You may hear about a game called Masters of Albion this week — it's launching on April 22nd for just PC at first, but we're expecting an Xbox version in the future, and it's being helmed by none other than Fable creator, Peter Molyneux.

The game is described as a "bold reimagining of the God Game genre from the creator who defined it", featuring lots of exploration, combat, town building and management elements, and a "God Hand" with which you can take control of Albion however you like.

Despite being so heavily involved in projects like the Fable games and the Black or White series, Molyneux says the launch of Masters of Albion on Wednesday marks the most significant event in his life other than the birth of his son, and therefore the most important part of his 40-year career (it's also apparently going to be his last game).

We've speculated a bit about Masters of Albion's Xbox console release date before, but as things stand, we're not really expecting an Xbox Series X or S release until 2027. The game is going to be in early access for around 12 months at least, and then we assume console ports might be in the works for the full 1.0 launch.

Still, this is one to watch — a potentially worthy pickup for the ROG Xbox Ally as well, as the game has been optimised for the Steam Deck with a few quality-of-life features such as an auto-scaling UI. Just keep in mind that Masters of Albion is intended for mouse and keyboard, so it might be better to dock the system or play on a traditional PC.

A bold reimagining of the God Game genre from the creator who defined it. Shape a living world as a god - or step into it and experience it through your people. Build, guide and defend your town by day, then survive the night when everything is under threat. There is no single solution. Only yours.

If you don't want to wait and you're eager to play something with "Albion" in the title on Xbox this week, we've got an alternative for you! The popular MMO Albion Online has launched for free today on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

This was announced a little while ago, and now it's finally become available on the Xbox Store.

Like Masters of Albion, Albion Online is not directly connected to Fable, but instead is set in a "open medieval fantasy world" where you can build a life that involves everything from crafting and fishing to engaging in massive battles.

There are special perks for this one if you're an Xbox Game Pass subscriber (to any tier) as well, allowing you to get a Green Knight vanity and mount, 100,000 Fame, 3 days of Premium status, and 3000 Victory Emote charges.

We're eager to try both Masters of Albion and Albion Online, and of course we're also extremely hyped for the actual reboot of Fable from Playground Games that arrives later in 2026 — that one's hopefully still on course for a Fall release.
