Sony May Be Preparing Its Own Version Of Xbox Play Anywhere For PS5 & PC

Microsoft is really going big on the whole Xbox Play Anywhere program right now, especially considering the ROG Xbox Ally handheld has just released, and it sounds like Sony might be preparing to do something similar with PlayStation.

There's been a lot of chatter today about some new symbols that have been discovered relating to a "cross-buy" service that would seemingly work between PS5 and PC games, as first shown off in a Twitter post last night:

Well-known leaker billbil-kun has also shared via Dealabs Magazine that these symbols definitely do exist and were apparently added to the PlayStation website in June 2025, suggesting they're being readied for a new feature.

There's more coverage on all of this over at our sister site Push Square:

Of course, there's basically zero chance of Sony including Xbox as part of this cross-buy initiative (can you imagine if that happened?!), but it's just interesting to see that Xbox Play Anywhere is sparking a similar idea over at Sony - or at least, that's what appears to be happening.

People have pointed out that Sony has done this before with the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, so it remains to be seen exactly what form this "cross-buy" service will take - it's probably PS5 and PC games, but maybe it's for an upcoming handheld to compete with the ROG Xbox Ally as well? Only time will tell.

Anyway, this is probably a good thing for the average consumer. With Xbox and PlayStation pushing a cross-buy service, that should lead to more games being accessible across multiple platforms without having to buy them for every single device you own. The more publishers get on board with "playing anywhere", the better it is for us!
