There was a lot of controversy in October of last year when Xbox announced that it was increasing the prices of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass by quite a substantial amount - XGPU went from $19.99 to $29.99 per-month.
So, it comes as no surprise that the decision had a severely detrimental effect on the number of subscribers to the service overall, with new Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball confirming in an interview yesterday that "millions" of members were lost because of the change.
The full transcription isn't available yet at the time of writing, but this specific quote has been shared a few times:
According to GameSpot (which was in attendance at the Game Business interview yesterday), the Xbox CSO also mentioned that the recent price drop for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in April "corrected that offering".
He then reportedly acknowledged that XGP Ultimate is still more expensive than it was this time last year ($23.99 compared to $19.99), but "the value has changed" for the subscription since then.
It's clear that Xbox fans voted with their wallets when the decision was made last year, especially considering how the likes of Fortnite Crew and other perks were meant to sweeten the deal, but obviously didn't have the desired effect. April's price decrease came with the removal of "day one" Call of Duty games for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass going forward, and that decision seems to have gone down well overall.
