Topic: Very simple question about Remnant 2 on Gamepass

I cannot seem to find a specific answer anywhere...
I have gamepass ultimate and usually play on my PC (I also have an XBOX series X)
I downloaded Remnant 2 on my PC from gamepass.
My stepson has a XBOX series X but does NOT have gamepass.. (doesn't have a lot of money)
I want to buy him this game (Remnant 2) for Christmas so we can play Coop. ( I have validated this is possible to crossplay "if" you buy from MS store or use gamepass)
Here is my question... If I buy the standard game via the MS Store for him, and he installs on his XBOX, will we be able to play online? I read something online about "online multiplay" needs to be active?
If I buy a couple monthes of gamepass ultimate for him, he should be able to install it and play, but if he has to cancel the subscription, will he lose access to the game? (I assume he will) ...See very simple question for someone who knows how this works... thanks in advance for any feedback

@Iam74Gibson As @Balta666 said, Xbox requires you to pay for online multiplayer in everything except for free-to-play games like Fortnite. You used to have to pay for something called Xbox Live Gold for this, but it's now called Xbox Game Pass Core.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members get online multiplayer included in their subscription as well.

So, you've got two choices here - either buy the game separately and then also get him a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Core, or pick up an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription (there's a 14-day trial for this right now) but know that when the subscription runs out, he'll also lose access to Remnant 2.

The other thing to keep in mind is that cross-play between Xbox and PC can apparently be a bit buggy in Remnant 2 and ONLY works between the PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass versions. Have a look at the comments in this Reddit thread about it:
