We're now less than a week away from the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X! With such little time left to go until the launch, it's no surprise that the handheld has started to crop up in more and more places.
Over on the Xbox Ally Reddit, multiple people have pointed out that Best Buy is openly stocking the system in a specific store - and apparently one person asked an employee to "ring it up" for them, but they were told it wasn't possible!
What's perhaps even more interesting is that TIME Magazine has praised the ROG Xbox Ally X as one of the "best inventions of 2025", including it in a big new feature on the outlet's website.
Here's what TIME has to say about the system:
"Gaming habits have become more portable, and the ROG Xbox Ally X is ASUS and Microsoft’s response to the trend. The two companies partnered to build a powerful handheld console that’s designed to meet players across platforms. “It would have been easy mode for us to make another walled garden,” says Jason Beaumont, vice president of Xbox experiences at Microsoft. “But [players] wanted to be able to play their games regardless of where they came from.” Launching in October, the handheld can play compatible games from across a user’s PC or Xbox library. And because the device runs Windows 11, it can play PC games from third-party storefronts, too."
There are a few other bits of brand-new footage and impressions doing the rounds online, but we're a bit hesitant to share it - some of the footage seems to have been recorded quite poorly and isn't representative of the kind of experience that players are actually getting, while impressions are just very few-and-far between as things stand.
If you're curious though, we did share the first "quick review" of the ROG Xbox Ally X that we came across last week, and a French YouTuber gave us 45 minutes of gameplay footage just a few days ago. Here's hoping we'll have loads more reviews and impressions going live alongside the release next Thursday!
