Re: Talking Point: Five Years Later, What Do You Think Of Gears 5 In 2024?

Replayed it fairly recently with a friend. The game is full of bugs. The game is not properly balanced. Sometimes we had to restart the whole chapter because higher difficulties severely lack ammo refills between tough fights.

Storytelling was negatively impacted by the open world, the pacing is simply broken. Story-wise, the game should be just act 2, but better paced.

Half of the game (and Hivebusters especially) is just a walking simulator. The game is so much exposition (no one asked for). Not to mention Hivebusters are just a prequel to a multiplayer mode and you don't get to play the most fun part in the DLC bit.

The late game decision was forced, unimpactful, wasted.

The core gameplay is still good. Inclusion of stealth was interesting. Certail Jack abilities made the sandbox more fun. But it is the worst Gears game out there. 4 was much more fun, much better.

@BlueOcean Coming from Switch to Xbox, UI was and still is biggest pain for me. Thanks to Game Pass, I regularly install and remove games, but I don't know how to make a section on main dashboard to show all currently installed titles other than managing each of them manually. I once spend couple of minutes looking for button that will get me to gallery with all my captures and honestly I can't now remember where it was.

Switch might not have the customisation options but I personally don't miss them as everything is neatly organised and simple to reach. With Xbox, it feels like a constant struggle.
