One of the big announcements at last night's State of Play event was a new Castlevania game known as Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, and it's since been confirmed for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as well.

This is being created as part of the series' 40th anniversary celebrations, and it's said to "capture the essence of Castlevania while bringing fresh innovation." In a message on the official Castlevania website (thanks for the spot, Nintendo Life), it's mentioned that the game marks the "beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania."

First up is this title: ‘Castlevania: Belmont's Curse’. We couldn’t think in other studios to work together rather than Evil Empire and Motion Twin, studios brimming with talent and passion, to deliver a new exploration-based 2D action game that captures the essence of Castlevania while bringing fresh innovation.

This is the beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania.

No specific release date has been revealed for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse just yet, but we know it's definitely supposed to be coming at some point in 2026... hopefully long before the end of the year!

It's also worth noting here that the developer is Evil Empire Studios (Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, Brotato, The Rogue Prince of Persia), while they're also being assisted by Motion Twin (Dead Cells).

We'll leave you with a few more details along with screenshots for the game down below.

Over two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and the recent animated show, it is in the streets of 15th century Paris that a new chapter of the legendary House Belmont is about to be written in bloody red ink. Armed with a legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor – and the game’s protagonist – must descend into the city attacked by monstrous creatures and a looming mystical castle to hunt down the beasts and save the Parisians from eternal darkness.

Long-time fans and newcomers to the franchise will have to master different weapons and spells to arm themselves against foes. Plus, a sense of exploration will favour the bold and those who dare explore every inch of the sinister castle.
