Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite Xbox Live Memory?

XsERTzX

Halo 2 for me! I remember buying Live when it came with a year subscription and a headset, and being on constantly with my friends. Made a lot of friends too from all over the world, it was never hard to find a game full of people I knew. Not to mention eeeeeveryone was on the headset and chatting, and while of course there were a-holes on there it seemed like a much more "kind" community of people at that time.

Re: Aaron Greenberg Says It'll Be A 'Special Year' For Xbox At Gamescom 2023

XsERTzX

@BAMozzy as speculative as your post is I appreciate it, because all of those dreams could come true and I expect are being worked on despite the legal troubles with the ABK purchase right now.

You know ABK has both Xbox and Ps5 versions in mind right now... But depending on the outcome we'll see how things play out. I doubt M$ will prevent any game from coming out on Ps5 right away if the aquisition goes through. If the devs have put in the work they aren't just going to shut them down outright and deprive them (and themselves, mind you) of that revenue.

Xbox has a somewhat unique position in the market that way. They can release wherever they want. Sony however... That would be blasphemy and a blemish on their brand if they released on other platforms. But I still believe that is also their weakness.

As time goes on and Microsoft continues to be open to releasing games on other platforms, I think it will be interesting how consoles handle that view going forward. Exclusives are awesome, they take advantage of the hardware and scream "we are better!" but at the same time, M$ has shown the ability to scale releases dependent on platform. Yeah I'm not going to get the full COD game on a switch... And I expect that... But if they could deliver something similar, or at least a very fun alternative for that audience given the hardware at hand, there are still a lot of experiences that could be had.

Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

XsERTzX

Thank you for that! I legitimately didn't understand the hate for 30fps but your explanation helped me. In the situation you are explaining I do get it. And as a result I need to re-examine my own views on framerates. I remember The Blair Witch Project as a kid and the shaky camera just reminded me of home videos... But now I know it's a bit more than that. They can be disorienting and consfusing.

Again, I always appreciate a new viewpoint and opinion. I want that to be a thing in our Xbox community

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

@Dm9982 @MayaMousavi I wouldn't worry! If Todd is playing primarily on Series S as he says, the game will be everything we hoped for.

Skyrim was "it", despite its numerous glitches. I do feel like we won't have to deal with as many problems since iD helped, as well as M$ internal studios with tech problems... But they should have been doing this since Sony did it. Naughty Dog has done this with Guerilla Games numerous times, and has delivered such amazing games as a result.

Frustrating... The Bethesda aquisition happened some time ago. Especially considering this ***** show of an acquisition of Activision/Blizzard which is still ongoing...

But regardless... @DM9982: You're right! Look at Rogue Squadron II. That game came out 2001 on GameCube... But aside from Battlefront II I can't think of a game that comes close to encompassing the Star Wars "feel". And it still holds up today on a decent 480p widescreen display.

It is on one hand dishearteaning to know how many IP's Microsoft sits on... But it also exciting to know they are working on those IP's. They aren't ready to show, mind you... But keep that hope alive. Xbox is slow to wake, but is a maelstrom when they have something to show off.

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

I know it seems bleak for us series x owners... But it will happen. M$ Knows we spent the extra money. That's why Phil said he is confident in the hardware just recently. No "refresh" console on the horizon.

He knows what these consoles can do with the new CPU and SSD combo. Starfield is a good example actually... PC's "need" a SSD now for this game. First time I can think of that happening in the PC space. Because it would be a "sub-par" experience without.

Hopefully this is what we need in the console space. We know we can do better. Let's see what we can do

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

@cburg 100%. And that's the end of the argument folks. You want 60-120fps Starfield? Spend the money for the PC of your dreams. I'll buy it on my Xbox, thank you very much. And yes, I will probably buy it again 5 yrs down the road for a PC I have built. But right now?! I'm so stoked

But I will experience the same game you did. When you did. So I don't feel as though I am missing out

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

@Scirius You're right in a way. CPU isn't the bottleneck anymore. We have a Ryzen 3700x under the hood. I would say 80% or so of gamers on PC do not have even close to the equivelant to that processor. It's too expensive and just out of reach for most people building a new(er) PC.

Grapics-wise we're dealing with a 6700XT or 2070 Super. Again, we haven't even touched what these new consoles can do. But when we do? PC's will be far beyond consoles. And that's OK! That's the way things go with tech.

For me? I want to play on my couch. I don't want to deal with driver issues preventing me playing my game. I don't want other hardware issues preventing me from playing my game. I want the simplicity of a console. Plug in, play, and enjoy. Is that so hard to understand?!

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

@Dm9982 @Echtzeit Only game with ray tracing at 60 I know of is Metro: Exodus. And it didn't really impress me visually unfortunately. There were times the game was gorgeous... But I can't say I noticed any ray-traced elements in the game aside from some very obviously staged scenes where ray tracing looked good across the (murky-ass) water. And we have to remember, this game released on Xbone and Ps4... Ray tracing should be a no brainer for last gen titles being enhanced.

And Zoid! I agree with everything you say aside from some small technical things. Movies in NA run at 24fps, UK usually 30fps. Doesn't really change your argument though. You're 100% right, and gamers just haven't grown up enough to understand what we went through bud. Cheers.

Re: God Of War: Ragnarök Dev Chimes In On Starfield's 30FPS Xbox Limit

XsERTzX

@BBB I don't want to stir the pot, but what does 30fps vs 60fps have to do with accessability issues? Legible writing is not the problem. Framerate is not the problem here.

I have never seen complaints in the last 30 years from gamers with regards to framerates being a limiting factor in being able to enjoy a game.

Primarily it was accessability in control of the game. And to be honest Microsoft has done more for that community than any other in my opinion, with their controller option based entirely on accessibility on the M$ store.

Most games now have colour blind options, sound based options, etc. So now, at least usually... It is control based issues.

But this is the first I've heard 30fps vs 60fps affects certain people with disabilities in sight. I am happy to be corrected... Don't get me wrong. I legitimately do not know of any disability that 30fps hurts.

Aside from PC "afficianados" who claim more frames means a better game. Which is B$. I don't see an argument here. They enjoy movies just fine, and guess what? They still very much adhere to 24fps - 30fps depending where you are in the world. Weird, right?

If you can educate me, please do! But be nice. These are things I am ignorant to. I would like to learn more.

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

XsERTzX

Most people don't know what they're talking about unfortunately. It's useless to argue with them. You can't teach someone who chooses to be ignorant about something because it benefits their argument. And other ignorant people end up agreeing with them because it makes them happy to read.

I've been gaming for close to 30 years and most of the ignorant comments are from people that don't know the tech inside a console or PC. They just got spoiled with last gen titles running at a smooth 60fps for the first few yrs of the Series consoles lifetime. Same thing happened with the original Xbox. Bunch of Ps2 games released on Xbox that were 60fps, higher resolution, or had volumetric fog/grass thanks to the hardware in the OG Xbox.

When more games really push the Series consoles hardware we'll see a lot more 30fps only games. Then we will see how the ignorant population reacts. But we all know how that'll go... They will jump ship back to PC because FRAMES BRO. sigh

Re: Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Is Reportedly Coming To Xbox After All

XsERTzX

@hypnotoad Absolutely. I will never forget Ocelot's cutscenes, or the fight with "The End". So many clear memories of this game even though I played it through so long ago. Also the first MGS that made me really get invested in the love interest, in a noir storytelling kind of way. Here's hoping.

Re: Halo Infinite Season 4 Adds Infection Mode This June

XsERTzX

@BobCoffee I do agree. I feel I got a bit too wordy with what I want, but you hit the nail on the head. I want more methodical multi.

Original Halo and Halo 2, even pushing forward to Halo 3 and Reach... They had a pace of play that allowed "amateurs" to still hold their own when they had a team in play.

What I mean by that is a team of 4, communicating and able to disable a higher level team with communication alone.

That isn't the case now. A high level team will destroy me and my friends. I'm not salty about it... I know they are better! But I want the fun of playing the game without highly competitive pro players burying me and my friends every other game.

Halo 2 multi was the peak for me. I wasn't good at the game. I was the hanger-on in the group... But I felt like I did contribute to their success. That doesn't exist anymore.

I'm anti-social. I don't like talking to people. If you are nice? I will throw on the headset. But that is g'damn rare. Back in 2004 everyone had a headset and wanted to talk. Nowadays its people who have the best come-backs. The best come-backs win. I am not in that demographic. So I will remain silent.

Re: Halo Infinite Season 4 Adds Infection Mode This June

XsERTzX

While cool to add a game mode I love... They still haven't fixed Halo 2 remastered in the MCC on either Series X or Series S. It is embarrassingly slow, multiple frame drops in a game that is from fu***ng 2014. How many times do we have to complain?!

I feel I've been pretty nice about it. Noting it in any posts made on reddit hoping the devs would see it. But not anymore. It's embarrassing. Brand new hardware that can chew through frames and Halo 2 Remastered is STILL a fu**ing mess?!

I'm losing faith. I would many times before stand behind 343 back when Halo 4 was released. I loved Halo 4. Since then it has been a disaster and I cannot condone anything they have done story-wise or gameplay-wise since. I'm legitimately sad at what Halo has become.

It was the killer app when Xbox launched in Nov. 01. It is what made people buy an Xbox. It's peak was Halo 3 in 2007. Reach was the perfect combination of all the Halo's, and appropriately was Bungie's swansong for the series.

Halo 4 was a good first effort, but unfortunately 343 has dropped the ball since. They lost the narrative. Nothing is subtle anymore like Bungie was so good at storytelling-wise.

Bungie never needed to directly tell you what was happening... You knew from cinematics and subtle storytelling. 343 shoves it in your face like you are a lower functioning human that needs to understand Cortana was a love interest that was lost, then replaced...?!

Aside from a full reboot I'm not sure how Halo could recover.

Re: We're 'Probably' Getting Mid-Gen Xbox & PlayStation Consoles, Says Take-Two CEO

XsERTzX

Have to agree with most of the people on here... I feel like with the recent hardware shortages it would be a really shi*** thing if MS and Sony decided to release a "mid-gen" upgrade to consoles that still haven't had a game come even close to their potential.

I mean I was only able to get a Series X late last year from retail, didn't want an overpriced used console with no warranty... And now that I JUST GOT the damn thing they want to release a better one?! I won't buy it. Not unless it's the final years of this console gen and the updated console is cheap as f*** used. Even then, I may just wait for the next gen depending on how the timelines play out for these rumoured releases.

The Ps5 has shown to be extremely competitive with the Series X despite slightlly lower specs on paper, and the Series S... While a bit underpowered in the GPU aspect, can keep lower resolutions solid and still deliver a next gen experience with its far faster CPU and SSD combo.

When games leave behind the XB One and Ps4 gen, we will see what these new consoles can really do. The lowest common denominator will be raised significantly in many areas technologically.

Until then? The money making machine of having the newest shiniest toy doesn't appeal to me. Hell, I JUST upgraded to a decent 4K TV for my Series X. Aside from a patched up Cyberpunk 2077 and Gears 5 SX upgrade, I haven't seen anything software-wise that blows me away.

Take advantage of the current power of consoles to their potential, then show me why I should do a mid-gen upgrade. You give me enough reasons? I might be tempted. But until then, loving my Series X and at the same time frustrated that its hardware hasn't been fully exploited.

Re: Starship Troopers: Extermination Dev 'Aware Of The Demand' For Xbox Version

XsERTzX

@CaptainCluck so true. I didn't appreciate it when I was younger as it DID seem to be just a stupid sci-fi romp at the time. I really didn't know any better. But watching it as an adult hits very different. The parody aspect went right over my head as a kid, but it is now one of my favourite sci-fi movies. I really hope this comes out on consoles, it looks like an absolute blast... Not to mention the devs very much seem to be catering to the parody aspect and campy "feel" of the movie. Fingers crossed.
