Re: Talking Point: After Almost Two Years, How Do You Feel About Xbox's Starfield In 2025?

10k is still a hefty number for sure, but it's the content that's important. As you pointed out a lot of UI and ship stuff, but nothing of any real significance.

I've several Skyrim mods that are whole, new islands that incorporate major gameplay updates. One of which is a Dark-Souls themed island complete with the stark difficulty and AI patterns the Souls series is known for.

Re: Talking Point: After Almost Two Years, How Do You Feel About Xbox's Starfield In 2025?

Never played it, likely never will. I always thought it looked as dull as dishwater and outside of a few dire-hard Xbox fans, who were desperate for it to be the second coming for Xbox, the general consensus is that it is as dull as dish water.

Maybe I might reconsider when I can get it for under a tenner then I'll mod it. However, even mods for Starfield are thin on the ground next to some of Bethesda's other titles.

@Ricky-Spanish

"Only Sony fan boys believe Xbox gamers don't but games I'm sorry to say!"

Well considering I don't own a PS5 I guess I'm letting the side down.

The numbers don't lie. Through GP Xbox users buy less games than those who predominantly game on PC and Nintendo consoles. That's a fact.

In my experience those who label others "fanboys" often do so because 1) they don't have a sound counter-argument and 2) they're often fanboys themselves. Are you a fanboy, Mr. Spanish?

"It's like buying netflix and buying any new films on that it makes no sense!!"

That's a terrible analogy. Just because you can rent a product doesn't mean you should never invest in owning said product.

Re: PlayStation Is Publishing Helldivers 2 On Xbox, Signalling A Shift In Strategy From Sony

As others have already stated, HD2 is a 3rd party IP.

To quote @Fiendish-Beaver it's more likely "a concession from Sony. Not to Xbox or Microsoft, but to Arrowhead"

This isn't an indication of seeing first party PlayStation titles arriving on Xbox. It's been a rough week for sure, but I wouldn't start getting your hopes up about something that is unlikely to happen any time soon, if at all.

Support does get pulled, but you can still rock older versions of Windows. My other rig, (one in the study), still is Win10, for example and no probs. Of course some will recommend Linux, but while a great format it makes things more of a pain with Steam etc.
Any new build you invest in will have the latest version of Windows. It's up to you to upgrade or not, but it's rarely a requirement for gaming.

@Kaloudz

£800 will get you something good enough and yes you can upgrade and with ease. Prior to my new build I spent around £900 on my first proper gaming PC then upgraded. Even without the upgrade it still comfortably outshone PS4 and X1. The upgrade pushed it past PS5/Series X at the cost of just one of those consoles. I still have it in my study, with the new build in my living room.

The initial lay out is the expensive part, but after that's it's far more affordable and better bang for you buck long term.

A tower is better. Also , as you say, better value if you shop around. My advise is to research, choose the parts you want then get it custom built if you can't do it yourself.

As for games, it all comes down to how well they're optimised. I've a beast so can throw anything at it and get the best results, however bad development is bad development and so some games run crap regardless of one's rig. It's rare though as a good rig will just bulldozer it's way through.

Good PC gaming is great when you know how, but while far easier to work than 20 years ago it's not as straightforward as a console and I would never claim otherwise. However, you don't buy a Ferrari and expect the ease of running it as you would a Ford Fiesta. 😉

Most games will will work below minimum, settings, it's just a case of how well.

Here's E33

Minimum specs:
Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 6GB or equivalent graphics card.

Recommended specs:
Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 3060 Ti or equivalent. A 64-bit processor and operating system are also required

Resident Evil 9 minimum estimates are Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 series processor, or better, to handle the game's engine and physics.
16 GB RAM or more.
AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

Truth is the kind of games you're asking to play requires a lot more than you're probably aiming for.

"And no, you don't need to spend $3000 to build a good gaming PC"

No, you don't. That is and always was a fallacy cooked up by the console-only crowd. You can spend £3k if you want, but it's not necessary. I spent £1300 on mine and it eats the PS5 and Series X for lunch with added dessert.

@Millionski

True, but now all destined to become PlayStation regulars.

Contrary to how I may seem I take no relish in any of this. I've been a fan of Xbox since the OG Xbox and its impossibly big controller. I stood in line at midnight to get my hands on one with DOA 4, Rallisport Challenge and Halo.

It's sad to see it come to this.

"everything just highlights that there’s no strategy or even a long term vision for Xbox"

Those not with their head in the sand have known this for some time.
But you're always going to see a strong amount of spin and damage control from the Xbox faithful. I even understand why given how much they've invested in the brand. I'd like to think the realisation that Microsoft/Xbox are not their friends and are a business like any other might now sink in...but I doubt it.

It really is the equivalent of Saddam Hussein's Information Minister, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, claiming everything is fine as the city burns down behind him.

"Could be Sony is releasing a PC with PlayStation logo slapped on it"

No, I'm afraid not and there is absolutely nothing to suggest otherwise.
It's only Microsoft heading down this path. Today's news across the Xbox landscape only serves to confirm Microsofts paradigm shift for their "console division"
Denial is not a place in Egypt.
