Re: Halo's Legendary Composer Marty O'Donnell Announces Political Career Switch

SlimInBlue

Y'know, I'm gonna regret commenting here, but here goes. These comments are really showing people's true colors (to some extent), especially with the amount of comments that have been removed. I won't call anyone out, especially since quite a few people here are people I've had pleasant interactions with here or more likely on Nintendo Life, but these comments have been awful to read for the most part. This is absolutely an important discussion to have, but I don't think it's a conversation to have to this extent on a gaming news website. Sure, you can't avoid it when reporting on a political campaign like this, but do we NEED to discuss here so heavily why the state of US politics is at an all time low? Yeah, we're in a pretty bad spot over here, we've had some of the worst presidents of all time (not to say Trump or Biden are the worst, we've still had people like Nixon and Jackson after all), and there are a ton of horrible politicians on every area of the political compass, but again, this is a gaming news website. These are discussions for different places online or, if you want a chance at actually civil discussion, the real world. Me personally, I do in fact have my own political takes, but I'm going to refrain from giving any of them so as to not continue to drive this discussion here. I personally think Marty's making a bad choice here, but that's not because of his party or beliefs necessarily, it's because I think being a politician is one of the worst career options out there.
There you go. There's my "take" on this. Marty's a bit silly for willingly choosing to become a politician, but we're even more silly discussing politics in this way on a gaming news site. I know there's a low chance someone will actually see my comment and actually move this discussion to a different place, but I can at least hope someone agrees with me. As for me, I'm not going to be responding to any replies because this article is a bit of a wasteland and I don't plan to encourage anyone to make it worse.

Re: Review: Persona 3 Reload - A Fantastic Remake Of The RPG Classic Vorpal Blades Its Way Onto Xbox Game Pass

SlimInBlue

@Romans12 To be fair, the female protagonist added a LOT to Portable. A ton of brand new music, new Social Links including brand new characters entirely and Links with male party members (a luxury that the male protag never had and only kinda has now with the Link Episodes), and for being a silent protagonist was completely different from the male protag in terms of personality. A comparison the Persona fandom is that the male protag is depressed and acts very depressed, while the female protag is absolutely also depressed but hides it by acting happy to a fault at points. They’re different characters and different experiences of the same game, so it’s reasonable to be annoyed at the lack of the option at least on repeat playthroughs.

Otherwise, very happy to see this game so so well. P3 is great and has potential to be the definitive Persona experience, but Portable was so restricted due to platform that it never had a chance and vanilla/FES were limited in other ways. This lets P3 be the best game it can be in the modern gaming landscape, and it shows with the reviews. It won’t top P4 as my favorite game of all time, but when I’m done with Reload I imagine I’ll be comfortable saying it is the definitive Persona game that everyone should play first.

Re: Xbox Introduces New 'Indie Selects' Collection, Separate To Xbox Game Pass Lineup

@Kaloudz Just to add a bit, advertising like this for indies is infinitely more important than it is for most AAAs. Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games of all time and had it not been as popular as it was I might not have played it at all or even heard of it. Nintendo does indie specific Directs for a reason: it’s because a lot of these games wouldn’t be able to get that level of advertising/exposure otherwise. More publicity for indie projects is almost never a bad thing, with the few exceptions being the larger scale flops and the rare scam disguised as an indie game.

Re: Poll: What Is Your Xbox Game Of The Year For 2023?

SlimInBlue

I guess it doesn’t help when most of my gaming is over on the Switch…
Eh, I’ve still got some stuff to vote for.
In terms of stuff not on the list, I’m giving Guilty Gear Strive 4 points. It got me into fighting games and has continued to be my main fighting game even after trying others like Tekken 7, and it’s also quite possibly the most ridiculous game I’ve played all year and I love it. At least go listen to the music if you haven’t, people call it an album that comes with a free game for a reason.
In terms of what’s on the list, Persona 4 is my GOTY and it isn’t even close. No game has had an impact on me like Persona 4 did, and to give it anything less than 5 points here would be doing it an injustice.
Persona 3 fittingly gets 3 points, it’s a really great game like 4 but Portable specifically is a bit outdated gameplay-wise, and personally the story and characters don’t hit the heights that 4 does. Still a great game, but I’d recommend playing Persona 3 Reload in February and maybe 4 Golden now instead of 3 Portable at this point.

Re: Talking Point: What Would Convince You To Use Xbox Cloud Gaming More Often?

SlimInBlue

I actually use Xcloud a fair bit, but I also know I am 100% the exception to the rule. I just did a speed test to check and I got 400 mbps on my phone’s wifi, and it’s probably even faster on my PC since that’s a wired connection. It’s good enough internet that I can play a fighting game like Guilty Gear Strive as if I were playing natively, which is saying something. I do generally prefer playing not on cloud, especially if I’m on anything but my PC because cloud’s a bit more iffy on my phone and Series S, but it does work well and I use it a fair bit as a result. I admit that 400 mbps is far from the norm and it was only a few years ago that I had more average US internet that probably couldn’t run Xcloud that well, so it makes sense why not many would use it.

Re: Xbox Games With Gold For August 2023 Announced

SlimInBlue

It’s not perfect, but I’ve been meaning to play Blue Fire for AAAAAGES so that’s a definite grab for me. Inertial drift looks decent too, not my cup of tea since the most I’ve gotten into a racing game is Mario Kart and Forza Horizon free-roam, but looks good for those who’d be interested which I imagine is a fair few people. It ain’t a perfect month, but really I just kinda wanted a month where I did in fact actually want to claim one of the games, and Blue Fire fulfills that criteria so I’m happy. I might still pick it up on Switch later down the line since that’s my preferred platform for that kind of game, but it’ll be nice to have on Xbox.

Re: Reaction: Game Pass Core Marks The End Of Xbox's Most Influential Product

SlimInBlue

I hope we get one more half decent month of Games with Gold next month so Live goes out on a relatively good note. Maybe an indie that’s not on Game Pass or a throwback to the early days of GwG with a first party title, it’d at least be nice to have something I actually want to claim. I’ve only been subbed since I got my Series S in late 2021 but there’s been some relatively decent stuff, Portal 2 to end the 360 games was great, Yoku’s Island Express a while back was a great pinball Metroidvania, and hey I grabbed a random SpongeBob game one time because SpongeBob, so it’s not like I haven’t gotten anything out of it. I’ve definitely gotten more out of GP Ultimate than I have out of GwG, but it was at least nice having GwG on the off-chance something decent was thrown in there.
