No matter what your view is on gaming, it seems The Simpsons Hit & Run is a universally adored game - that's a fact. Nope, we won't hear otherwise. Despite releasing all the way back in 2003 (it's almost 20 years old!), fans still reminisce over this game on a regular basis. C'mon, how many times have you gone onto social media to see a nostalgic post about this classic game?
Reddit users have been discussing how they would love to see the game added onto Xbox Game Pass, or at least made backwards compatible, and to be honest, we do too. Realistically, it's most likely not going to happen due to licensing issues, but in our ideal dream world where Phil Spencer makes all our dreams come true, we're absolutely playing The Simpsons Hit & Run on our Xbox Series X consoles right now.
For all three of you who haven't played the game, it's essentially a Grand Theft Auto clone, using the characters and world of the classic cartoon. Primarily, the missions focus around vehicle based tasks, but there is the odd platforming section sprinkled in there. Fans of the show absolutely loved all the little Easter Eggs littered throughout, such as Jasper residing within the Kwik-E-Mart freezer. Even after all these years, the graphical art style of the game holds up, and with the show's voice actors giving it their all, it's the definitive Simpsons game.
But the real question is, do you want to see the game made backwards compatible in the future? While we've mentioned it's unlikely, never say never. Just look at MLB The Show 21 being added to Xbox Game Pass on day one - who saw that coming? We're living in an Xbox era where anything is possible, and let's be honest, the game would sell a bucket load of copies if it was ever revitalised.
Where do you stand in The Simpsons Hit & Run camp? Let us know in the comments below.

One of the reasons I still have an original Xbox around. This and the Arcade game are the best Simpsons games ever made.
The problem is; if this is backwards compatible, then when the inevitable remaster comes around, it will likely skip Xbox and just go to Nintendo and Sony as has been the case with a few games recently (e.g the Star Wars games). Otherwise yes please.
I never played this one.... I did love Simpsons Road Rage on OG xbox.
@K1LLEGAL the Star Wars games were closer to ports than remasters tbh.
Love this game and I’m all for it. A sequel would be better
Can't I have my steamed hams and eat it too? It's not even a question for me, I'd love this and every other Xbox game to be made backwards compatible. Even if they didn't sell them in the store and I had to track down second hand copies.
Not before Rez, Ridge Racer 6, Transformers War for/Fall of Cybertron and Jet Set Radio Future.
The only one that I want more is "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer"...and of course it's sequel, "Chaos Bleeds". But I'd settle just for the first one. It's a crime that more people don't know about what is really a revolutionary title.
I still have this on Gamecube. Love it still to this day.
I would rather have The Simpsons Arcade made available again, but this would also be nice.
@K1LLEGAL
Well I actually couldn't tell any difference between the Xbox versions of Republic Commando and Jedi academy the remastered ones in someways with the enhancements the Xbox versions seems better and certainly ran better than the switch versions
Simpson, HOMER Simpson, he's the greatest guy in history!
From the TOWN of Springfield, he's about to hit a chestnut tree!! AAAHHHH!!!
Yeah. I want many more Xbox1 games added to the BC list in general. And Hit & Run especially since it is pretty dang fun (I don't think any one Simpsons game is truly great, but this one is up there with EA's The Simpsons Game and Konami's Simpsons Arcade game as contender for best game to come out of the whole IP)... though I genuinely believe Hit & Run's had enough heat on it in recent years that someone will just try to get an HD Remake done a la Crash, Spyro, Spongebob, etc. sooner rather than later.
But yeah, whatever it takes to snap Microsoft back into BC mode. They have to get both MechAssaults on there, and Blinx 2, and Magatama (don't even translate it; I just wanna play it, I don't care), and Sudeki.... just dozens of other games. Heck, just Microsoft's OWN games even; I recognize it's tricky in cases where, like, third parties have plans of their own for the future of the IP, or where there's licensed cars or soundtracks involved (I don't expect Def Jam Fight for NY to ever become backwards compatible, sadly).
Look, I just want to see Microsoft throw some activity at backwards compatibility again. Especially since Sony's being terrible with their stuff at the moment and it's done a lot to refocus people on BC and game preservation right now.
Y'know how expensive physical games from the sixth gen are getting nowadays? Last two years have seen greedy collectors universally pump up the prices of old games to full retail at MINIMUM. And there's a ton now that are going for a hundred or more. The more ways there are to replay older titles in the modern day, FOR REASONABLE PRICES, and the more older titles there are to even access, the better it is for everybody. ESPECIALLY when there are whole genres of games being ignored now, and whole series' like the Simpsons who are pretty much out of action when it comes to game tie-ins...
SSX Tricky and X-Men Legends please. Sad they're not playable!
I'd love to have it, but it seems like it would be a rights nightmare. The original developer was bought by activision and the publisher was ea.
I would like this, but also can we get RoadRage?
I want Quake series
I love the back compat aspect of Xbox but with all the talk about playing multiple generations on Xbox it would be great to see new games added to back compat especially since the last games added were in mid 2019.
Lets be honest though im not holding out any hopes of them adding anything new.
I bought an original Xbox last year for the games that still aren't backwards compatible that I want to play, and picked this one up for almost nothing. Still haven't played it, but it seems like a ton of fun.
I've been watching the backward compatible list yearly for Simpsons Hit & Run since my brother got xbox one circa 2016-ish.
Was playing it with my nieces on my gamecube as recently as 2018. Then my gamecube died
I'd love it but I can't see it happening Apu was removed from the cartoon so they'd have to remove him from the game aswell
Would LOVE to see this game go BC and would also love to see Microsoft get rolling again with the BC program again! There’s still a ton that can be had!!
You know these hamburgers are quite similar to the ones they have at Krusty Burger.
Love this game, I’d definitely buy it on Series X.
