Re: It's Official! The Xbox 360 Is 20 Years Old Today

MrStark

Happy 20th to the best console of the seventh generation of consoles.

As with all consoles, it had its faults but it was so far ahead of everything else on the market. A truly revolutionary console.

The PlayStation 4 was the literal successor to it.

Re: Poll: Now That The Dust Has Settled, Which Xbox Game Pass Tier Are You Subscribed To?

MrStark

Cancelled mine and I will probably quit gaming altogether.

Games, subscription services, hardware, accessories etc. have all gone up in price AND we are getting the same NOT more.

Sorry. I ain't going to accept that. Heck, no one should.

Now we have games being made by AI. Goodness me. When will this downward spiral end? I don't know but I am so happy to have witnessed gaming when it was all about the games and not the waffle.

Re: Sony's Purchase Of Former Xbox Studio Bungie Isn't Exactly Going To Plan

MrStark

As Push Square writers say, "it's quite amusing"... well it certainly is regarding this complete failure of an acquisition.

Bear in mind, the PlayStation crowd was throwing accusations at Xbox that Game Pass was going to lead to more GaaS... and yet Sony has been the worst offender by a country mile.

Re: PSA: The Next Few Months Could Be Very Busy With Xbox-Related Showcases

MrStark

They've finally got their game output down but it's too little, too late.

This should've been the case a decade ago in the early years of the Xbox One (no I'm not talking about money-hats that padded the Xbox One library).

Their ineptitude in the latter years of the 360 came home to roost in the Xbox One era and now they have to give away their most prized ips to their main rival.

No matter how you look at it, exclusives are important to make your brand stand out. EVERYONE has exclusives to the point that streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Instant Video have them. Heck, Apple Arcade has exclusives.

Xbox will forever be a niche brand now. Sad to see, but if you make mistakes then you will inevitably face consequences.

Re: Ninja Gaiden 4 Performance Is Impressive But Xbox Series S Visuals Suffer, Says Digital Foundry

@Briarback

I never said those Sony games were the best examples but they’re certainly better than anything Xbox has produced story wise simply because Sony knows how to manage studios, support them and to maintain top tier quality in their games.

Also, you don’t know the point I made about FH? You falsely accuse me of saying FH 5 then you try to double back and not even admit you were wrong. Lovely…

Indy and South of Midnight are good games. They’re not great. Indy is the best Xbox game this Gen but it still falls short of the standard set by PlayStation first party studios.

You’d rather take dude bro Gears over HZD and HFW? There you go. You literally admit that you like inferior writing and story telling lol.

You don’t have to agree with me. You just have to make your point which you have failed to do so.

PlayStation has the best story driven games. That doesn’t make me a Xbox hater. I only deal with facts. Unfortunately, facts are not always nice to hear.

Re: Ninja Gaiden 4 Performance Is Impressive But Xbox Series S Visuals Suffer, Says Digital Foundry

MrStark

@Briarback

You need to chill, buddy. Cool it with the insults too. I never said anything abt FH 5. I said Forza Horizon (the franchise). What? You think Xbox Game Studios has produced a better franchise since 2012? Name it. : )

"But I still don’t think you can (especially in the last few years) just say that ”Xbox” makes poor storytelling games. That generalization is simply too much these days.... . Since, once again, MS now owns SO many studios ie: first party studios, that spit out some great games with great story telling.. Just in the last year alone there’s been some amazing examples."

Ok. MS owning so many studios makes no difference if the stories and writing aren't on the level of what PlayStation spits out.

Spit out great games with great story telling? You mean Indiana Jones? South of Midnight? Any other game? They're not even close to PlayStation's efforts this gen like: Ghost of Yotei, Stellar Blade, HFW and so on.

Sure, they're an improvement over... Gears of War 4 and 5... I mean the writing in those games... goodness me lol.

Re: Ninja Gaiden 4 Performance Is Impressive But Xbox Series S Visuals Suffer, Says Digital Foundry

MrStark

@Briarback The story-telling and writing in their games is not even close to the standard of PlayStation first party studios (which is the best standard in the industry). I have more than enough knowledge on the matter. PlayStation has been wiping the floor with Xbox since 2009’s GOTY winner: Uncharted 2. Not even the most ardent Xbox fan can debate this which makes me wonder whether it’s you who reeks of knowledge. This is coming from a guy who loves Xbox like the next man. There’s no comparison. Xbox makes good games but they constantly fall below the top echelon in story and writing and overall excellence. This is illustrated no more than Forza Horizon which is by far the best thing Xbox has been putting out since 2012 and it’s a racing game…..

Re: Xbox Has More Competition From TikTok Than PlayStation, Claims Microsoft Exec

MrStark

This isn’t the first time Team Xbox has made such a statement.

Phil “Half-speak” Spencer said that Sony and Nintendo were no longer their main competition.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-51400135

All this highlights is that Team Xbox is a bit delusional. They think they’re so big that they can do anything and people will follow them. They’re looking at the market in the wrong light. For instance, exclusivity has been a part of branding since the Atari 2600. Heck, even now with Netflix and Prime Instant Video you have exclusive content that can only be accessed on those respective platforms.

Microsoft have gotten this wrong simply because of a lack of fight and poor planning. They made the mistake of trying to push Kinect and TV back in 2013 and now they’re heading off to the cloud. Poor, poor choices.

Re: Xbox Boss Says Forza Motorsport Isn't Dead Despite 'Scaling Back' At Turn 10 Studios

MrStark

It’s hard to take anything Phil “Half-speak” Spencer says with certainty.

He is absolutely the reason why Xbox and, in this case, Forza Motorsport have become irrelevant.

There was a time when Forza Motorsport was the pinnacle of the racing genre. FM 3 and 4 were pound for pound the best racing games of the PS3/360 era. Outstanding games. The soundtrack to those games alone was unrivalled and still are.

However, good ol’ Phil has ruined Halo, Gears and now Forza Motorsport.

Truly awful leadership. Here I thought Don Mattrick was bad…

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Halo: Campaign Evolved Launching Day One On PS5?

MrStark

@Questionable_Duck

Let me put it this way: say from 2025 - 2030 Xbox was to win a couple of GOTY awards at The Game Awards and PlayStation was to win none, the perception around Xbox would be far more positive and players would look at PlayStation in an inferior light. This is exactly what happened in the early years of the 360: Xbox had Gears and Halo 3 and PlayStation had nothing in comparison. That all changed with the 2009 GOTY winner Uncharted 2: Among Thieves after which it’s been all one way traffic in favour of PlayStation.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About Halo: Campaign Evolved Launching Day One On PS5?

MrStark

This is the end of Xbox as a console brand. There is very little reason to own an Xbox unless you have heavily invested in it.

This article still attempts to hold out hope that Xbox will still have certain games exclusive for a timed period but it’s just another moment of “holding onto hope”. Xbox is done.

When you look back at the historic launch of the original Xbox that brought us Halo Combat Evolved, it was a brilliant way for Xbox to make its entrance in the console market. Nowadays, they can hardly make a GOTY contender let alone a winner and that’s crucial because first party games are directly tied to a brand’s reputation and recognition.

That last part about games has been the chief reason why they’ve fallen off a cliff over the past decade. Gamers go where the best games are. No ifs or buts. Xbox has been in third place ever since the launch of the Xbox One.

Re: Halo: Campaign Evolved Officially Announced, Coming To Xbox In 2026

MrStark

@Banjo- People are switching to PlayStation daily. There are less and less reasons to invest in Xbox. I love Xbox but you have to realise that they’ve been incompetent for a long time.

This was a brand that gave little ground to Sony for a long time. The rivalry was so intense that back at the launch of Xbox One you couldn’t even search for PlayStation or PS4 via Bing. Microsoft disabled it. That seems like a lifetime ago now. Xbox is pretty much done.

As for PlayStation bringing their games over to Xbox, they might do but they certainly don’t need to considering they’re getting hardcore Xbox gamers coming over to them on a daily basis.
