These are huge sums of money that Nintendo or Sony would like to see.
The bad thing is that it seems that consoles no longer have any relevance, the results are brutal without hardly selling hardware.
I think that this phenomenon of being successful without needing the console is something that we are going to see in all companies over time, but Microsoft is very far ahead, perhaps too far ahead.
I hope the performance has improved on these TVs, I have a 2023 Samsung that includes the Xbox Cloud Gaming app and the image quality is quite low. It is probably due to the processor/wifi included in the TV, which is not capable of offering better image decoding, I have tried Xbox Cloud Gaming on other devices and it works much better, but as a first impression for someone who buys one of these TVs and trying this service for the first time is really bad.
This is one of the best development studios in the world, especially in the technical field, they are, for me, the best. It's incredible the worlds of photorealistic graphics they have been able to create in a relatively short time. Other studios like Rockstar or Naughty Dog achieve similar things, but either they need more time, or they limit themselves to highly scripted experiences to achieve it, I think Playground right now is at a point that no one can match.
But for now they have only demonstrated this enormous performance in a specific genre, they have the opportunity to show that they also know how to apply it in other scenarios, and with more time and money, in theory something incredible should come out of here, we will see if the theory holds true.
@Dan1283 I think they have work to do before they can drop all the games, Xbox is now an ecosystem with console, cloud and PC. For the cloud they need to work with Ubisoft (courtesy of the CMA), and for PC they have to adapt them to their launcher.
Considering generations are no longer a thing, I think the names make pretty good sense. I imagine the idea was to release successive iterations of hardware under "Series S and X" so that it was always clear which was a high-end machine and which was a budget one.
I understand that you select the news based on the number of visits and comments they may have, but in the same way that you publish news about games that "maybe they don't come to Xbox" you should also publish news about games that "maybe they do come to Xbox."
A few days ago a version of Tales of Xillia was leaked for all consoles, including Xbox, and I have seen the news on other websites... but not here.
I understand that news about an old JRPG coming to Xbox is not going to generate the same number of clicks as another game that may exclude Xbox. But I still think you should cover both points. That is just my opinion.
I think Avowed should be the big game of the year if it lives up to the expectations we can expect from the geniuses at Obsidian.
But after Avowed, I think Indiana Jones can be another great one, I had a really good time with Wolfenstein 2, so I expect something similar from Indiana.
I think there are no generations anymore, it doesn't matter if the next Xbox can be called Xbox 6 or Xbox SeriesX-2, it's really going to be the same, new hardware iteration for the same games, it just improves performance or graphical settings.
@Ilyn Today PCs do not require much effort from the user, drivers and installations have been greatly simplified and automated. There isn't much to do beyond downloading the game from the store and playing, setup is usually relatively automatic and easy.
Yes, there is still a difference between console and PC, that is undeniable, and a console is still easier and "direct" to use.
But it is also undeniable that PCs have become more "console" and consoles more "PC", there is a trend that suggests a time when one is not easily distinguishable from the other. And I think this benefits the PC more than the console.
And, well, this is just my opinion, but if you make enough investment in a PC it offers a much more satisfactory gaming experience, you can play at very high resolutions and fps rates and with really impressive visual settings.
I have been a console gamer all my life, and I still love the concept of a console (I have a Series X), I still play quite a few games on it, especially because of the achievement system (many games do not have Xbox achievements on PC and I love the Xbox achievement system) but I see that the direction in which the industry is going makes it more and more dispensable (for me) to have a game console.
If we objectively analyze Microsoft products, XboxSeries is much better than PS5, it has two models, one is the most powerful console and the other the cheapest, they have a smaller and more efficient design, it has Gamepass, a much superior service, the user It has been treated with more care, with proposals like PlayAnywhere, SmartDelivery... or functions like QuickResume... even recently the first party catalog is much better on Xbox.
Xbox Series X/S should really be a big problem for Playstation, it is much more competitive in many ways. However, sales do not reflect this, something has obviously been done wrong.
Apart from the cultural heritage that names like Playstation or Nintendo may have, which Xbox cannot match at the moment. The other big element we have left is marketing, something has not gone well here. Either there has not been enough budget, or it has not been invested efficiently.
But I think that in general the problem is that Microsoft leaves its consoles out of focus, this allows them to build their ecosystem without depending on the sales of a specific type of hardware. But for those of us who use an Xbox it generates lights and shadows, we have a great console that is part of a great ecosystem, with many great games and incredible service, but at the same time it feels wasted, with multiplatforms that prioritize their launch on other machines and without exclusive games that take advantage of the hardware.
The truth is that the idea of buying a console again seems doubtful after playing on PC, and lately many people are making the jump to this platform.
In the past, consoles were based on exclusives, and a little bit also on ease of use. But the exclusives are disappearing, practically everything can now be played on PC, and consoles have become just as complex as a PC (installations, updates, etc.).
We can still consider the comfort of playing from the couch, a place where a PC still does not compete adequately, in addition to the fact that a console is usually cheaper to purchase, but otherwise, having an Xbox Series begins to not make much sense, and gradually not having a PS5 either.
I think we are in a hybrid moment, where consoles are losing that traditional value compared to other ways of playing, and I think Microsoft is the one that is running the most in this process (perhaps because it benefits them), which is especially harming its consoles. Although as long as a few of us continue to prefer consoles as a way to play, they will continue to release Xbox.
I stopped doing these "tricks" a long time ago, even with the price increase the service is very cheap for everything it offers and is way above what other services offer.
What bothers me is the confusing communication that Microsoft has with these moves.
Interesting, I hope they add the whole series to Gamepass eventually.
Anyway, if we're hearing about this from "insiders" it means there's a serious communication problem. This should have been announced along with the service changes.
I don't know if it was Xbox that bought Activision, or Activision that bought Xbox... They do not stop "annoying" their users with all kinds of clumsy decisions.
Even so, I guess it makes sense, Game Pass is by far much better than the rest of the services, in games, day 1 releases... what it offers for what it costs is crazy, and with the arrival of Activision games (and COD) they should balance it.
There is a new Xbox home console on the way, I don't know what it will be like, but we know it exists.
We also know that there is something like a portable console somewhere.
There are going to be more Xbox consoles, after all the Xbox Series is selling "well." But Microsoft has eliminated the need to sell consoles to make a lot of money, now Xbox is everything (smartphones, smartTVs, PCs, the cloud...), I think that is the main enemy of Xbox consoles, now they are no longer necessary for the business, but like the physical format, they will continue making them while a few of us continue buying them.
I think this is going to happen with consoles in general, I don't think we will massively play on consoles in 10 years, but Xbox always leads the way with these things, which I don't know if it's good.
And I think Sony follows the same path, although they still depend a lot on the console, they need to sell many units and spend on marketing. However, something feels "strange" about Sony, PS5 is its worst desktop console, with a new first party library unexpectedly empty, as if the investment were weaker. In this sense I have to praise Microsoft, I don't like their policies, but right now the Xbox first party library is much more promising.
It is evident that for Microsoft game consoles are no longer a priority, the decisions made in the last half year are disastrous if we think of Xbox as a game console, although perhaps logical if we think of Xbox as an ecosystem.
I think that from a business point of view I think it may make sense, but the truth is, as an Xbox Series user I am very saddened by the direction the company is taking.
Although, the truth is, they are not bad sales considering the decisions they have made and the feeling they have caused. I think the Xbox Series will end up as the third best-selling Xbox console, behind the XOne and above the OG Xbox.
The problem with these games with real brands is that the licenses have expired. Even if they wanted to bring it back, they couldn't add it to the store.
For me, the best moment of the Xbox Series was the announcement of the acquisition of Activision, it was an earthquake, I think we are all very excited.
And if we talk about a game: Starfield, one of the best RPGs I have ever played.
However, I also think we can talk about early 2024 as the platform's most bitter moment with really bad decision making. Even with a catalog of first party games announced MUCH more spectacular than that of PS5, the decisions to make certain games multiplatform or to close studios like Tango have broken the magic and trust in the Xbox Series.
The Xbox Series has lost its momentum, console sales are quite low in several markets and it will probably end the generation with even fewer units than the XOne.
And this is aggravated by the policy of multiplatform games, while Sony and Nintendo generate trust with their first party games and agreements with third parties, Microsoft does just the opposite, aiming to bring its games to all platforms. I don't know if this will be good for Xbox in the long run (I have doubts), but in the short term this was inevitable, the trust of users and developers in Xbox Series is falling right now.
Even with the bright future of games and software that Xbox studios have right now, they have the seed of the possibility of being multiplatform in the future, which fatally damages hardware sales.
I hope Microsoft knows what it's doing, Xbox's past is full of bad decisions, there is no room for more failed experiments with Xbox.
I think Phil is very right here, but consoles have always worked that way.
For example, when I bought PS2 I didn't do it because I liked it, as a machine it was very weak, I didn't like the controller and NGC and Xbox OG were better consoles, but at that time I did want to play titles like Metal Gear Solid 3 or Devil May Cry had to do it there.
But this chaining between hardware or software has also given good things, for example Nintendo was able to make special games like Mario Galaxy thanks to it.
I think she refers to the important change that is about to come in terms of architectures, ARM is the future, and current console games are designed for x86, which is a serious problem for backward compatibility in the future.
The libraries of other systems such as Playstation may have to be restarted or locked into the old consoles, or use an emulator with the problems that emulation has, if you jump to ARM.
I understand that they are working so that the Xbox libraries we already have (Xbox OG, X360, XOne, XSeries...) can run on ARM devices, this could be new hardware, like that Xbox console or a portable console, or a phone mobile.
@cragis0001 Well, it's a different story, WP was financially unsustainable, Xbox generates huge revenues and profits every quarter.
I think the question they would have asked themselves in their offices is "Why settle for being the new Playstation or Nintendo when we can be the new Tencent?" And well, after the ABK acquisition they are in that point, being the largest gaming business in the world, even if that means hurting the culture of studios and players that Phil had created after all these years.
ABK is too big, when you buy something so big it is difficult not to be "infected" with its business culture.
I don't think this is Phil Spencer's thing, when you had a small ship you can direct it wherever you want, but after acquiring ABK the ship is too big, there are too many people involved and the importance of gaming in the quarterly results It's very heavy, I don't think Phil has the control he used to.
I quite enjoyed it playing alone, it doesn't seem like a bad game to me at all, although it does have many points to improve, including the story and the enemy AI.
Objectively, I think the Xbox Series is the best Xbox, it has the best combination of games, services, policies and hardware.
In fact, I think it is one of the few generations in which I can affirm that Xbox is far above Playstation, which takes less and less care of its users.
However, I think that Microsoft has a problem generating enthusiasm, some decisions may be right from a commercial point of view, but not from the point of view of the players. I believe this has happened several times in Xbox history affecting the reliability and identity of the brand.
I have played about 150 hours, I still play, but less, there are many other games. I'm waiting for future updates and expansions to come back strong to it

Re: Rumour: GTA 5 Is Coming To PC Game Pass For The Very First Time
It's an "endless" game thanks to online, so it makes sense that it continues to sell and push services like Gamepass.

Re: Two More Games Quietly Announced For Xbox Game Pass In 2024
@Dan1283 Do not relate "indie" as something bad, nowadays it is easier to find good games among indies than among high-budget games.
In fact Core Keeper is wonderful, it was a big surprise on Steam and I'm sure it will also be a success on Gamepass.
