A decent amount of first party games but not much actually revealed for some of them. I can see some of those titles slipping into 2025 when all is said and done.
I did like that they clearly marked gameplay footage from non-gameplay though.
I would have like more about starfield to be revealed given it is only 3 months out.
Definitely the best showing of the past few weeks though.
I am surprised that the results aren't even more one-sided. XBOX has basically evolving the controller in a very straightforward way over the years. Each iteration gets a little better.
That being said, I guess I am alone in disliking the X360 controller. Other than the duke, that one was the worst for me.
Others have mentioned the numerous and unacceptable technical issues. It is a train wreck of a game that should never have been released in the state it is in. 30FPS is the least of the issues it has.
But even if you put all the technical issues aside, it still isn't a very engaging game. What makes an open-world game interesting is that there are things to engage you in the world and make you want to explore it. Redfall doesn't have this at all.
Honestly, I think this game would be more fun and have less technical issues if it wasn't open world.
I am going to be a bit different and say that it is needed.
Primarily because of ray-tracing. Current gen consoles are struggling to hit performance targets with ray-traced features. As ray-traced lighting becomes more the standard, it is going to get even worse. Granted, not everyone cares about that but many do.
Also, the predicted date is the end of next year over 18 months from now so of course the situation will change before now and then.
I agree with @BrilliantBill that there is a market for such a console.
I think it is clear that GP harms games sales. I am not sure how that could ever be in question.
However, publishers get paid for GP. So the question shouldn't be "Does game pass hurt sales?". It should be "Do the publishers/developers make more in total with GP?"
For me personally, I will always buy games I like because I like to own games, not just play them once.
The challenge they have is that if they remove GwG then Gold is way too expensive for the privilege to play multiplayer.
On the other hand, if they cancel Gold altogether, everyone will lose all the GwG games they have accumulated over the years which will probably cause a fan revolt. They probably can't grandfather people in either because they aren't the publishers of all those games.
Microsoft is in a tough spot right now. They have no recent must-have exclusives. I find it hard to believe they will kill Gold right now. The timing isn't right.
There is no real reason to keep these polls going. The only games that were worth anything were the X360 games for the last couple of years. With those gone, there is nothing.
The only reason I will keep gold when my sub expires is to retain access to the older GWG games from when they were actually worth downloading.
It is amazing how much better the PS Plus games are than the GWG games. It is embarrassing honestly.
@Tharsman the background is I converted my Gold subscription to gamepass a couple of years ago for a very small amount of money and that still hasn't expired. So essentially, my current gamepass sub is my old gold sub.
As for gamepass itself, I find it to have little to no value for me. Primarily because the types of games I enjoy playing are poorly represented on gamepass. The few that are there, are generally games I already own by the time they come to come to gamepass.
I don't really get the angst about online multiplayer.
Playing an N64 game like this is mostly about the nostalgia for me. It never had online multiplayer in the first place so we are getting an improved, upres'd version of a classic game from the N64 era.
@LX_FENIX Certainly. It makes sense that both would have fans. It is just very odd that the post-Syndicate games are basically a completely different genre.
It is an interesting choice to break it down this way.
It probably goes without saying that Black Flag is my favorite. However, I didn't love the other games grouped into that era.
Both Unity and Syndicate are great games so I went with that era.
Unity is an interesting game in that when it launched, it was in terrible shape. It had tons of bugs and the technical scale of them game was more than the hardware of the time could handle. Surprisingly, Ubisoft fixed the bugs and now that hardware has caught up with the game it is one of the best games in the series in my opinion. For an 8 year old game, it looks pretty amazing on a PC at high resolution.
I should add that I don't think Microsoft will kill GWG right now(or soon). They are desperately trying to grow market share and they have few exclusives coming to the table right now.
I don't think it would be worth it to them to risk the outcry it would cause. Less painful for them to just let it limp along.
I used to pre-order games all the time. These days, I have learned to never pre-order them.
Pre-ordering games is just wasting money for me. I have a substantial backlog of games to play. It makes much more sense for me to wait until the games drop in price.
The one exception I would probably make is the sequel to BOTW. I might be willing to preorder that if there was some reason to do so.
Whether it is intentional or coincidental, the games in game pass don't cover all bases. It is more an observation than a criticism and I am not the only one pointing this out.
"If you only play AAA games and/or only play certain genres, not interested in trying anything else despite the fact you can without any additional cost, then maybe Game Pass isn't for you."
My time to enjoy games is limited. I don't play games for the sake of playing games. I use that time to play the games I most enjoy playing. Game pass just doesn't seem to have those games for me.
"There are going to be 'months' when there is no big AAA games in the genre/style you 'like', but there will be 'lots' of games added for 'Gamers' to enjoy."
I am not one of the people complaining about slow months. I believe I found a only one game to play the entire time I have been a gamepass subscriber which is over a year.
That is why I made the statement "I must be outside XBOX's target audience" because for me, personally, there simply hasn't been anything worth my time on service excluding the handful of games I already owned.
To be fair, expecting the service to have titles to please every individual gamer isn't reasonable.
I must be outside XBOX's target audience because other than a handful of games I already own, there is nothing current or planned that I have any interest in at all.
My prediction is that Microsoft will continue to support Games with Gold in the most minimal way possible and that this month will be no different.
That being said, I would love to be proven wrong and have Microsoft actually offer something different, even if it is nothing more than a strong farewell to the X360 games.
@Martsmall It is the same for me, I did a long gold conversion so it isn't costing me much. That being said, I am not sure I will keep it once that ends.
To be honest, I have had game pass for over a year now and I think I have played exactly one game on it.
The games they tend to offer are just not interesting to me(or I already own them).
On the other hand, I recently joined the new PS Plus program and there are more games there I am interested in even though the catalog is smaller overall.
PS Plus(Essential) is better than Games with Gold on every level. It isn't even close.
Game pass is so much more mature than PS Plus Extra/Premium that it isn't really a fair comparison.
That being said, for me personally, PS Plus Extra is adding games that are interesting to me while XBGP has a huge library of games I have no interest in or already own.

Re: Xbox Reveals New 'Carbon Black' Series S With 1TB Storage, Releasing September 2023
It seems like this is a really strange move from an econonmic perspective.
Launching a console 2 years later with nothing but increased storage for an increased price.
I wonder if this signals price increases for the Series X are coming.
Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2023?
Definitely a B for me.
A decent amount of first party games but not much actually revealed for some of them. I can see some of those titles slipping into 2025 when all is said and done.
I did like that they clearly marked gameplay footage from non-gameplay though.

Re: Talking Point: Is There An Xbox Classic You Wish Was Backwards Compatible?
The two Buffy games would be the top on my list at this point.
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Console Had The Best Controller?
@ZYDIO Which adapter are you guys using for that?
How is the latency?
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Console Had The Best Controller?
@Utena-mobile Yeah, I was a gamer in the early xbox days and I barely used it until the S controller came out. The duke was way too big for my hands.
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Console Had The Best Controller?
@Wheatly Yeah, I loved the S controller.

Re: Poll: How Many Of 2023's Xbox Games With Gold Have You Played So Far?
I don't think I played one this year or last year.
Re: Poll: Would You Rather Have EA Play Or Ubisoft Plus Included With Xbox Game Pass?
@Kaloudz Great question. I forgot about that. That was the last game I pre-ordered in September of 2020.
I need to check to see if my order is still pending.
Re: Poll: Would You Rather Have EA Play Or Ubisoft Plus Included With Xbox Game Pass?
Ubisoft for me.
The only EA game I have played in forever is Fallen Order and that is the kind of game I would buy anyway.
Re: BioShock Infinite's 'Columbia' Is One Of The Best Game Worlds Ever To Grace Xbox
Great game, excellent design and atmosphere.
Some dislike it because it diverged from the first two Bioshock games but taken on it's own, it was a great game.
Re: Reaction: Should Xbox Produce A Mid-Gen Upgrade If Sony Launches 'PS5 Pro'?
I am going to be a bit different and say that it is needed.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Classics Would You Remaster?
@MaseSco Those will likely never happen due to licensing issues.
I would love to see both the Buffy games remastered though.
Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Classics Would You Remaster?
The simpsons all the way.
That is a classic game where the gameplay would need very few changes for a modern audience.
Re: Xbox Series X And Xbox Series S Consoles Are Going Up In Price In Japan
To be fair, this may be about the currency situation. The yen has been really weak against the dollar for a while now.
On a side note, it is a great time to buy things from Japan if you are in the US or another country with a similar exchange rate situation.

Re: Poll: How Many Xbox Games Have You Actually Bought This Year?
@Tharsman Whoa. Out of curiosity, how many of the 132 games you bought this year did you play in a significant fashion?
Re: Poll: How Many Xbox Games Have You Actually Bought This Year?
I haven't found anything worth buying on xbox this year.
This is partially because I have a backlog of games so in order to buy something it has to be better than the games waiting on my backlog.
Most of the games I have played this year have been on either PS5 or PC.

Truly terrible. They aren't even trying anymore.
I will definitely not be renewing my gamepass subscription when it expires.
Re: Google Stadia Is Shutting Down, Which Is Good News For Xbox
So shocking that Google would shut down Stadia. This is something nobody saw coming.
Oh wait, this is something more or less everyone saw coming......

@Cherip-the-Ripper it is $159.99 USD at full price which would be a terrible price if anyone actually pays that for it.

Re: Talking Point: Will Microsoft Replace Xbox 360 Games With Gold?
I have been wondering this as well. Will they start offering something else since the x360 games are being dropped.
Re: Xbox Games With Gold For September 2022 Announced
Is a sad state of affairs that this looks better than normal to me. Mostly because of portal 2.
Re: 'Xbox Series C' Has Been Trending Thanks To This New Concept Trailer
It isn't clear to me exactly how cutting a series X in half with more powerful hardware than the series S inside would actually be possible.
It seems like creating a revised series S with more slightly powerful hardware would be more useful.
That being said, I am not sure there is actually room in the market for that. Especially since Microsoft can sell every unit they are making.
That being said, it looks cool.
Re: Xbox Is Adding New Install Options For Different Game Types
This is great news.
The problem with being asked is that things can be added from other places and/or queued. A default location by type is a great solution I think.
Re: Xbox Game Pass: All Games Coming Soon In September 2022
@BAMozzy I play a lot more than 1-2 games per year.
The concept that because I don't prefer the game selection offered on gamepass I am not a "gamer" seems flawed.....
That fundamentally means that the definition of "gamer" is someone who likes gamepass.
Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Pre-Order Games For Xbox?

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?
We know so little about these games right now.
I don't why but I have this feeling that Perfect Dark will end up as a mess, I hope I am wrong.
Indiana Jones, Fable and Everwild all seem worth looking forward to at this point.
Re: Xbox Game Pass: All Games Coming Soon In September 2022
I must be outside XBOX's target audience because other than a handful of games I already own, there is nothing current or planned that I have any interest in at all.
Re: Xbox Elite Series 3 Controller: Five Features We'd Like To See
To be honest, I am pretty happy with my 2nd gen elite controller. It is the best controller I have ever used.
I would like to see user replaceable batteries though.
Re: Poll: Are You Planning On Picking Up Saints Row?
My backlog is so large at this point, a game has to look "great" for me to be interested in playing it.
This.......doesn't appear to meet that criteria.
Re: Talking Point: Which Is The Best BioShock Game On Xbox?
Infinite for me is a good game. It is a bit of a departure from the first two titles though.
Re: Talking Point: What September 2022 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?

I can barely find things to play on my Series X as it is. I don't need a second Series console.
Re: Talking Point: What's Your 2022 Game Of The Year So Far?
Sadly, there hasn't been a single game on XBOX that I wanted to play yet in 2022.
