Next week marks the arrival of Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox for the very first time as part of the new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, and that collection is unsurprisingly getting some great review scores ahead of release.
The collection also includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (the HD Collection version), and you can choose to buy each of these games separately if you'd prefer. Buying the collection grants you access to a few extra goodies though, including the first ever handheld MGS game in the form of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel from 2000.
So, here's what the reviews are saying about this one (although keep in mind they're all based on the PS5 version, as Xbox codes don't seem to have been widely circulated yet):
VGC (5/5)
"It's hard to think of a better collection of games than those on Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. Even if Metal Gear Solid 4 wasn't such a prize for players who haven't been able to revisit it for so long, the game, divorced of that context, is still excellent. While they're less headline grabbing, Peace Walker and Ghost Babel both sit alongside the very best of the franchise. An unmissable collection for Metal Gear fans."
CGM (9/10)
"Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 brings with it two fantastic games, including one of PlayStation 3's best exclusives brought back to life like a shot of nanomachine suppressors to the leg."
Noisy Pixel (9/10)
"Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is a faithful preservation package that finally frees Metal Gear Solid 4 from the PS3 while giving Peace Walker and Ghost Babel another chance to shine. It does little to modernize the games beyond making them accessible, but strong ports, worthwhile extras, and the enduring quality of the originals make this an easy recommendation for longtime fans."
COGConnected (8.5/10)
"Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 features some of the best games in the series. MGS 4 is without doubt a masterpiece, and this port improves on the original by adding a locked frame rate. While Peace Walker is the same as the previous port, it’s still a brilliant game that offers a co-operative spin on the formula. The GBC adventure tops off the package, highlighting the diversity of experiences that have defined the franchise."
Push Square (8/10)
"After nearly twenty years chained to the proverbial radiator that is the PlayStation 3, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally arrives on PS5. The nanomachines, the fashion model robot monsters, the flamenco dance battle, the fried eggs, the cigarette smoking underpants monkey, and that ridiculous final boss, all running at 60 frames-per-second and looking better than ever. This is good, isn't it?"
