It’s impressive how Xbox can outshine PlayStation with bad news. Anyways good luck trying to get that $400 million back and try to sell consoles with this.
Unfortunately but not shocking. Very selfish to say but I hope the rumor of ninja theory, compulsion, double fine, worlds edge and the flight sim team being the ones to shut down is right and the others are left,
@Banjo- lol it’s not a bad game but with wasn’t great either. Also yes of course it sold like crap on ps5 and switch 2 cause it’s a middling to average game and it released a full year later.
I do wonder if the expansive and unique single player mode could end up giving this game the edge over Forza Horizon 6, at least in terms of awards season. Playground is without question one of the best studios working today but it’s very fair to say that their single player offerings with 6 is easily its worst part. Not bad but it is its weak aspect. Either way new games in genres that do well is always good and Playgorund can definitely use some more competition in the arcade side of racing.
Not shocking but it’s also not my biggest issue with GTA 6. $80 for a code in a box is nasty work. But at least it helps my gaming schedule by freeing up November.
@BacklogBrad those games aren’t bad but they are more of the same form their developers and series and like I said good isn’t really good enough nowadays.
@BacklogBrad I am talking about making big AAA games. Not everything needs to be full AAA but Xbox didn’t have enough. Yes clockwork isn’t out yet but everything about it has been looking great. So take that out and I’ll still hold up the prime example of what a new ip/ experiences that more of Xbox’s teams should be doing like Indiana jones.
@somnambulance think ideally game pass would work like the big streamers handle movies. Have the big game launch where you make most of your money and then 6-12 months later after the game made most of its sales then you put it on game pass.
@J_Mo_Money those games being on game pass is where the “slop” allegations are coming from. with those games being 1st party and being given so long to be made they need to be better. I don’t blame those studios entirely cause it’s mainly on Xbox for doing a ***** job of managing their teams
@BacklogBrad I’m all for making new ip, but it needs to be done in a smart way. The way Xbox was doing it isn’t it. South of Midnight is a great idea in premise but it took 6+ years for a 10 hour game with middling combat that took $100 million to make. I’m all for new ip and game ideas that are actual games and at that price point they need to be great AAA games. Games like Indiana Jones and Clockwork revolution are what more Xbox teams should be doing.
@J_Mo_Money 8’s aren’t good enough when they take 6+ years or development and $100 million to make for a sub 10 hour experience with either middling combat or hardly any combat.
@BacklogBrad it’s the truth. Most games nowadays are good but there’s so many good games where good isn’t good enough. Especially if games like South of midnight and hellblade 2 take 6+ years and almost $100 million budgets too make:
@J_Mo_Money game pass is doing so well they took cod off of it day one. Game pass is the reason why studios like compulsion and ninja theory are in trouble. Phil’s idea of game pass was and isn’t sustainable.
@somnambulance rereading your comment actually think we are closer in sentiment too game pass then not. I’m more so just trying to say that while Netflix is one of the few companies in streaming that is making it work it’s still isn’t the best comparison too game pass cause subscription models just are not it for gaming.
@BacklogBrad those games are not the slop he’s talking about, and slop is too harsh of a word in most cases. He’s talking about average games from Xbox first party like avowed, south of midnight, and hellblade 2 the last two of which took too much time and money to make for as middling as they are. Xbox has had few GOTY caliber hit games. I’m talking about Indiana jones and Forza horizon levels.
@BacklogBrad cause it would lead to a more healthy business for Xbox. Subscription services are a race too the bottom, that’s the moon ceo’s main point. From a consumer yes of course it’s a great deal but it’s more short term gain and long term losses.
He’s blunt but overall he’s not wrong. Yes Xbox had good games on its service but they were available everywhere and the exclusives/ 1st party stuff for the most part has been average and that’s not good enough.
Hopefully Xbox can figure their ***** out. Under Phil everything was kinda a race too the bottom with the subscription model with good to middling games. Hopefully the exclusives are truly great and help drive console sales. Xbox has been playing catch up for the last 15 years and it might be too late.
Phil Spencer truly hurt Xbox. The chase of game pass hurt Xbox greatly. Never ending race too the bottom with devaluing games. Also how does Matt booty still have a job, but also got promoted??? Dude was there managing the studios that were given the rope to bang themselves with and got promoted cause of it. Halo infinite was in development hell and yet more studios got put under his watch on top of problems with the initiative, undead labs, rare, etc. Xbox is being ran into the ground.
@Banjo- Arkane Lyon released a well reviewed game this gen that sold well enough for a new ip. Vs compulsion and ninja theory who both released decent games that took 6+ years to make that were too short.
Unfortunate but not shocking. South of Midnight is a really cool concept but it certainly wasn’t good enough to justify 7 years of development time for such a middling game that was super short and had a very bare bones middling combat system. Would be one thing if it was Naughty Dog or if South of midnight was a 20 hr AAA 90+ epic, but it was a decent 8/10 15 ish hour game that too far too long too make.
He seemed like the wrong person for the job. His studio had development hell and yet he was promoted too be head of Xbox studio's?? Only one worse is Matt Booty utterly failing his way upward to being CCO. Seriously they need to look at obsidian or playground leadership. Or hire outside of Xbox’s broken studio leadership.
I really hope no one is gullible enough to truly believe this until it’s been several years down the line. Xbox doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Step in the right direction. But I already sold my series x last year so we’ll see I rebuy a series x next year or maybe play it on my partners series s
@Savex CD cause Xbox hasn’t had a clear concise message and vision since the 360. Xbox has screwed up since the one reveal and they always shift too what they think is the right thing without following through on it.
LOL. I hope no one is stupid enough to believe this in the short term. They said the same about Indiana Jones, Starfield and more. I hope they follow through but they absolutely do not get the benefit of the doubt.
Hopefully they are able too put the cat back in the bottle. But it’s going to take a lot of effort and long term support. I had both a series x and ps5 at launch but I sold my series x over a year ago cause they didn’t give me a real reason to own it. This is a step in the right direction but it’s going to take more then just eday and clockwork for me to even consider re buying a series x. Will say though this back and forth didn’t work out well for Xbox before so guess we’ll see if they give it the time they need to fully rebuild the trust.
Some of yall series s gamers need to realize it’s now underpowered. That’s not a bad thing and it isn’t going to stop getting games, but it absolutely makes development harder. Yes it runs on the steam deck but think for these devs they find PS5 and Steam more desirable platforms for launch then Xbox

@J_Mo_Money the fact that most of their recent output for 1st party hasn’t met expectations says otherwise

@J_Mo_Money gamers want high quality games and for the most part Xbox’s first party output has been just decent.

@HonestHick well for 99% of games it’s not sustainable to do big day one releases.
