Xbox Rolls Out New 'Change' To Help Avoid Data Loss In Forza Horizon 6

As you may be aware, some Forza Horizon 6 players have been struggling with corrupted or lost save data over the past month-and-a-bit, and to Xbox's credit, they've been working extremely hard to try and rectify the issue permanently.

It was back on June 12th that Xbox announced a new system update to address the situation, and now we've got another new "change" that aims to ensure that even if you run into data loss, it won't be as catastrophic as before.

The Forza Horizon support team says that if data loss occurs, you'll now be presented with a "conflict dialog" in which you can restore your most recent saved version from the cloud, which will minimise "situations where a full data loss could occur to a single session loss".

Here's how they describe it:

"With this change, if you experience data loss, you'll be presented with a conflict dialog the next time you load your game. To recover your progress, choose the Cloud save option, which restores your most recent saved version. This puts recovery directly in your hands, without needing to wait for our Forza Support team to roll back progress manually. It also means that situations where a full data loss could occur will now be minimized to a single session loss."

In all honesty, we thought this was how the cloud save system was supposed to work anyway, but we're not complaining - it's just nice to see Xbox and Playground Games continuing to put so much effort into fixing the issue.

The other thing you'll want to be aware of here is that a new Xbox system update is reportedly available to target the problem further — different than the one that was rolled out in mid-June — and they're suggesting you "download this update as soon as possible" as it "resolves some of the known data loss scenarios".

Here's how to download it manually if you haven't already:

  1. Make sure that your console is connected to the internet, and then press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Select Profile & system> Settings > System > Updates.
  3. Under Updates, you'll see:
    • Console update available. Select this to begin your update, or
    • No console update available. This means your console is up to date.

This isn't the end of it, either - both Xbox and Playground Games say they're continuing to investigate data loss with the "utmost priority", so we'll likely get even more updates on the situation over the coming weeks.

While it's annoying that the issue exists in the first place, we can't knock the amount of effort that's being put into resolving it, and here's hoping it makes a difference not only for Forza Horizon 6, but for all Xbox games going forward.
