There is less than 2.4% of the total catalogue of available titles from the Microsoft Xbox and PC digital stores on game pass. Not including Ubisoft and EA offerings. His argument isn't backed by the math. But it's not really much of an argument. It's his opinion. And not much of one at that. His studio has certainly made quite a bit of money from his games being available on Xbox.
And the idea from any source that the whole Xbox ecosystem or the games industry hinges on the profitability, success or failure of game pass in any way is absolutely ludicrous. Is every game on Game Pass great? Is every game ever great? Isn't that objective anyway? People play what they like. People also buy what they like. I have been subscribed to Game Pass since it's inception. I also still buy games as well. Am I an outlier? Hardly.
I am just a gamer who enjoys gaming.
Todays gaming culture? That's an article waiting to be written unto itself.
So far all I have seen and read is rumors, hyperbole and hearsay. No real concrete facts from any official channel's. Tom Warren at the Verge is a bit of a hack, and a known rumor monger. Kotaku has been a clickbait coven for years now. Both of those outlets seem to be reporting on and misquoting a Bloomberg story originally. The only thing that does seem like it actually happened is the two individuals who stepped down at Xbox. As in left of their own accord before they got sacked. I'm sure they are having all sorts of debates and discussions internally at Xbox as they restructure and plan out exactly what steps they are going to need to take on the path to profitability and the next gen. But only they really know. So until there are real announcements on closures, all rumors should be taken with a large grain of salt.
Reviewing something, a proper critique. Is not the same as an opinion piece. There is definitely a loss of objectivity in the modern age of Metacritic, Game Blogger's and Clickbait YouTubers. It's one of the most disturbing trends in gaming/ lifestyle journalism.
