'The Idea Is Not Dead' - Xbox Boss Explains Why She's Still Keen On A Mobile Store

For years now, we've been hearing about potential plans for Xbox to build a mobile store that could compete with the likes of the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, but nothing has ever come of it (there's a storefront on the actual Xbox app itself, but it's only for buying console and PC games rather than mobile titles).

Windows Central put out a report today suggesting that the Xbox mobile store idea might have been killed off due to an error message when navigating to the "Mobile Store" page on the official Xbox website, but Xbox boss Asha Sharma has been quick to respond to it, explaining that the "idea of an Xbox mobile store is not dead".

Here's a look at her response:

There's a little bit of hesitation by Sharma due to her admission that she's still "learning" the ins and outs, but it certainly sounds as though Microsoft is going to continue pursuing a mobile store that can house the likes of Candy Crush and Minecraft in the future.

It won't be easy though. The original belief was that Xbox was going to launch its mobile store back in 2024, but then nothing ever came of it. In May of 2025, Microsoft complained that its store plans were being "stymied" by Apple.

Who knows what the situation is right now, but we'll certainly keep an eye out for any further developments — this is one pre-Asha Sharma initiative that sounds like it's still very much top-of-mind for Team Xbox and Microsoft.
