Re: Talking Point: What Convinced You To Pick Xbox In The First Place?

ConcreteLlama

I was a Dreamcast gamer and didn't want to get a PlayStation - as a naive teenager, I felt angry that Sony "killed" the Dreamcast. I was very put off PlayStation in general by Sony fanboys - which I know is not unique to any one platform but they were the most prevalent at the time and I was quite attached to my Dreamcast! When Sega announced they were exiting the console market I saw a lot of toxic fanboys online rejoicing and it put me off Sony for about 10 years (I'm now very much a multiplatform gamer and think fanboyism is incredibly stupid).

Anyway I'd heard about a new very powerful console coming out called the Xbox and was immediately drawn to it. Halo looked pretty cool but then... Project Gotham Racing? Jet Set Radio Future??? Was this just an extension of the Dreamcast? I made it my goal to try to find enough money for the Xbox and finally managed to get one when the price dropped in the UK. Absolutely fell in love with it and to this day is probably my favourite console. I felt like Microsoft never really recaptured the OG Xbox magic and I'm not particularly happy with where Xbox is at now but that original Xbox? That was something special.

@StylesT When you got kids, taking a day off (during a normal work week when everyone else is out) is probably your only option to guarantee a "few hours" to play something.

I have kids and the only time I get to myself for single player games is before everyone wakes up. If a new game is coming out that I'm really excited about I'll take a day off to play.

That being said I bet the majority of the audience on this site is from the US who generally get very few vacation days, so they are are at a massive premium. I have enough vacation days that a day or 2 here and there doesn't make a huge difference (well, until the kids get to school age, then we gotta contend with all their holidays).
