Re: 343 Apologises for 20GB Halo Day One Patch

Probably because, in its current state, the Xbox One firmware doesn't allow for the installation of a non-playing disc. It's probably one of those things the OS designers didn't really consider because they didn't think it likely that there would be 70gb games this early in the cycle.

So I gave it a provisional 6/10 based on about 6-8 hours play. That 6 is assuming a review scale where 5 is considered average and not 7 = poor as many people like to score games.

I pre-ordered the game to get into the beta, but then didn't have any time to play said beta during the scant window us Xbox owners were allowed. I think I put about 30 minutes into it to basically go through the introduction.

So I kinda went in blind. Because I kept hearing "MMO" and "Multiplayer Only" I didn't really follow any of the previews as those aren't the types of game I enjoy. I'm a story guy at heart. Yes, I'll play a bit of MP, but I'm neither 'twitch' enough anymore, nor do I have the time to invest to get good at those games. Indeed, I fully intended to cancel m pre-order, but as the date got closer I kept hearing how great the beta was and thought, "well, it was only £40 anyway"

So with all those caveats out of the way.... I am underwhelmed. On booting it up I was impressed again with the opening vid and the game visuals are lovely. Initially I was impressed with the gunplay. I'm STILL impressed by the gunplay. But wow, is the structure (if you can call it that) of the game one that leads to boredom or what. At least, that's the overriding feeling I get. Apathy to the world, apathy to the lore and apathy to whatever quest I am supposed to be on (or not, I don't really know) to drive the gameplay forward.

Don't get me wrong, I have had some fun in some of the battles. But that's it. Also, it may be a MMO-type thing, but what is it with clearing out an area, walking away 20 meters and then finding that area repopulated with exactly the same enemies in exactly the same numbers? If it's supposed to be telling a coherent tale, then that right there pulls me out of the experience.

I'm only at level 7 so maybe there is more to come. The problem is, there isn't really enough there at the moment to make me want to look for it.

Re: Xbox One October System Update Detailed

Any idea how the DNLA works with windows 8? My XB1 can't my pc (actually, it can see it in a sense, but isn't allowed to access my pc, though I already have it set up as a Play device under settings) so do I need something like Plex Media server to get it to work?

Any help gratefully accepted. I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out for myself, but can't this time
