Never played Gears of War. Is it good?

I have not played a Final Fantasy game since Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube. I may have to give this a shot once my back log clears up a bit.

I will be playing Assassin's Creed Unity on my shiny new Xbox One that I won. Along with sessions of The Evil Within (PS4) and Uncharted 2 (PS3). I really want to finish the Uncharted Trilogy before Uncharted 4 is released.
