Nice! I didn't realize that update was already out. Guess I need to get a drive and give it a go! I'm happy to hear you can leave the progress screen to do other things and not just sit and watch a 40GB data transfer.
I was expecting this based on some dev videos I watched a month or so ago. Game just didn't really look that good. Shame as the concept sounds pretty cool.
@hydeks I can totally appreciate your point on waiting to get an X1 when there is games specifically for it. I got mine day one and have loved it. But there really hasn't been much exclusive gaming for it yet. Unfortunately I think the majority of games announced that are Xbox One of PS4 exclusive are getting 2015 release dates so far. It somewhat makes me think again that both Sony and MS rushed these consoles to market before they needed to. Look at some of the features that MS has added to the Xbox One via system updates and you have to scratch your head that they weren't there to begin with. Then the fact that some of the UI was so drastically inferior to the 360 (friends list, party management, etc) that it needed overhauled just months after release is bizarre. I'm just thinking that maybe if the consoles had released this year, some of the games we are all waiting on would be launch titles and all the multi-generation games so far would have just been previous gen and sold just as well. Anyway, that's far enough from the original topic..
@DRL I'm trying to hold off on getting Watch Dogs but the temptation to pick it up is growing more every day. I'm still annoyed at all the preference that was given to PS4 versions of the game so part of me wants to wait for a price drop just out of spite. LOL
Is it just me or is CoD Ghosts on the list every month for Xbox One? And seriously.. who doesn't already own it that would still be planning to play it? LOL
Sounds like I have no excuse left to not grab Blood Dragon.
I can fully understand why many titles are coming out cross generation right now. Let's face it, this generation isn't even 7 months old yet. When the Xbox 360 launched, the original Xbox was abandoned almost overnight. Microsoft made a big point of stating they were supporting the Xbox 360 for several more years still. Now obviously 3rd party developers can choose what platform they want to develop the game for but when you have an enormous install base of Xbox 360's vs a comparatively small number of Xbox One owners, the math dictates that they still need to sell to the 360 crowd first. In 2015 is when I would expect to really see the full transition away from cross generation titles. That gives PS4 and Xbox One a full year on the market to solidify their installation base and gives these major studios more time to really understand the hardware to fully take advantage of what these new consoles have to offer.
As it is, I will of course purchase the Xbox One version of a game that is cross generation. But I don't really mind if a company is developing for both at the same time if they do it in such a way that one version isn't getting a shoddy port of the other. It sounds like Titanfall was handled superbly and plays very well on Xbox 360 and that's a great model of how this can be handled until the switch to full time next gen development happens.
I just bought it used a month ago but will definitely be snagging the free download for some diskless gaming. I like it but I feel like I have no clue what I'm doing in it. And that along with massive heapings of death lead to feelings of despair and then I don't play it all that much.
Liking what I see in the trailer but I said the same with Homefront before taking a pass on it in the long run. Looking forward to E3 to see what real gameplay is going to look like. At least for now it's definitely on my radar.
Hmm.. I really like the TV show but looking at some of the screenshots the game looks rough. I am skeptical about how good a TV tie-in game can be but am hoping for the best.
Red Dead Redemption is the only game I have ever gotten an achievement for completing 100% of all objectives. I'd love to see it remastered for current gen while patiently waiting for the next chapter in the franchise.
If the price is about $20 I'll certainly pick these up. I played the first 2 episodes of Walking Dead and loved it. Wolf Among Us looks pretty interesting as well.
I unfortunately never have played a Splinter Cell game. Always looked good and somehow just never picked one up. From what I do know of the series, I see no reason a good movie couldn't come out.
I've been a fan of Remedy since Alan Wake. This trailer actually does a lot more to entice me than the E3 trailer from last year.. and that trailer was pretty good too. Everything I saw going on in the background was great looking. Very high hopes for this!
@Gamer83 I read that preview in Game Informer and I've seen quite a few others posted online recently. All of them are trending poorly for this game. I am firmly on the wait and see list for this after being blown away by their initial trailer release late last year.
I've been a big fan of Battlefield since BF2 on PC. I'm not so sure about this one though. I realize we haven't seen anything yet so that may sound crass to dismiss it already but hear me out. Battlefield has always been about massive scope with a ton of armed vehicles and attack helicopters and jets available to the players. Dozens of guns and upgrades galore on top of all of that. I don't see how any of that really fits into a cops v robbers style game. I understand a SWAT team may have access to some military grade gear, but presumably there will be a lot less available in terms of weapons and should really be no attack helicopters / jets. I think this should have been a totally new IP instead of latching on to the Battlefield name. Good chance it will be a fun game, not disputing that.. but at the end of the day I can't see how it will be a Battlefield game. Also.. DICE isn't making it which seems extremely odd to me.
I'll be passing on all of that. Probably going to hold off on Watchdogs for now too. I see it's getting good to great reviews.. but the latest trailers and gameplay videos show a game that is different than what I had expected. I got the impression it would be open world but be a much more cerebral experience with hacking and stealth/snooping than what appears to be a cross between GTA and Saints Row. Mainly I was disappointed to see a ton of videos where you are shooting countless police officers. Don't get me wrong, I love epic cop chases in GTA5.. I just thought this game was going to be more about a vigilante from the early videos.. and not what I seem to see recently.
I've been harping on wanting this in the comments for quite some time now.. but the lack of media support and it basically turning this drive into a one trick pony is a big disappointment. I'll definitely pick up a drive to use with the Xbox One at some point but I was really hoping for a more robust situation than this.
@Anthinator Does that format of the external drive mean you can't use the drive for anything other than Xbox One? That's kind of what they did with the 360 if you used a flash drive to store game saves, so it wouldn't surprise me. If so that would imply there will be no playing of saved media from an external drive at least at this time.
Definitely liking the sounds of the updated SmartGlass. I just picked up an Asus T100 Windows 8.1 tablet and the SmartGlass app is much nicer on Windows than Android. Looking forward to those improvements for sure!
Thanks to PureXBOX I won a code for this game over the weekend. The game is fun for a short while as you stated. After about 20 minutes though I really started to wonder if there was something more to it that I was missing.. I upped the difficulty to max and that kept my attention for a brief little while more.. but it's definitely not something I crave to play when I sit down in front of my console. Not bad.. but not great.
I think I will need to pick up Enslaved as well. I used to own Eternal Sonata and I sold it. For some reason that game would put me to sleep. It's great looking, combat was fun.. but I think the music and soft color palette just worked against me and I would literally be dozing off mid combat. No other game ever did that to me.
Tales of Vesperia was a great looking game but I found the controls during a boss fight fairly early on to be unwieldy and wound up selling that one too.
@mitcHELLspawn you're most likely right. I posted that comment after I'd watched a news report detailing all the PS4 exclusive content and the fact that they got a bit higher graphics and mentally threw my hands up just a bit. I will probably get it early... If not day one just because I know Ubisoft is committed to making amazing experiences.
I'm curious if the Xbox One will have to do some kind of format on the drive like what was required for flash drives on the Xbox 360 if you wanted to use it for game saves? The wording I supposed could just mean the Xbox has recognized that you plugged an external drive in and it's now accessible, but the cynic in my thinks it means it will require some proprietary process that makes that drive only usable when plugged in to an Xbox One.
@DRL You hit the nail right on the head. This is one of those games that will probably only get 1 good chance to 'make it' just because of the scope of what they are trying to do. If it's broken in any way at launch it's going to get crushed by a ton of other games that are not nearly as ambitious. I'm really looking forward to this but am perfectly happy to let it cook on the stove a while longer to make sure it's perfect.
This reminds me that I need to finish Far Cry 3.. shameful that I haven't already. But definitely excited for this. Loved the direction they took FPS with 3. Ubisoft is quickly becoming my favorite developer.
I agree with everyone that I'd rather have a great playing game with reasonably good graphics than a terrible game that looks stunning. But with that said I don't think the resolution issues between Xbox One and PS4 is simply jousting with e-peens as suggested by ThatGallantGent. If I were to own both consoles I'd most definitely be purchasing most game right now on the PS4 instead of the Xbox One. One console clearly performs better than the other running the same game and that can't be ignored. One of these days I plan to get a PS4 when their 1st party library has grown considerably and at that time it will be interesting to see if developers have cracked the code to get multi-platform games running equally on both or not.
As to Watch Dogs.. I was pretty excited about this game. Seeing that there is 9 versions to chose between and most of them have exclusive content only available on PS4.. I'm officially waiting. May sound petty but if the game is as good as it's hyped, there will probably be a GOTY edition around Xmas that has all the content included. And who knows.. by then maybe they have it running better than 792p as well.
Well said Ken. I couldn't agree more with your sentiment about getting caught up in the fanboy wars that happen on many other sites. I love the pic of SMB3 and the caption! So true. I'm really curious to see what all these announcements made just before E3 mean for E3 itself. I have to imagine making these changes ahead of time allows them to focus on games at the conference. I had read somewhere that these announcements if made at E3 would have probably been a solid 15-20 minutes of stage time. Doesn't sound like much and it certainly would have gotten a rise out of the crowd if done live.. but these companies have limited timeslots for their events so this clears up room for other things. And it also has me hoping that maybe there will be some big ace in the hole that nobody saw coming.. maybe a new IP that's Xbox exclusive?
@SuperKMx That's the problem. Dark Souls 2 was getting all these amazing reviews that I bought the original to get up to speed. I see the problem though.. my original post makes it sound like I picked up 2, I meant I got the original 2 weeks ago. LOL
That's alright though.. I the game is good enough that I don't feel bad about the purchase and soon enough I won't have to have a disk in the drive to play it.
@DRL Totally agree that I would not want an Xbox One without Kinect as the voice commands work great. I don't use the motion control much but have enjoyed a handful of games with Kinect integration that work great. Playing Battlefield 4 and being able to say "I need a medic" or "I need ammo" and have that point you at on the map to your teammates is awesome in comparison to bringing up a menu with options.
I think this will overall be good for the Xbox and help get it back in contention with PS4 in terms of sales.. but I think it's terrible news for future Kinect development. The real problem in my mind is the Xbox One launched and there has only been one true Kinect game so far.. Kinect Sports Rivals. Other games dabbled with some integration, but nothing to really show why Kinect should be required.
It would be really nice to hear that HBO Go and NHL Gamecenter are coming to Xbox One soon. PS4 launched with NHL Gamecenter and for a few months it was the only reason I was turning on my Xbox 360. Would be amazing to be able to snap a hockey game streaming through that while getting in a round or two of Titanfall waiting for intermission to end.
You must be kidding. I picked up Dark Souls 2 weeks ago. Never fails LOL. Guess it's time to rush back in to Gamestop and get some value from it before it's free.
I have been paying for XBL Gold for 5-6 years now and I use the service to play online. This change wouldn't affect me in the least as I would still be paying for the service regardless but it does make sense. I never understood why someone should have to pay MS money to use another service that they pay directly for.
As to the Xbox Originals.. I think that should totally be a Gold exclusive. They need to be able to make money back from those shows and Xbox Live memberships should help with that.
This looks promising. I've read most of the Sherlock Holmes stories and find them quite enjoyable. This looks a little like LA Noire in London in the late 1800's. If it plays at all like that, this is a total win!
Along with preloading digital games I'd like the ability to purchase a digital game from my PC (or phone, etc) while at work and have it downloaded and ready when I get home. I thought that was supposed to be a feature at launch but apparently I misread that somewhere. Nothing more annoying than getting home and then have to wait for a massive download to take place.
USB storage... this shouldn't be difficult in 2014...
47GB? Seriously? That's over 10% of the usable space on the XBone. Seems a bit out of control to me. Glad to read it will be running 1080p though. That may quiet the nerdrage for a few weeks at least!
I think this list is incomplete without Mother Brain from Metroid / Super Metroid. Otherwise a pretty good list!
btw... My next door neighbor had R.O.B. when the NES first came out. I don't recall the name of the game, seemed to have 'Gyro' in the title, but it was entirely complicated and unfun. Yet I was jealous to get the NES a few years later without the robot.. LMAO!
I was a bit surprised regarding the $40 price on Trials but the season pass does help explain that. The positive is that's a game I would want digitally so I can download it for $20 and tack on the additional content later. I'd guess the season pass will be $20 as well to keep it in line with the box version.
@Gamer83 I don't mean to imply that I don't play an FPS campaign as I definitely do. I'm just pointing out that most of them anymore or completely forgettable. I think that's a pretty negative trend in the industry currently as almost all FPS games are designed for the multiplayer + DLC schedule instead of solid single player experience.
@DRL I don't know if the screen tearing is really fixed or not. I never honestly noticed it much and I'll blame the fact that I'm an old gamer.
@Gamer83 I'd honestly say the lack of single player campaign is not a terrible thing regarding Titanfall as the multiplayer is the star attraction. How many FPS games ship with a campaign that we play through over the course of a weekend or so and then dive in to the multiplayer for the next few months and have no recollection at all regarding the campaign. Seriously I can't tell you offhand what the storyline of BF3 was at all now. BF4 I can recall a bit better as I played at least the initial few levels multiple times thanks to the game deleting my progress. With that said though, Respawn has given glimpses of how deep their new universe is and it is definitely a shame that there is no single player storyline to properly explore it. Honestly I think Titanfall is possibly the largest paid demo ever for a new IP and by 2015 we will be purchasing Titanfall 2 which will have all the expected features and also be available on all consoles and that will truly be the kickoff for the universe of Titanfall.
I can't wait for this game. Love the Trials games especially Evolution on 360. I am greatly disappointed to see another game released multiplatform where the Xbox One cannot deliver the resolution that the PS4 can. I know that I probably couldn't tell a difference but it certainly feels like this generation of hardware was fumbled by Microsoft. Considering how integrated that company is with the PC market it really boggles my mind that they decided to develop hardware that is overly complicated to develop for instead of going straight at the core PC architecture. Regardless of all that, I do love my Xbox One.. I just worry that long term it may not hold up as well as the PS4 will nor will it hold up as well as the 360 did during it's lifecycle.
That's pretty impressive to say the least. Although honestly I think that speaks more towards the Xbox One / PC not really receiving a game that pushes the hardware than to how good the port is to last gen. I love Titanfall on Xbone, played it a significant chunk of time this weekend in fact. But I can't help but be slight underwhelmed graphically. It really is tough to say it's significantly better looking than say Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360. I would expect by this time next year or 2016 for sure, Titanfall 2 or 3 will look beyond amazing in comparison and still run nice and smooth.
I wouldn't mind a new Rock Band game.. it's simmered down long enough now to warrant it. But then I realize that all the DLC tracks I bought for the previous generation probably don't come along for the ride. I'll need to take a bit of a wait and see approach before I truly get excited.
And Dance Central.. I know it was THE game for Kinect 1.0 but it wasn't anything I enjoyed. Regardless I would really like to see some new titles come out that fully take advantage of Kinect 2.0 and start to shut the naysayers up. The tech is pretty awesome.
Shadow Complex was far and away my favorite XBLA game. So many hours trying to get every single power up. Hours just running and gunning when I'd finished pretty much everything. Beautiful graphics and perfect controls!
Geometry Wars 1&2 absolutely! I'd even take a straight port of GW2 for the Xbone just to have it instantly available. Alas I agree that I don't think it's going to happen.
Honorable mention goes to Pinball FX2. I spent a ton of money on that game buying pretty much every table. I know they are working on a next gen version so shouldn't be too much longer. Question will be.. will we get the tables from the previous gen included if they've been purchased?

@SuperKMx That's the problem. Dark Souls 2 was getting all these amazing reviews that I bought the original to get up to speed. I see the problem though.. my original post makes it sound like I picked up 2, I meant I got the original 2 weeks ago. LOL
That's alright though.. I the game is good enough that I don't feel bad about the purchase and soon enough I won't have to have a disk in the drive to play it.
Re: Microsoft Announces Kinect-Free Xbox One
Re: Breaking Down The Wall: Entertainment Apps Go Free On Xbox Live
It would be really nice to hear that HBO Go and NHL Gamecenter are coming to Xbox One soon. PS4 launched with NHL Gamecenter and for a few months it was the only reason I was turning on my Xbox 360. Would be amazing to be able to snap a hockey game streaming through that while getting in a round or two of Titanfall waiting for intermission to end.
Re: Microsoft Extends Deals With Gold to Xbox One, Launches VIP Room
Definitely like this news!
Re: June's THREE Xbox 360 Free Games With Gold Confirmed
You must be kidding. I picked up Dark Souls 2 weeks ago. Never fails LOL. Guess it's time to rush back in to Gamestop and get some value from it before it's free.
Re: Rumour: Is Microsoft Lifting the Gold Requirement for Netflix, Hulu?
I have been paying for XBL Gold for 5-6 years now and I use the service to play online. This change wouldn't affect me in the least as I would still be paying for the service regardless but it does make sense. I never understood why someone should have to pay MS money to use another service that they pay directly for.
As to the Xbox Originals.. I think that should totally be a Gold exclusive. They need to be able to make money back from those shows and Xbox Live memberships should help with that.
Re: Sherlock Holmes Sleuths His Way to Xbox One
This looks promising. I've read most of the Sherlock Holmes stories and find them quite enjoyable. This looks a little like LA Noire in London in the late 1800's. If it plays at all like that, this is a total win!
Re: Xbox One May Update Brings More Improvements
Along with preloading digital games I'd like the ability to purchase a digital game from my PC (or phone, etc) while at work and have it downloaded and ready when I get home. I thought that was supposed to be a feature at launch but apparently I misread that somewhere. Nothing more annoying than getting home and then have to wait for a massive download to take place.
USB storage... this shouldn't be difficult in 2014...
Re: Wolfenstein: The New Order Console Requirements Detailed
47GB? Seriously? That's over 10% of the usable space on the XBone. Seems a bit out of control to me. Glad to read it will be running 1080p though. That may quiet the nerdrage for a few weeks at least!
Re: Two More Free Games Announced for May's Games With Gold
Wow.. 2 games I've never played. Good stuff here. I love Saints Row 2.. 3 looked a bit over the top but for free I'll give it a go.
Re: Habitat Reaches Funding Goals, Heads to Xbox One
That certainly looks intriguing. I'll probably check this out when it releases.
Re: Deals With Gold and Spring Sale Details Have Arrived
I wonder when Xbox One will start seeing Deals with Gold? Some good stuff for 360 this month for sure!
Re: Feature: Top 11 - Machines in Video Games
I think this list is incomplete without Mother Brain from Metroid / Super Metroid. Otherwise a pretty good list!
btw... My next door neighbor had R.O.B. when the NES first came out. I don't recall the name of the game, seemed to have 'Gyro' in the title, but it was entirely complicated and unfun. Yet I was jealous to get the NES a few years later without the robot.. LMAO!
Re: Out This Week: April 15th (North America)
I was a bit surprised regarding the $40 price on Trials but the season pass does help explain that. The positive is that's a game I would want digitally so I can download it for $20 and tack on the additional content later. I'd guess the season pass will be $20 as well to keep it in line with the box version.
Re: Review Round-Up: Titanfall (Xbox 360)
@Gamer83 I don't mean to imply that I don't play an FPS campaign as I definitely do. I'm just pointing out that most of them anymore or completely forgettable. I think that's a pretty negative trend in the industry currently as almost all FPS games are designed for the multiplayer + DLC schedule instead of solid single player experience.
Re: Review Round-Up: Titanfall (Xbox 360)
Re: Trials Fusion Receives Day-One Patch
Re: Review Round-Up: Titanfall (Xbox 360)
That's pretty impressive to say the least. Although honestly I think that speaks more towards the Xbox One / PC not really receiving a game that pushes the hardware than to how good the port is to last gen. I love Titanfall on Xbone, played it a significant chunk of time this weekend in fact. But I can't help but be slight underwhelmed graphically. It really is tough to say it's significantly better looking than say Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360. I would expect by this time next year or 2016 for sure, Titanfall 2 or 3 will look beyond amazing in comparison and still run nice and smooth.
Re: Harmonix to Bring Rock Band and Dance Central to Xbox One
I wouldn't mind a new Rock Band game.. it's simmered down long enough now to warrant it. But then I realize that all the DLC tracks I bought for the previous generation probably don't come along for the ride. I'll need to take a bit of a wait and see approach before I truly get excited.
And Dance Central.. I know it was THE game for Kinect 1.0 but it wasn't anything I enjoyed. Regardless I would really like to see some new titles come out that fully take advantage of Kinect 2.0 and start to shut the naysayers up. The tech is pretty awesome.
Re: Feature: XBLA Sequels We Want to See on Xbox One
