1Gb FTTP, but download throughput depends on time of day.
Xbox midday or late at night can hit about 900Mbps, same with Steam, but it's more like 400Mbps once the kids are out at about 1500hrs through 2200 or what ISP's call peak time.
To be honest, I tend to send stuff to the console at random and let it do it's thing, so I only really see speeds when an update has chosen to delay my chance to play with the kids asleep.
Shock as a business decides to address glaring hole in revenue streams. Tribal snark and narrative peddling ensue unabated as expected. Can't think of any example of a business increasing prices in the social media age where loyal customers took it well, nor do I recall a time where there wasn't a barrage of riding the outrage pony until its hooves bled from fans of the other console.
500MB Fibre connection here Series X usually hits 61.2-63.5 MB/s which is actually about 514 Mbps. Pretty much the same as I get from Steam on the Desktop. Can't complain. There was a time when most of these services couldn't make use of an entire 250MB, let alone 500MB. I'll be interested to see whether I get a GB of throughput when the Gigabit service upgrade is installed to the building later this year.
@Martsmall Yes, I completely agree. Seem to recall Gordon Brown presiding over the meltdown of the UK economy having failed to regulate the banks during his time as UK Chancellor and PM, as well as widespread abuse of expense accounts by members of Parliament, including members of Brown’s cabinet, only to end up being offered a senior role at the IMF of all places.
Don't think he got the job, but he did still get a silver spoon from the UN or some other international banking commission.
It'll be interesting to see how the politics play out with CMA and FTC given the UK need for investment and the polarisation of the increasingly partisan US. Regulators are one thing to contend, economies are increasingly conflicting and centre stage.
@Martsmall You'd certainly hope the Chancellor see's the £ signs. It's sorta his job description to realise the CMA decision will only lead to a loss in investment and jobs in the long run.
@Ephexis83 I highly doubt the majority of politicians, typically out of touch regardless of political party, know or care about any given console or game studio.
That said, they will be familiar with the element of this that affects employment, investment, corporation taxes, and media spin.
Upsetting enormous employers and investors isn'ttypically the route politicians take (unless pandering to the lunatic extremities of the left or right), so much like not windfall taxing the energy companies back to the EU and costing us thousands of jobs and billions in investment I would think he'll be keen to avoid having Microsoft, or indeed any major tech investor, desert British shores on account of bizarre CMA decisions without factually accurate basis.

Re: Digital Foundry Highlights Dolby Atmos Issues On Xbox, Playground Games Engineer Responds
Had latency with my LG OLED, but there's none with the Samsung QN90, not so sure the TV eARC doesn't play some part here, or even the Soundbar.
Re: Talking Point: Should Xbox Make A Revised Controller With Haptic Feedback?
No, it's distracting and gimmicky even before the horrible feel of dual sense and equally gimmicky touchpad.
Feels a lot like Apple adding wireless charging like they invented it, ages after everyone else sacked it off as slow.
Would love to see something like Oppo's SuperVOOC 65w charging built in to these devices though.
