I just can't shake the feeling that xbox will botch this expensive sounding hybrid PC-console with some bone-headed idea like only allowing you to play steam games if you sub to gamepass, or keeping multiplayer pay-walled, or not supporting GOG or epic game store, or blocking mods or emulators. They are going to screw something up I'm certain, it's microsoft after all
This is the end of xbox as a hardware brand, Satya is happy enough with the Gamepass / CoD / Candy crush money. At this rate I'm not even sure the next-gen hybrid xbox will ever come out
The fact you need gamepass to stream your own games makes it a bit pointless, if it's in the catalogue it's in the catalogue, if it's dropped from the catalogue and you buy it, wouldn't you just play it natively? if this was available to all subscription free i'd get it
Really disappointing you need gamepass to play this beta, no need for PS+ to play on playstation. Totally fed up with pay walls in general... it's not 2005 anymore
I'm excited to hear that we may have access to steam / EGS, but if they keep multiplayer behind a pay-wall - they completely handicap the whole PC / Console hybrid approach. Microsoft must understand no one will choose this new xbox over a PC if things like free online play, mods, and emulators are not available like they are on PC, especially when Valve have a console in the works and SteamOS gets a full desktop build
In a world where Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, Warzone are established and free, I don't see this lasting very long. It's not just the initial price, it's the endless subscription fee of game pass / PS+ required to just function. I can't believe the industry has learned nothing from Lawbreakers, Anthem, BF 2043, Concord etc. Nobody wants to pay for a live service on console, even Helldivers 2 only really succeeded because it was released on PC where online subs are not tolerated. This feels like an imminent disaster
@GuyinPA75 I would normally agree with you, I love physical media too, but the way things are going I'd bet my bottom dollar the next Xbox and PlayStation will not have a disc drive as standard (it's possible external drives will be sold but who knows?), Plus discs have a shelf life of a few hundred years at best depending on storage conditions, for example my dad bought CDs in the early 90s that are now unplayable due to disc rot
I thought i'd buy a whole bunch, but after checking the list I discovered I own everything I want, usually remastered with higher resolution and faster framerates, xbox 360s will not live forever, pay a little more and future proof your collection
Ubisoft have basically created a viable Pepsi to Activision's coke, if you're thirsty it'll do, but when you taste it you realise it's not quite the real thing, but hey free is free
When your average cod campaign is 4 to 6hrs, you could probably complete them all on one free 14 day trial! Seriously though - upping gamepass while closing studios will not be a good look
This sounds like evidence of a possible project to port xbox titles forward to a different architecture, maybe this rumored pc / console hybrid, if I could play my entire PC library with no extra charge for online play then i'm sold
This would be awesome! Xbox has long needed a windows mode that allows PC game installs. But before all of that they really need to bite the bullet and make ALL online play free. This would attract back the PC master race and shake up the console market
Just a heads up that the irritating 15 minute delay for every 3 bing searches has been removed on browsers, so you can earn 90 to 150 points in about 5 minutes every day again (at least for me in the UK)
Yeah if you really want to play it on a Microsoft platform buy it for PC, it's got cross play and you don't need xbox gamepass core or PlayStation plus to play online. If you have a decent PC rig there's literally no reason to purchase a console version
If you need to subscribe to gamepass to play your purchased games then this is almost completely pointless! Just use your xbox and have a way better experience with no buffering / lag. If it's free to access then that's excellent news but I doubt you'll be allowed to use xcloud to play your huge digital collections without paying a premium, and if you do pay you'll want to play stuff you don't own... Even the 'free' Fortnite xcloud beta now has 30+ minute server capacity waits
Something really big needs to happen to drive Game Pass to that kind of growth. My personal take is that getting a 73% increase would require something like making call-of-duty fully exclusive, putting the app on every smart TV or finally removing the pay-wall for online play to drive console sales and therefore new subs. If I was a Microsoft or Sony big wig I'd be worried at the success of the steam deck and how valve is moving into hardware business aggressively. Not long before valve release a 'steam-box' console that plays both PS + Xbox exclusive PC ports with free online multiplayer and the worlds biggest and cheapest online market place to boot

One last platform to own the original Resident Evil 4 on I guess, that's platform number 7 for me
