@Echtzeit And they're not putting a gun to your head and demanding you play the games. For retro gaming lovers, this is a love letter to that time when people spent longer waiting for the game to load than the entire time you spent actually playing.
Sony is pretty much helping the doomsaying with XBOX, after they managed to force Microsoft's hand with how much they were pushing for ABK to be a failure.
In an ideal situation, Sony would have been laughed out of the court for their claims that Microsoft would destablise the market, yadda yadda yadda, by buying ABK, and they managed to weaken xCloud and get Microsoft to commit to publishing far more on Sony than they'd have liked.
The amount of concessions that Sony squeezed out of Microsoft meant that they could make the bullish statement that they could sell a console for $700... $800... $1000 and people would have to pay it 'because there's no competition' is a sign of the reality, and the various groups that went for Microsoft a year or so ago are realising only now what they were being conned about.
Hey, regulators... Care to explain why the 'weaker' company after the acquisition is releasing a eye-wateringly expensive console and trumpeting about a lack of competition, while the 'stronger' company is being forced to go multi-platform by your demands?
Really, this is only good for new fans, since 90% of existing fans already have what they like from this bundle and/or preordered Shadow Generations already.
I can understand why it would be an insult. They pretty much said "Here's $7500, on the understanding we get full control of any and all royalties,"
That would be like if someone went back in time and persuaded George Lucas to sign the royalties rights for Star Wars, or Gene Roddenberry for Star Trek, over to them for a dollar. It would only be much later before they'd realise they'd been scammed, and who knows how much money.
@RiverGenie ...Or just munch on your popcorn and ignore that there isn't a plot, it's just a bunch of random CGI monstrosities that make you really thankful they've not gone full realism on the actual game.
I do appreciate that the only changes for the Original Mode are, pretty much, 'Oops, we didn't get those done when we first developed it', meaning that you get a remastered version that's in the style of modern games...
And a classic style version that recreates all the good of the original... with the only differences being the kind of thing you'd see in a patch.
@anoyonmus I see that the reason it isn't releasing on XSX or PS5, possibly, is not because MT Framework is not supported by XSX or PS5... but that they don't need to release a native version.
The PS5 and XSX were made as backwards compatibility boxes, the Series consoles even more so since the operating system that runs both the One and Series is identical across all systems, they just changed the drive and graphics card.
The reason I am very suspicious of it is that they claim a 'memory leak' has caused the XBOX version, and specifically the XBOX version, to be 'indefinitely delayed'. Like six to twelve months delayed, maybe?
There's clear signs that neither console version should have dropped, with the PS5 version running like molasses. But with the Microsoft version, they gave it a few more weeks/months of development, while pushing the Playstation version out of the door still not fully tested.
I could see Sony not publicizing an exclusivity deal since they pretty much know that China doesn't give a flying monkey about what platform it's on. The game is out on console on Playstation first, even if it should have waited until 2025 before it came out.
Sony got the biggest slice of the console cake. Whatever reason it is, rather too many games still give Sony over half the sales, Nintendo a nice chunk of the rest... while Microsoft gets anyone who doesn't have the other two systems.
This reminds me of what happened with a Love Live game recently. They pretty much cancelled it as soon as they launched it globally, and this didn't even get a global launch.
As a bit of a warning, apparently, similar to Monster Hunter Online, don't let on you're English to anyone and everyone. They're actively kicking foreign players.
@Titntin @Decoy_Snake And the problem is that, well, if you don't release games on the platform to begin with, of course you're not going to get good sales figures on the platform.
Square Enix released FFXIV on XBOX Series X|S only a few months ago, and they're extremely pleased with the results. There's quite a lot of people with only XBOX consoles who are practically screaming for Capcom to find a workaround for whatever issue there is.
The Castlevania Dominus Collection released only this week shows that the hardware is more than capable of playing several decade old games, and I believe Power Stone had an XBOX 360 port.
Seriously, before you say 'It's just business', look for yourself at how many different genres, how many different companies, have released in the past decade highly sought after games only on Playstation 5, Switch and Steam. The metrics don't add up, and they haven't for years.
The amount that Capcom is apparently still using MT Framework is grating at this point, and seems more and more to be Capcom trying to get Microsoft to do some vague begging to them in order to keep getting the retro collections.
Why would you retire support for one platform, that's still active, and keep using the engine this much?
It reminds me of the fact Nippon Ichi has released a lot, including their entire back catalogue, on Playstation and Switch, but has never admitted why only one game got a half-hearted Microsoft Store release on PC.
Hell, if they wanted a good idea for how to do a live service game for Crash and Spyro, just rerelease Skylanders with the Skylanders sold 'blind box' virtually. The only reason Skylanders crashed and burned was that the toys and portal were an expense too many.
It's why Starlink, for all it failed as a Toys-to-life, still has a fanbase, since you didn't need to buy the toys to get the experience.
People here who claim about a 'blurry' 30 FPS, I have to wonder what they think 30 FPS is. You look at a video running at 30 FPS and one running at 60 FPS, if the frame rate is solid, you'll not notice a blind bit of difference.
To say that '30 FPS is unplayable' is a lie. The problem is when people declare that they want the Performance mode on all the time, and ignore the fact the game is also in 1080p or 1440p.
You don't get screen tearing or massive frame rate dips at 30 FPS on even a Series S, which is why a lot of games have a Quality/Performance toggle, since they know that, when you go for looking frakking gorgeous at a high frame rate, when the particles go flying and the screen starts to fill up, it's the frame rate that tanks first.
Hoyoverse engines are terribly optimized IMHO. Zenless Zone Zero has smaller hub areas and graphics that aren't much better than Honkai or Genshin, but it is unstable on practically all platforms.
I see part of why Genshin Impact isn't on One is not the X itself, but that it would need to support the base Xbox One, and that's why more and more games are jumping ship on it.
@Mustoe Microsoft makes money from each sale. Multi-platform benefits 'everyone', but the publisher makes a decent cut whatever platform it's on, and that's still going to be Microsoft.
Do you think that Microsoft makes more or less than Sony when a Sony first-party title appears on XBOX?
It would be lethal for Microsoft if Forza Motorsport got ported, but they went with the safer bet of Horizon, giving them a slice of the cake without giving them the entire box.
It would be like if Master Chief Collection went to Playstation. Yes, It's still the series that defined XBOX back on the original XBOX, but it's the games that have made their millions.
Yes, Microsoft is giving up it's big first party pillars, but if they sell well on Playstation, it's not Sony who'll be reaping the rewards.
I have to say that I call BS on that his game, just because it was 'resealed', loses that much value.
Pretty much unplayed OG XBOX games, sealed or otherwise, are extremely valuable to the right collector. That kind of lowballing is all over the pawn shops.
The remaster fixes what needed to be fixed and kept what didn't... despite people complaining about camera angles and similar.
The Crash Bandicoot series is more about learning patterns and getting better and better at the levels. I put a veteran of the games up against Crash 4, and they had dozens of embarrassing deaths.
If they made a Crash game where there were no frustrating bottomless pits and surprise deaths, it would not be as fun as the OG games.
@NEStalgia Yes and No. Yes, Humanity was recovering after the End Of Days came early, but the answer to what had caused it all was still unknown and unsolved, and someone could go out and 'finish the job'. Which might be where we're going with this new game.
Whether or not it's MT Framework or Capcom just not wanting to release on XBOX, the amount of games that are 'chicken and egg' problems is rising, and Microsoft DO need to fix that.
If Microsoft do nothing, they could lose Capcom and other companies entirely as companies decide to use the current update 'bug' to declare that they are skipping new content on XBOX or not releasing at all 'until the bug is fixed', when it's really that Microsoft is not getting good sell-through because, hey, less and less people are making that first commitment.
There's a few games with additional 'items' included in the base client, and I've rarely had problems with them. Yes, Two... and soon three... games all installing as part of one item, it will get bloated.
But for those who do play Call Of Duty, this isn't painful at all.
@InterceptorAlpha Smart Delivery is designed to, with Series X|S, the correct version of the game when supported. Some games, like GTA5 and WWE 2K, have not got Smart Delivery, so you end up with a redundant version.
What's happening here, if I'm right, is similar to what happened deliberately with Final Fantasy XIV for v7.0, where the entire game is being reinstalled as a update. Not something that happens often.
Capcom's insistence on doing things like this on MT Framework, when they know full well it's depreciated on XBOX, is effectively snubbing Microsoft in the most polite way possible.
They already made at least two successor engines, but they're acting like the porting to the new engine would be 'too expensive' or 'too difficult'...
Capcom made the MT Framework engine. Capcom ceased support for XBOX. Capcom are the root cause of this skipping XBOX. No-one else.
The people who are going 'I'm with the FTC' pretty much are falling for the FTC's BS this time around. Microsoft can't change their tiers or anything without either the FTC or CMA crying wolf and declaring that they should unmerge from ABK and accept the penalties. Oh, and ABK should be sold to someone else. Rhymes with Bony. They need the support so much more than Microsoft.
FFS, the entire industry has been hurt by things like COVID, but Microsoft need to decouple everything possible so they expose their beating heart to a killshot from Sony.
What Microsoft did was fix some major issues with Game Pass going forward, and reshuffle the pricing as a result.
As quite a few people have mentioned, Game Pass 'Console' never had multiplayer, so people were buying content they didn't need or want at a premium.
Now, you can get a version of Game Pass with console support, including multiplayer, and a slower rollout on Game Pass games, which probably won't affect that many people badly, or go with the premium 'everything' tier.
Game Pass Ultimate offers xCloud, Game Pass PC, Game Pass Console, Early Access to some titles... a heck of a lot, for a price that was hella cheap for how much you got. And still is a really good price.
The FTC are pretty much going 'Oh look, they DID put up their prices!' and likely are going to try to claim the exceptionally delayed ABK rollout was Microsoft's fault.
Yeah, it's their fault, and not the fact that Microsoft and ABK likely tore up the original schedule since it went down to the wire on if it would go through at all, because of the FTC and CMA being heavily biased and pro-Sony.
Microsoft lost a lot dealing with the FTC, and the FTC are right now trying to go 'Wah Wah Wah! Mr. Appeals Judge, please let us force them to change the rules on Call Of Duty back! Sony were right to tell them that it had to be at least six months before it released on Game Pass!'
If Microsoft, Microsoft ABK and Hasbro got together at a table and went 'Hey, let's rerelease/remaster the Cybertron Trilogy', surprisingly, Hasbro are just waiting for them to ask!
Multiple sources close to Hasbro are seriously baffled as to why Microsoft (or Activision) never approached them earlier.
Also, I wish to correct the article. All three games ARE backwards compatible and have been for god knows how long.
@NEStalgia Any Bubsy Fan: Do you want a list? Seriously, The 3D game was terrible, The cartoon show didn't get beyond the pilot...
Hopefully, the Purrfect Collection will be what Bubsy needs to actually survive in the modern age... or it will fail miserably like everything else he touches.
@mousieone If you look at the list, quite a lot of the games you mention are MT Framework games, which is the big confusion here. MT Framework 2.x was specifically made for support for XBOX One and Playstation 4, and quite a few games released from 2018 to 2022 are both MT Framework 2.0 and XBOX One compatible.
That's why I said earlier on that, if the MT Framework 2.x games from around 2018 onwards stopped supporting XBOX One entirely, instead of selectively, I'd believe that it was the engine.
Capcom know how to use their own in-house engine, and Capcom know that quite a few games were developed with MT Framework, so they DID update it to support XBOX One. But apparently, with several collections, one or more parts haven't come to XBOX One with no pattern at all to what's releasing and what isn't.
There's no consistency to MT Framework support, which is highly unusual, and makes me believe whatever sources are being cited... are either white lying or scamming Microsoft to hide the real reason they aren't releasing on XBOX.
As I say further up, Capcom themselves declared the MT Framework toolset to be depreciated. I'd understand the Ace Attorney games using MT, since they were developed in it, but the fact that they've built emulators in RE Engine, but they decide to stiff the XBOX by using MT for the Fighting Collection...
And a lot of the features that Fighting Collection has... They've been proven to work in RE Engine's emulators, so it's not that. The unlocking of boss characters is a dip switch, not a engine feature, so Capcom's use of MT for both this and Fighting Collection, when their own staff stopped using it for anything other than Monster Hunter, was a deliberate choice.
@mousieone You look at the MT Framework wikipedia page, and there's been no confirmed games made for MT Framework on console since 2022, other than the MvC Collection, where Capcom abruptly declare that support for the XBOX One 'expired' arbitrarily 'a few years back', never mind that Capcom themselves supposedly stopped supporting MT Framework years ago to use RE Engine.
That's why I find Capcom's claim dubious. If they stopped releasing MT Framework games on Windows and XBOX outright in 2018, and stuck to it, I'd believe this claim. But as it is, the claim doesn't hold water.
Capcom Fighting Collection was released in 2022, and released fine on everything. The whole declaration that they 'stopped supporting XBOX in the last few years' seems very dubious with that one example.
Capcom seem to be telling Microsoft one thing while they're doing another. I almost think Capcom are trying to figure out how much to fleece Microsoft for as part of 'porting costs', when the whole fact the games run on PC says that they can run on XBOX fine.
@anoyonmus @InterceptorAlpha Considering I think MT Framework and RE Engine are effectively 'in-house' engines, It feels like Capcom are using MT Framework as a way to 'get out of jail free' on the usual excuses.
The XBOX Series has a terrible install base... Microsoft's strategy is toxic to the general player base... Sony are good for the market...
The sheer amount of naysaying about Microsoft here is terrible. Microsoft's stance of zero exclusivity is the breath of fresh air the market needs. Pretty much 99% of games release on Playstation, while Nintendo and Microsoft have their first party releases and whatever games are deemed capable of running on Switch... or Microsoft actively negotiate a release for.
I don't see Sony having to ask any publisher for a game, they just get it, and it's been that way for several generations. If they don't get it, it's a first or second-party developer for the 'competition'. ABK revealed how Sony doesn't negotiate for them to get a game, they negotiate for how much they can poison the negotiations that Microsoft does.
Seriously, Some of the XBOX skips I can just about get 'low sales', but some of them never even try. It's where we had to wait months or years for games like Danganronpa, while Sony gets everything day and date.
Whenever a game comes to Playstation, Switch and Steam at release, I die a little inside, since the companies don't even try to make an excuse, they just do it and hope no-one notices.
What a difference two decades of advancement in computing technology has made. People actually look like people, animals look much healthier and the Titans look genuinely terrifying.
Now we just need the actual gameplay to not tank within hours of starting playing.
The most conspicuous thing, for me, was that there was a LOT less ABK stuff than I expected, and probably quite a few others as well. Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 and World Of Warcraft.
For someone coming to it on the back of the acquisition, it was a terrible showcase, since it was pretty much the XBOX Game Studios, Bethesda and Other Partners Showcase.
Microsoft, let's have a proper Activision showcase soon, K, Thx.
@tristanfey The way in which Sony gatekept Spiderman himself for Rivals is the way I want them to do it. Do you see Sony requiring that Peter and Peni Parker is a six month exclusive? No. They're saying that ONE costume out of an unknown number is Playstation exclusive at launch. Gwen Stacy could easily roll out as part of an update, and Sony aren't going to go nuts demanding she's not coming to anything else for several months to a year.

Re: Microsoft Says FTC Is Being 'Misleading' In Response To Xbox Game Pass Criticisms
Re: Talking Point: 10 Years On From 'Rise Of The Dark Spark', Should Activision Bring Back Transformers?
@shoeses Fall Of Cybertron and Rise Of The Dark Spark are right now listed as XBOX One/Series compatible on the XBOX store.
They just cannot be bought digitally, and have to use an original disc.
Re: Talking Point: 10 Years On From 'Rise Of The Dark Spark', Should Activision Bring Back Transformers?
If Microsoft, Microsoft ABK and Hasbro got together at a table and went 'Hey, let's rerelease/remaster the Cybertron Trilogy', surprisingly, Hasbro are just waiting for them to ask!
Multiple sources close to Hasbro are seriously baffled as to why Microsoft (or Activision) never approached them earlier.
Also, I wish to correct the article. All three games ARE backwards compatible and have been for god knows how long.
Re: Random: Xbox Owner Turns Original Console Into Powerful Gaming PC
How to make an original XBOX lose weight and get updated several dozen times over in several fairly easy steps.
Unfortunately, it now can't natively run XBOX Classic games.
Re: Multiple Games Announced For Xbox At Limited Run 2024 Showcase
@NEStalgia Any Bubsy Fan: Do you want a list?
Seriously, The 3D game was terrible, The cartoon show didn't get beyond the pilot...
Hopefully, the Purrfect Collection will be what Bubsy needs to actually survive in the modern age... or it will fail miserably like everything else he touches.
Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox
Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox
Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox
Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox
Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox
@anoyonmus @InterceptorAlpha Considering I think MT Framework and RE Engine are effectively 'in-house' engines, It feels like Capcom are using MT Framework as a way to 'get out of jail free' on the usual excuses.
Re: Xbox Set To Miss Out On Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
@Pabpictu @InterceptorAlpha
Re: Xbox Set To Miss Out On Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection
Re: Forza Horizon 5 'Universal Icons' Car Pack Brings Star-Studded Lineup To Xbox
For all of those people who have a DMC-12 in their car collection purely due to Doc's car and similar, $10 is pocket change.
Yes, it's 'expensive', but the cars are ones that various people would give their eye teeth to have genuine versions of in any racing game.
Re: Age Of Mythology: Retold Gets Huge Upgrade In Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison
What a difference two decades of advancement in computing technology has made. People actually look like people, animals look much healthier and the Titans look genuinely terrifying.
Now we just need the actual gameplay to not tank within hours of starting playing.
Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2024?
The most conspicuous thing, for me, was that there was a LOT less ABK stuff than I expected, and probably quite a few others as well. Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 and World Of Warcraft.
For someone coming to it on the back of the acquisition, it was a terrible showcase, since it was pretty much the XBOX Game Studios, Bethesda and Other Partners Showcase.
Microsoft, let's have a proper Activision showcase soon, K, Thx.
Re: New Free-To-Play PVP Shooter 'Marvel Rivals' Locks In Xbox Release
@tristanfey The way in which Sony gatekept Spiderman himself for Rivals is the way I want them to do it.
Do you see Sony requiring that Peter and Peni Parker is a six month exclusive? No.
They're saying that ONE costume out of an unknown number is Playstation exclusive at launch.
Gwen Stacy could easily roll out as part of an update, and Sony aren't going to go nuts demanding she's not coming to anything else for several months to a year.
