Well based on what valve are saying on the pricing, this is certainly the end for Xbox as we know it, which after this year they thoroughly deserve.
This machine will offer gamepass, xbox and sony games they brought to steam, all multiplatform games and the amazing indie and pc exclusive games. Also, don't forget those £70 games on xbox and ps5 are usually less than £40 at launch on pc. Throw in cdkeys etc and it's hard to recommend another console.
The specs are low and the cost is low, but I'll get one to replace where the Xbox won't be next gen - under the tv.
To those suggesting 8gb vram is low - the gpu is basically a 7600m. It's a mid to high quality level 1080p card. It will be able to do limited rt. This is more than enough. 4k/60 is with FSR, however this being a pc there are plenty of games that will hit that and higher, but not titles like Indiana jones (vram won't be an issue there though as this gpu will not be able to push the features that gobble the vram).
I'm genuinely excited, partly because I think this is an incredible product at a perfect time, but I do love to see chickens come home to roost.
Oh and don't forget no cost to play online. If this is marketed right and priced correctly, there will be some serious pant ***** going on at sony and m$
I'll still have a month of gamepass paid up, for Nov but if the Outer Worlds 2 is decent I'll buy that from loaded in Jan for a bargain. It's a shame MS owns these studios (I hope Obsidian doesn't end up being fully ruined by MS like so many others) but I'll be looking to avoid paying for any MS owned game going forward where I can, but if I do it will be in a heavy sale.
@themightyant Yes. The price is now at the point where it is not worth me using the service, rather I go back to buying what I want (on GOG). 20x 80+ metacritic games a month means nothing when they are not to my taste or physically do not have enough time to play them. Tbh all subscription services are going through a take the piss cycle, it's a good time to have a break.
On a handheld I agree. If not benchmarking I'd cap 60 unless a locked 90 is available. Most steam deck games I'm more than happy playing at 60.
However if it's involving frame gen then the actual base frame rate needs to be higher than 60 without it. Otherwise it feels utterly horrible to play.
I hope the 'crutch' for low performance isn't just 'use frame gen', because its really only useful to 'fill out' frames from say 90/120 up to a monitors refresh.
I'm in the same boat. If they can't be arsed to fix aspects of the base game after a year then I don't see why I'd go in for more. Also £20 for 4hrs is a bit necky.
Maybe in a sale, maybe never. It all depends on when they patch the OG game to unlock my broken achievements. If not, well they can blow it out their ass. The performance issues on PC are a nuisance also, and last time I checked were still there. Sukothai? More like SukVRAM.
@jumpin_jeeps good luck. I do recall a few options (PC) that really helped but it's been a year now - hopefully you find them because this game was a massive highlight.
@jumpin_jeeps possibly increase FOV and any options to do with sway and motion blur. Something about this game makes it a bit unsettling, probably the in body camera movements
It's very very similar to the previous, but takes little time to get back into and up to speed. The game at its core is good, but the performance is very poor.
@XxEvilAshxX yep. So they should have adjusted that. I remember the old days of having to press Y in the hard drive on the secret menu to clear the cache or something. But it was because I interacted with every prop in every room without fail. I also had a room that was just junk I'd dumped on a big pile. That save file got unruly fast.
Haven't figured out why blue prints is supposed to be so good yet. Couple of hours on it and it's actually pretty annoying and I've only seen two basic puzzles so far. Probably missing something with the rooms, or maybe its just a play it a lot and unlock things to make runs better kind of thing. Glad I haven't paid for it so far...
It's great on the PC. But I was shocked trying to play it on my Xbox that quality is unplayable and performance looks like a different game (much worse), is smeary and blurry and very variable performance. I've yet to try streaming it to the deck, so hopefully the small screen helps with the blurry smeary picture via console. Shame if it doesn't as I'm really enjoying the game it's a great and weird game.
It's the last console I'll ever buy outside of a Nintendo offering.
With all the games showing up on PC, for significantly cheaper, with better or the same control options and significantly, hugely better visuals and framerates it's a no brainer.
I tried still wakes the deep on my X and it was 30fps like looking at it through vaseline without the bells and whistles. Performance mode was a vile smeary mess. Boot it up on the PC and it's pushing 150fps at max settings. It's just too big of a gulf. I've not found a reason to turn my Xbox or ps5 on, bar using the xbox to stream Goldeneye or a simple indie game to my steam deck.
I fear unless consoles are willing to up the price points significantly, and/or invest heavily into Nvidia and their DLSS solutions then they are never going to look good or perform well and certainly not both at once on 'AAA' or visually challenging games.
Saddest part is it means to experience GTA6 is once again playing through a blurry 30fps or lower mess with a bunch of pop in, poor graphics and controller latency just like GTA5. At least we won't have to run it off a thumb drive to reduce the pop in errors this time or whatever that was 🙄
I think it is an absolute farce that once again a gamepass game releases feature incomplete (DLSS) so I have to decide between a grainy/noisy image at a lower frame rate, or wait a long time to play it properly.

@TuscanUK
How is 7.9 any different to 79? It's still a 100 point scale basically.
Re: Stalker 2 Team Shares Parting Message Ahead Of Xbox Game Pass Departure
Barely playable when I gave it a go. Too much on to go back and hope it works now.

Re: Huge Xbox Report Details 'Ambitious' Next-Gen Console With Free Online Play
Laughable.
Is this going to be largely the same OS that leaves 30% performance on the table vs running linux?
Re: Huge Xbox Report Details 'Ambitious' Next-Gen Console With Free Online Play
@Markatron84 'yet'

Jeez. Xbox is definitely gone isn't it? Within a few years? Within twelve months?

Anyone still got gamepass like?

That means absolutely nothing. Empty words.
Xbox is dead to me now, just the scale of the price hike and just after 'record profits'. On principle, ***** off 👍
Re: Xbox Game Pass Premium May Be The Best-Value Tier Right Now, With Almost 50 Games Added
Nah dude.
Gamepass is done for me now.

Re: Digital Foundry's Helldivers 2 Review Is Here, And There's A Weird Lighting Issue On Xbox
Runs like ***** on a good PC. This is actually surprising in terms of performance on the consoles, especially the S, from my perspective.

Absolutely not until they fix the base game. I still don't have '100%' despite having 100%. Infuriating.

The original did the same. I think it was due to the physics props accumulating.

What's the issue. Films run at 24fps. It's even more cinematic 😂

Re: Warner Bros Reveals Why Gotham Knights Will Be 30FPS On Xbox Series X|S
This game is begging to fail. 60fps is the BARE minimum for a game in 2022. No chance at 30fps.
