, for me personally, PS Plus Extra is adding games that are interesting to me while XBGP has a huge library of games I have no interest in or already own.
