Never understood why folks preload a week in advance. I get it when someone has a slow connection speed but for others, couldn't you do it the day before and use the storage for something else you can play in the meantime?
@Ricky-Spanish apparently there's an option to turn off the stop motion and let it run 'normal'. You can also turn off the fights completely which feels a bit like they aren't really needed.
Looking forward to this though as the setting and mood is right up my street.
Looking forward to this one. Not 100% sold on the stop motion gameplay but cutscenes look lovely with it. It's nice they let you turn it off though and choice is always welcome.
To be clear, this isn't me fanboying (as you have said in the past) or attacking you, just a clarity that your comment it was shipped units isn't accurate.
Have a good weekend gaming. I'm finally gonna get round to cyberpunk i think.
Half expecting phil to rock up at the rumoured playstation showcase (or whatever they call it) in Feb to announce the upcoming releases for PS5. All of these ports weren't developed over night. They've been ticking along all the time folks argue that it's only 4 games.
Just for folks skimming the article, DF don't recommend the 120fps mode on any machine due to juddering.
'The problem here is that the game does not play nicely with frame-rates that fail to lock to 30, 60 or 120fps. Anything in between presents with judder regardless of whether you have VRR enabled or not. It's just an issue with how this game seems to work.'.
Just seems to be something that can hopefully be patched out.
No worries man. Only tv's that do 120fps can hit 40 (don't ask me why) so the best thing I could advise is Google your tv model and it should tell you.
If your tv isn't compatible it usually doesn't even offer the option in the game, I think at least.
@Kaloudz 40fps genuinely does feel like a huge bump over 30. If you do a quick Google for 40fps and digital foundry they explain it far better than I could.
In simplest terms you get an experience that feels a lot smother than 30 but doesn't need to cut back on the graphics side of things like a 60fps does.
The caveat being you need a TV capable of displaying in that mode. I have a C1 LG oled and it's a mode I use anytime it's available. Really does make a hefty difference over 30fps.
Edit: here you go. Apologies to any xbox folks offended that it's in relation to ratchet and clank, it was one of the first to do it and therefore gets a good explanation for it.
@SMJ It would be ironic if the additional revenue from xbox game purchases, that cost them zero to develop, meant that PS didn't have to go multiplatform with their own games.
I said this elsewhere but at the end of it all, MS will still make money and therefore games. With the new approach we all get more games to play, regardless of where you choose to play them. Which is the reason we are all loitering around sites like this, we all like playing games.
@fatpunkslim i think it's fair to say there was no compromise. It's a Disney ip as you say, so disney would need to be involved in the contract change to facilitate a compromise.
That wasn't a tease, genuine question. How did they change the contract if it was already agreed?
@fatpunkslim I mean this would be a good tactic if you ignore the fact it's an older game being ported and a brand new game, Indiana jones, is releasing on PS within 6 months of launching.
I kinda think that they won't be holding them for years anymore.
@themightyant you know, that's actually an angle that fits with the multiplatform approach also. A premium machine aimed at the loyal fanbase were you know sales won't hit super high numbers, but in the scheme of things, does enough numbers while gaps are filled with sales on other platforms/xbox anywhere.
@IOI I am interested to see what the innovations are they come up with for the box in development. My only concern is they may push a streaming only machine. It would tick all the 'revolutionary' boxes they mention and cut down on hardware costs, but streaming is just so hit and miss. It's not for me personally but I know some folks in here and other sites are fine with it. Outside the US, the infrastucture just isn't where it needs to be for everyone to get the benefit of it.
In terms of earnings, MS just had 6 billion wiped off its share price thanks to the AI app from China, so no doubt there's a few conversations going on around that.
Its a weird time for all console makers at the minute so it will be interesting to see where they go next. Thats not even taking into account if steam bring a box out as rumours suggest.
If they put Steam on the next xbox or PS (I'd lean more towards xbox for it but both systems have similar hardware) it's a massive gamble. Mainly as it's opening up another storefront that cuts out MS's/PS's own. Games on steam can be picked up a whole lot cheaper than on MS or PS stores. Plus you could buy the game outside the ecosystem and just cut them out entirely.
It would be great for us gamers but, on a business front, its just cutting off a revenue stream.
Series S is a great little console. Especially if you travel a lot due to its small compact design. I do kinda think they shouldn't be as stringent on the feature parity but there's no reason to drop it completely.
@themightyant oh I completely agree that there is valuable information in the numbers, and they can tell you exactly what strategy a company chose and why.
It was more the throwing around of statements (such as the one from the person above), where people make random claims or attempt to use things they don't understand as a yard stick that begins to irk. Don't get me wrong, there's folks on both side of the fence doing it. I never thought id miss the arguments over a 2fps advantage but here we are.
@Millionski dooming and glooming? Lost me on that. I'm only repeating things that have been said by those people you listed and giving an opinion on where I think its heading. What's that got to do with me enjoying games?
I never said they didn't say they werent releasing a console. I literally said I want them to release one.
If you took my comment about folks becoming accountants personal then that's on you. It was just my observation.
I said this on another site but do you remember when folks used to argue over frame rates, resolutions and review scores. I much prefer that over this new trend of celebrating profits.
All these people who shout about revenue were likely the ones telling PS players their console was doomed when series X said it had 12 teraflops and PS5 had less. Now they've gone from gaming enthusiasts to armchair accountants.
MS need to stay in the hardware game as it makes both sides better themselves and, ultimately, that benefits us gamers. More so the gamers who pick games over brand loyalty.
Sadly though, if you replace the word 'platform' in that interview with 'publisher', I think you get the truth where Xbox is heading.
@MrCarlos46 all of them, apparently. Timed or day one, it's clear they are now all going. Phil was asked directly in another interview if he can confirm Starfield will stay put on Xbox. His answer was simply 'no'. He then reiterated that he isn't locking games to the platform.
I think xbox will continue. I hope so anyway. Competition breeds innovation. Regardless of which platform folks choose, we need the other to push them to be better.
@Millionski to be fair, and this sadly applies to 99% of modern games, you are better holding off from day 1 and waiting for the inevitable patches to fix/improve them.
@Kaloudz again though, the article literally confirms its units sold in 2024. That's the part I was originally commenting on. I'm just not sure where you are getting your weighted confirmation from. Happy to hold my hands up of you can point me to confirmation of it. Otherwise it's pretty clearly labelled why things are in that list, units sold in 2024.
@Kaloudz I mean, the article says 'Units Sold: "Top-selling content across Xbox and Microsoft stores."' In 2024. Im not sure why you think it's weighted.
@Kaloudz see my response above. I still stand by the fact that a game selling less than 1.5 mill across 3 platforms shouldn't be in any top sellers list for a platform. I do get the gamepass factor comes into play here though.
@Cakefish either of those options paints a bleak outlook on the sales front considering it sold less than 1.5 million across all platforms. It shouldn't be in the top 10 of anything full stop, let alome at number 4, as that means the others below sold even less on the console.
If they were on gamepass, like Indy say, it makes complete sense. But there's some big names in there that aren't.
The comments in every article of late really just devolves into people telling each other xbox is doing awesome (which it clearly isn't looking at sales data and that it was reported the whole division nearly got wrapped up) or people saying Sony have nothing to worry about (despite it sinking millions into games that will never see daylight, except one that only saw it for a week).
Can we not just all be grateful that we are still getting some good games to play, regardless of where you choose to play them, and just enjoy them.
