@CoolDadTxate response, I know. But many Xbox discs starting from Xbox One already have unique identifiers on them, since a push towards digital was Microsoft's plan for that console to begin with. They might be the only manufacturer in the industry that could offer this type of service for that reason alone.

As for the digital licenses, it's reported they won't be permanent transfers. Whoever has access to the disc can add the license from their profile and remove it from yours. If they stole your disc then it hardly matters that they stole your license too, they already stole from you!

The point being, if you want to keep hold of your digital license, then you'll still need to keep hold of your disc.

How are people calling this the worst possible outcome when a different reality could have seen all these studios get closed down entirely?

@GuyinPA75 the discs will never stop working. All this is doing is allowing you to keep your physical discs and still play them digitally.

And I doubt they'd even be putting work into this program if their next step was to abolish discs altogether.

MS need to hurry up and officially announce these plans, will do them a world of positive PR given Sony's recent stance on physical media and preservation, which to be fair has always left a lot to be desired.

All for seeing improvements, as long as they aren't encouraged to scrap it entirely. Nothing I hate more than having to buy a relatively unknown game blindly on my PS4 or Switch because for some stupid reason they don't allow customers to share their experience for others.

Amazing to me that the thing people seem to care about most is the single thing that has literally no impact on their enjoyment. In fact, for multiplayer games it will likely hurt their experience in the long run. People don't think beyond the first page.

Nintendo and Sony never used to allow crossplay, by their logic Xbox should have just followed the status quo and let the industry be worse off for it. The gatekeeping by fanboys is unbelievably cringe. I love my Xbox, but I want what's best for the industry overall, not what makes Xbox fans feel fuzzy inside.

I was hoping for something new, maybe some Burnout style takedown races or maybe even introducing different vehicles, sea, air? Hell, I'd even take just some motorcycles..

I played like two hours on game pass and it just felt like what I've already played hundreds of hours of. Why is AAA so afraid to innovate? This is your sixth spin off of a major franchise, do something surprising, or at the very least interesting ffs.

I can't keep playing the same game over and over it's nuts.

I know a scary amount of people are happy to pay for stuff they don't end up owning, but I'd be happy just with a family plan that allowed me to share games I've actually bought with my family. I actually get the idea of sharing access to a game with multiple people on a single subscription being a friction point for publishers.

Doesn't need any of that, it just needs an emulator and a ripped backup of your game disc. I play with others online from my Steam Deck.

I wish they always stuck with their project names, those were almost always better than the retail names.

MS has no interest in selling to a niche audience, they've proven that with their first-party games going multi-plat in the first place.
