Back 4 Blood - the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series - is getting an open beta next month, allowing players to test out the multiplayer shooter before it arrives as part of Xbox Game Pass this October.

The open beta weekend will take place between August 12-16, giving players a taste of two campaign maps and two swarm mode locations. Accompanying this are five playable characters and six Ridden - the game's infected - to try out. It will also allow for full cross-play, ensuring you can match up with friends on other platforms.

If you want to play even earlier, there's also another beta taking place a week before this one on August 5-9, but it's exclusively reserved to anyone who has pre-ordered the game.

Here's everything you can expect to find during the two beta weekends:

Back 4 Blood was announced to be joining Game Pass on day one (October 12) during E3 last month. It's being helmed by some of the original Left 4 Dead team and incorporates a bunch of elements found in the original Valve series. This could be a good excuse to check it out and see if its worth the storage space when it launches later this year.
