So after all these increases I've decided to cancel my sub (ends in December). Also I'll upgrade my laptop and start attacking my huge library (1,500+ games across PC and consoles). Only going to buy more games in deep sales. This whole situation with Xbox made me analyze all my subscriptions which led me cancelling GPU, Nintendo Switch Online, PS+, Netflix, Kindle Unlimited, YouTube Premium and a few others. Just sticking with Spotify and Prime for now.
No surprises here. Phil Rosenberg from SIE clearly stated they supported and made deals with some specific games which became timed exclusives. Among them he names games like Stray, Stellar Blade, Genshin Impact and... Black Myth. What they all have in common? They all respect sun, moon and stars birthday's to launch their games lol
Jokes aside, who cares if it was or not a timed exclusive? Xbox had a ton of games to play during this past year. We're all eating good with plenty to enjoy.
I'll be playing Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and Mafia 2 Definitive Edition. Trying to finish the trilogy of both IPs before the fourth gets released later this year.
@Elbow actually the lowest discount ever on that game is 45% on Xbox platforms (so it's the same discount from last week).
Lowest discount ever: 45% on Switch, 40% on Playstation and 60% on Steam. Source: Deku Deals
If you saw a 50% discount maybe it was a Just For You kind of deal
I've managed to finish Botany Manor (short cozy game with some cool puzzles and riddles) and Orcs Must Die! 3 (this one clicked with me in an unexpected way, highly recommended). After those two I tried Harold Halibut and the story looked promising but the pace was too slow for me, so I've dropped it
@JetmanUK really? I haven't seen your comment before But hey good to know we're on the same page. Now we wait until Phil Spencer adopt the idea and give us both the royalties lol
I've managed to beat Solar Ash last week and Evil West this week before they leave Gamepass. Then I went to No More Heroes 3 but it didn't click with me so I've dropped it and came back to beat Avowed.
Avowed for me was an 'okay' experience, the main story is superficial, the side quests are mostly fetch-quests or hunt-quests. But the combat was cool (played as mage) and the world is beautiful.
@OldGamer999 Sarah Bond already said that they're working on the new Xbox home console and Phil Spencer confirmed the Xbox handheld. The partner handheld device it's a brand new rumour. For me it's already pretty clear. What else would we need them to say right now to believe the next generation is coming?
I'm trying to beat 3 games before they leave Gamepass. I've finished Solar Ash last Wednesday, this weekend I'll try to beat Evil West and after that I'll dive into No More Heroes III
@FatGuyInLilCoat you're not part of the problem just because you don't buy many games. It's not like you're pirating a game, you just prefer playing via subscription. By the way I think I'm gonna buy Lies of P too, incredible game.
@Jark thanks for the recommendation I'm already playing W40k Boltgun and I'm surprised I'm enjoying it although I don't know nothing about the lore. I've managed to finish Tales of Arise and I'm sorry you couldn't finish it. It's a great JRPG.
I've managed to finish Tales of Arise yesterday and it was my first game of the 'Tales Of' series. I've loved the story and the combat although it's a little bit repetitive.
Now I'll have to choose what to play this weekend before Avowed comes to Gamepass.
I think they'll show something by the end of this year and release it next year.
Let's spin the roulette of generic comments of trolls today...here are the options "windows phone", "Phil's lies", "lack of exclusives", "Xbox will die". Every article on this site now we get at least one of those.
I've finished the original Final Fantasy VII for the first time (wonderful, although the last battle against Sephiroth was a tough one) and started playing Mafia.
@Ricky-Spanish I did the first time it was on GP. I really enjoyed the story, you control different people attempting to escape a dictatorial government. Every time you fail you restart with a different person but the story advances and the decisions you made before continue to have impact. I would define it as a roguelike walking simulator lol
@IOI yeah and again a completely different market and scenario. Let's not forget that Windows Phone was competing against the also enormous Apple and Google in a MS first time attempt to enter the smartphone market. Your comparison would make much more sense if MS ended Xbox after the first four years of the OG console.
@Balaam_ yeah I remember that time too. Sega was backed up by a trillion dollar company at that time and possessed some of the most lucrative IPs ever.
Oh wait, maybe I'm comparing two completely different companies and situations.
@Cakefish I'm currently playing Ni No Kuni on Switch and I'm enjoying it. It's a mix of Pokemon and JRPG with a light-hearted narrative. Also be prepared to grind a little bit to advance.
Nier Automata on the other hand it's a masterpiece for me, so you can't go wrong with neither of those two.
@TheSimulator Loving or not should be a consequence of playing the game, not only hearing someone else's opinion. By the way, have you played Redfall or just relied on others to play for you?
@AlwaysPlaying I've just finished The Quarry this week and I really enjoyed it. At first I couldn't care less about the teenagers but after a while I was pretty nervous to make decisions and avoid deaths lol Ended with 'just' 3 characters dead.
This weekend I'll be trying BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and will start another game but still have to decide.
So far out the 47 games I've finished this year, 29 were from Gamepass and 18 were bought. I can absolutely say that for me it was an amazing year for Xbox Gamepass.
I believe Sony has already started the process. First by porting to PC and the gap of time between releases are getting smaller. Then we have Sony testing the waters on Switch and I guess the next step (although it may time a while) is releasing some games on Xbox. I know the hardcore fans would hate it but investors care about more money not about fan feelings and they are the ones who call the shots
I said the awards are subjective, what's good for someone may be different for someone else. That's why a quiet night for Xbox doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad year. And I no, I'm not saying anything you implied.
That's not a problem. These awards are completely subjective. For those who really play, 2024 was a really good year for Xbox (and for Playstation and Nintendo too)
I really like Spyro, it brings me a nostalgia since I've played them back in the PS1 era.
Before someone come criticizing me because I haven't bought the Reignited trilogy, yeah I do whatever I please with my money and spent it with other games before Spyro (even though I like the series).
It's a great addition to the Game pass catalog since the competent player pay-to-actually-PLAY-games it doesn't matter if buying or renting. For the Annoying Old Gamers out there it's like "I-buy-a-lot-but-play-too-little-so-I'm-constant-mad-when-people-do-different-than-me-and-still-have-fun".
Just finished Persona 5 Tactica yesterday and loved it, although the last 3-4 hours are a little bit repetitive. Now I'll continue my journey through Ni No Kuni 1 and will try to pick another game to start.
@Nintendo4Sonic just a small addition to your comment "No need for MY subscription here". Many people will have a great time playing it now at no extra cost.
I've paused Dead Island 2 to finish Somerville and Persona 5 Tactica. So far I've already finished the first and did the 4 different endings. Now I'm playing the latter and I'm really enjoying it.
@Nintendo4Sonic completely agree! I think Sega should take all of its games out of Gamepass. Not only that, Gamepass should cease to exist. Can you imagine a game company accepting a lot of money from MS to give access to its games to more players? The important thing about a game is being bought not played! Woohoo!
@Nintendo4Sonic you see, people just complain with Gamepass without having proofs that it's destroying the industry. But that's normal just like people complained against Netflix (it didn't destroy the movie industry) and Spotify (it didn't destroy the music industry). For me that's the beauty of having options and Gamepass gave people more options. For you it's to continue the old model and that's fine, you still can do that. For me it's a sum of both ways, subscribing and buying. Other people may find appealing playing only through the cloud. More options are not bad.
Different than you, I'm very pleased with MS right now. Nintendo is doing a great job as well. I'm a little bit disappointed with Sony this generation and my PS is getting dust most part of the year.

Re: Talking Point: What Should Microsoft Call The '2027' Xbox Console & Handheld?
First of all I would establish: 1-Xbox OG/ 2-Xbox 360/ 3-Xbox One/ 4-Xbox One X|S/ 5-Xbox Series X|S
Then I would call the next generation XBOX 6 and XBOX Portable. That would keep things simple and 'match' the rival console.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 15-16)
I'm enjoying Ninja Gaiden Sigma this weekend.
I've managed to beat Solar Ash last week and Evil West this week before they leave Gamepass. Then I went to No More Heroes 3 but it didn't click with me so I've dropped it and came back to beat Avowed.
