I wish the remaster wasn't so initially underwhelming. Makes me wonder why it wasn't 60 fps for last gen systems. Even a resolution boost for this would have been nice
This week is busy for me with both Sonic Origins and the Ai Somnium Files sequel, and Naraka Bladepoint if I feel like squeezing in the time. I'm not feeling the barren desert of releases this year others seem to. And then Soul Hackers 2 is a bit farther away...
I was on the other side of the fence in the 360 era- it definitely seemed like dudebro games, just knowing it's where COD was most popular and games like Gears of War were all at. Seemed the same as a PS4 user last gen. I think when their first party cadence of new studios starts to have regular output with greater variety I will truly feel they are past that, since Halo/Forza has still been the main course this generation thus far. But it does feel more inclusive.
Interestingly the OG Xbox felt totally different to me, like a console mecca for WRPGs. And Halo.
Since I got my series console in 2020 I've earned 300,000+ rewards points. Having this console and using rewards is definitely going to have paid for itself by the generation's end.
@JayJ yeah, and even people I know with consoles seem interested in a gaming pc.
personally, I have it and enjoyed it, but I need separation from work space and play, and I rather just enjoy the simpler, ready nature of consoles, and being on the couch with my dogs and fiance instead of sequestered away.
@JayJ It's been the opposite for me. Majority of people I know own a PC, then a Playstation. But PC gaming in general has been the popular thing wherever I've lived.
Honestly? I voted for Series X. Seems crazy, we're all mostly enjoying it right now.
But it feels like a lot of the general public is more crazy about the PS5, which is fair. so it's mostly about what it feels like outside this bubble to me. original xbox would get my vote otherwise
There's a surprising amount for me to look at this year. Elden Ring has been one, and Sonic Origins is my childhood so hopefully it's a good compilation title on par with the old mega collection or gems collection releases. Frontiers could be cool, but it's hard to say with sonic team.
Otherwise everything but hogwarts that I'm interested in will be on gamepass which is very nice.
Pretty great start hardware wise. The new games aren't there, but as a first time xbox owner since the original I'm digging a lot into the backwards compatible library I missed out on with the 360. Frankly, between that and the option of game pass there is more than enough to play. Still looking forward to Halo Infinite though. I got the S which does most things pretty well, but if there is a mid gen refresh or a slim version I'll be upgrading since I like the system more than I expected.
@brunojenso The series s is my first xbox since the original, and it's hard to find performance specs for games on it outside of Digital Foundry, who understandably doesn't cover everything. If this site provided specs for both- nothing too detailed, just "x resolution at x fps" or so, I would be happy. I'm mostly pleased with my series s, except for any backwards compatible games that run in too low of a resolution. I didn't want to play a super chunky version of Nier Automata, for example.
I don't know if Xbox will really beat Sony with sales this gen, Sony's got an almost unreasonable amount of hype behind them, but they will get closer. I was all PS4 last gen and I decided I can wait on the PS5 until they make a practical slim version of it. Seems like with games being cross-gen anyway, that choice wasn't the worst one.
